This series will make you cry like every episodes. It's not just about love story, it's more about war, sacrifices,tragedy, and love for family. The story of Leon and Hilal is so beautiful from the start to finish. Every character was well played by the actors. This series is a masterpiece.
So I watched this because I saw a fmv on them being done in a comedic way. Went and watched it, found that it was a pretty heavy Turkish drama with 59 episodes. It was about war, peace, spy, and love-all written in a very nice way. Definitely strong script. Hilal and Leon are supporting characters, but they become really famous for their relationship. I personally think the writers definitely have soft spot for Leon because his character is just too well written! At first, you would think he was a mean and arrogant Greek soldier, especially since his father held a prestigious position in the military. However, we soon realized he was not so, and was quite a gentleman too. It was just because he was Greek and had been taught a different belief. [SPOILER ALERT BELOW!!!] In the beginning, Leon was interested in Hilal's elder sister, who was known as the prettiest Turkish lady in town. But that was it. Just an interest especially since Yildiz, Hilal's sister, was very eager to be with Leon, who was rich and handsome. As mentioned before, Leon was a gentleman, and when Yildiz came to him, asking him to help her because she was being forced to marry a Turkish man she didn't love, she told him that the guy had abused her. (I'm not sure if she was lying or not, but Yildiz and the man were definitely not smooth sailing. The guy liked her a lot, but was very conservative. Even before getting married, he already demanded a lot of things to her; such as not going out after their marriage, not to talk back to him, etc.) Later Leon got into a fight with Yildiz's stepbrother and the fiance, and when Leon's mother got wind of it, immediately told Leon to step back. Here, Leon told his mom that he wanted to get married to Yildiz, despite having told his mother that he didn't like Yildiz that way previously. Even telling her that he didn't give Yildiz a false hope. However, I think he said that because he couldn't see anyone being abuse in marriage. Somewhere around this time, Leon and Hilal had a few encounters which always end with her glaring or cursing him, telling him to go back to where he came from. Leon had been a truly patient person. But during these few encounters, Leon always find her either in the middle of a trouble or going to find trouble. One night, Hilal and Mehmet, a fellow patriot, fell into a trap, in which Leon caught them in a room with a bomb under a table. Hilal and Mehmet were jailed separately. It was during this time that Hilal and Leon got to know each other better and slowly admired each other. Leon kept on visiting Hilal under the pretext of giving her books or just talking to her. I'm sure he wasn't aware himself why he kept going to the jail to see her. But when he saw her telling her mom and sister that she rather die as martyr, his eyes shifted and looked at her differently. At first, Hilal was very very distrustful at Leon, even when Leon wanted to help her to convey message outside, she told him to get lost. Later Leon would bring her book, telling her that she might want to read to get rid of boredom. Slowly but surely, Hilal retracted her claws whenever Leon came to visit. They would talk and exchange views, to which they found they have similar belief and ideals about the war. Later, Hilal and Mehmet were found guilty and to be executed by hanging in public. One night before that happened, Hilal tried to suicide because she didn't want to die in public because she didn't want her family to see her die, especially her old grandmother. Leon came in time to rescue her, which then Hilal cried sorrowfully to him. It was at this moment we could see glimpse of Leon's feelings for Hilal. He did everything he could to find a way to proof that Hilal was not at fault, but ended up getting into a trap and fell into hostage. Hilal and Mehmet were let go, and the issue about Leon being held hostage in exchange for Hilal's freedom was not mentioned publicly. Later Leon was able to be rescued, and went back to work. The aura of their relationship gradually changes after that. Leon and Hilal were both extremely attracted to each other, but restrained themselves because they were fully aware of the issues underlying between them. One was Orthodox Greek, the other Turkish Muslim. One was a Greek Soldier, the other was Turkish Nationalist. Their love story was definitely one filled with passion of young lovers. Leon was definitely the one who fell first and fell harder, but Hilal's changes when she accepted the fact that she was in love with a man she called enemy was life-changing too. Their story was well-written, you can feel the enmity, the passion, the regret, and the joy. After they got together it's a whole different story. We all love a strong couple!
I started watching this series (Vatanim Sensin) a few days ago because of this exact edit. And omg I am hooked 😋. What a great series!!! I love all the Turkish series although each episode is long, I still watch till like 1am🤣.
I love them, their love is so pure and genuine, and every time I can or feel it's time, I rewatch this beautiful show. Many will say that a love like that is impossible, but nothing is actually impossible, just difficult, finding a love like that will be difficult but never impossible. As a poet once said, “there is not impossible in dreams and love”
I was obsessed with this couple!!! I remember I discovered them when they won this massive poll for best tv couple of the year and it was so bizarre to see a non-English speaking couple be on the list, but they won it! And the show had been wiped from everywhere online, but someone posted the cut of this couples storyline on TH-cam in pretty terrible quality and I watched their entire first season storyline that way - the cut of their parts alone was so long it took me ages to finish, but their chemistry was so special! I know since then good quality versions of the series have made it online, but I can’t watch Turkish series anymore, 2hrs per episode is way too much for me!

If you're looking for more wonderful Turkish dramas to watch, I can't recommend Siyah Beyaz Aşk enough. No series comes close to making me feel the way it did. Also, fantastic video as always! ❤

I don't know if you take requests, but if you do, please listen to this song and I hope it'll inspire you enough to create another masterpiece mv featuring this song because there has yet to be a decent "Rewrite the Stars" mv featuring Hileon and the song's just too perfect for their incredible love story/scenario and it would be a shame to not make use of it for our beloved couple.
It won't be the most accurate recommandations sorry : About the story itself - like not on the same sides but end up fighting (and falling) together - : an ember in the ashes (even though in the book the boy already shares somehow the girl's pov) About the enemy to lovers (aka best trope ever), I can only advise you the best I've read so far : The Cruel Prince (the tension is soooooo) (Both books are fantasy and the romance is not the main part but plots are great too)
I would suggest you read "Enemies in Love: A German POW, a Black Nurse, and an Unlikely Romance" by Alexis Clark. It is a true biographical and historical story during World War II where a black Army nurse and a German POW find love against the odds of discrimination. There is also a movie adaptation!

No , Leon didnt love Yildiz . Leon 's only love interest is Hilal. There was only some kind of flirting mixed with friendship which Leon did with Yildiz before falling in Hilal. Yildiz did have crush on Leon cause of high& easy lifestyle . Later in season 1 she falls in love with Ali Kemal and in season 2 she falls in real love with her husband Yakup. (Spoiler alert) . Some context: In an earlier scene, both Hilal and Leon exchanged words, where Leon said, due to his duty, he would have to shoot her if it as necessary and the last resort. (Since she is a rebel fighting for her country whilst he is part of the enemy as a Lieutenant in the army.) Hilal replied in that she would not hesitate to shoot him. In this scene, Hilal shot Leon in order to protect her adoptive brother, and Leon forgave her as he understood that she did it to protect her brother.

About the story itself - like not on the same sides but end up fighting (and falling) together - : an ember in the ashes (even though in the book the boy already shares somehow the girl's pov)
About the enemy to lovers (aka best trope ever), I can only advise you the best I've read so far : The Cruel Prince (the tension is soooooo)
(Both books are fantasy and the romance is not the main part but plots are great too)
I would suggest you read "Enemies in Love: A German POW, a Black Nurse, and an Unlikely Romance" by Alexis Clark. It is a true biographical and historical story during World War II where a black Army nurse and a German POW find love against the odds of discrimination. There is also a movie adaptation!

No , Leon didnt love Yildiz . Leon 's only love interest is Hilal. There was only some kind of flirting mixed with friendship which Leon did with Yildiz before falling in Hilal. Yildiz did have crush on Leon cause of high& easy lifestyle . Later in season 1 she falls in love with Ali Kemal and in season 2 she falls in real love with her husband Yakup. (Spoiler alert) . I hope this clears out

@Furi Nifira, I think He didn't. What I see here is Leon just at the stage of flirting, not at the stage of like, even love. Maybe its just came out suddenly, not from his heart, when He said He wanted to marry yildiz (when He talked to his mom).

Some context: In an earlier scene, both Hilal and Leon exchanged words, where Leon said, due to his duty, he would have to shoot her if it as necessary and the last resort. (Since she is a rebel fighting for her country whilst he is part of the enemy as a Lieutenant in the army.) Hilal replied in that she would not hesitate to shoot him.
In this scene, Hilal shot Leon in order to protect her adoptive brother, and Leon forgave her as he understood that she did it to protect her brother.
