This reminds me of when the Choctaw tribe learned of the famine in Ireland. Despite being in the midst of trying to recover from the Trail of Tears, they sent what money they could gather to Ireland to help. The starving helping the also starving.
Beautiful example.
They are honoured to this day in Ireland for their act of love and solidarity.
Heart centered/Christ centered living
I never knew, but hearing about that is so wonderful. It is a beautiful example of community on a global level, which too many Americans won't understand why it exists for anyone and that there are beliefs out there that TRULY encompass the world.
Glad you shared didn't know that story, and Aussie.
"The Christian way is Sacrifice."
In my nearly 80 years of life, you, Rev. Ed, are the first pastor of Christ's flock to put Christian service in those terms. May those words become the vision of the future of Christ's beloved Church!
I get so much from RevEd’s messages, too!❤❤❤😊
I often meet (mostly fathers) who say "I love my own kids, but not the children of other people".
I ask these people..."So then if God only had the one son, why should God love you? Whose child are you".
We are all children of God. Equal fractals of consciousness.
Seriously, those kids are the future. They're your children's contemporaries, and they'll interact with you in your life as well. A healthy childhood makes for healthier adults. Everyone should invest in that.
I cannot respect for anyone who forfeits his integrity, character and honor to disregard his earlier criticisms of Trump whom has cowardly cowered and bent the need to service his desire of power and enflience.
@@cc1k435 Totally agree. Your children's peers who are not growing in compassion (due to parental neglect and worse) will be a problem for your children and ultimately for you. When we have the opportunity, we also have an obligation to let other children know that they are seen and heard and that they matter.
I have no children. Never wanted them. I believe, wholeheartedly, that the purpose of adults--all adults--is to provide for, nurture and protect all children.
@@Thursdayschildfar2go I cannot thank you enough for sharing your wonderfully expressed reply with all of us.
When Thomas Aquinas and Augustine discussed this hierarchy of spheres of love, it was to discribe what the natural tendency of the world was, and to contrast it with the all-inclusive and unconditional love of the Christian.
True. JD thinks love must be conditional. In truth it can't be
No, he and Trump (and Musk) view it as transactional. Give me love, and I might give you some back.
Excuses. Excuses to justify applying racist and classist cruelty in order to gain support for the economic and political projects of very greedy and fearful people.
I don't know what JD actually knows or understands, but this strikes me as another one of those Christian sounding comments made to trick well meaning Christians into going along with something greedy, selfish and not at all what Jesus would actually want us to do, as well as for him to stay in Trump's good graces rather than Christ's.
Radical love and hospitality IS anot inconsistent t with the Order of Charity concept that JD Vance was explaining. One can ,
Indeed, love radically working that framework.. Just another uneducated Leftist Modernist who is making up his own Interpretations- tbe diabolical twisting of teachings of truth. SPIN!!!
Yours is a very powerful and straightforward comment for which I think you immensely.
Even in our past as selfish and unregenerate people, we were not as hateful as Maga has made this country.
For Vance, it's NOT about love--it's about holding power over everyone else and hating anyone who disagrees with him.
Well, having power over the masses is the traditional function of religion, after all.
@@tofu_golemoh I dunno, more a 'common side effect' I reckon

sad but true
Jesus said "Love God, and love your neighbor." No conditions or qualifications. Then someone asked "Well who is my neighbor?" and he said "The Samaritan who stops to help a beat up stranger on the road, that guy is loving his neighbor."
Thanks for still believing that. Against my better judgement I commented this on a facebook post about someone discussing Vance's statement and got met with antagonism and laugh reacts lol. I'm just so tried of the pathetic softening of Jesus's message in order to justify mistreating immigrants and others.
You were right to confront their error with the story of the Good Samaritan. Their reaction hurts, but your message is essential, even crucial.
I am sorry that happened. But it is typical of conservative Christian behavior.
You forgot. As yourself
Thank you for standing up for God’s love!
Many of us are reaching out to you in admiration because despite your post being met with antagonism and ridicule, you successfully carried out your task as a do-er of Jesus's Great Commission. I can picture God's loving expression watching you be the person of faith we are called to be. Imagine how many people were deeply moved by your post.
We are to love as he loved. Without restriction, without regard to time, place, race, nationality, behavior, or creed. Everyone, everywhere, from the beginning of time to the end. Especially the people we hate or despise, fear or disagree with. Amen
I draw the line at those who are actively trying to hurt and kill me and those I love, but I am not Christian.

America use to be a shining star in the world, even though some of our policies did more harm than good. But when we help the most endangered people in the world, we are at our best as human beings. I was a Firefighter/EMT. I look at it as triage, your priority is to help the ones whose lives are in immediate danger. We can help other countries in dire need, and by doing so we also help our country too. If the wealthy paid the same tax rate as me, we could do more to shelter people and give them the tools to break free of addiction and poverty. Our seniors and disabled would have an income above the poverty line. But these selfish people seem to need more super yachts and mega mansions. They wonder why their cup never feels full. And they have convinced the less wealthy it's not freedom if they can't have all they want. Thanks for stating this message perfectly.
And I thank you for taking the time and effort to write those words from which all of us may learn and benefit.
@kenswims You're welcome 🫶🙌
In the calm between incoming winter storms here in southern Oregon. Heading out with some warmth to the Homeless I find. One guy and, yes he does use drugs was visable shacking under his blankets. A couple hand warmers, warm sox, gloves and a few breakfast bars. The look of gratitude was well worth it!! Love one another as I have loved you.
As an independent conservative Christian, I noticed that a large portion of the conservative Christians get so caught up on abortion and same sex and transgender issues, they forget about all the other things that God, Jesus and the Bible say is wrong and a sin. They lost sight of the meaning of being a person of faith.
The gnat and camel, I get it
I have wondered why sexual 'sins' seem to be the christian focus, much more than judgment, gossiping, lying, etc., which have destroyed many people.
I agree. They are just hung up on those two things when the Bible lists alot more sins.
@@lonnierichter6962 And yet Jesus didn't even broach those 2 subjects...

Just stumbled upon this video. It angers me to see all the hate in this world committed in the name of some deity. But seeing a true man of God like yourself does warm my heart. We are all neighbours on this planet, and it’s time we start treating each other as such
My heart is so broken. I don't ubdersrabd hw so many people, people I know don't care about their neigboors, their family or all the people suffering in the World
"Shallow". A perfect description of J.D. Vance's entire being.
Being judgemental is not cristian.
@SimonNesgaard Opinion not judgement. Check your spelling.
@@AgnesGooch-q1tvery petty. We all understood what he meant.
@edwardcunha1629 "Shallow" was used by the Reverend in describing Vance's view of religion. So, I expanded it to include his being.
Again and again, they tie themselves in knots, seeking to find excuses for why the very wealthiest people on the planet should not be expected to pay their fare share to support those less fortunate.
Well said. I was screaming at the TV when I saw that interview. . . The devil is still a liar. Praying for JD tonight.
He needs it…don’t we all?
How comforting to know that despite your feelings toward JD in that interview, you took the time to be an intercessor in prayer for him.
I pray for JD and Trump and others in their circle everyday that they will see the TRUTH and live by the path of TRUTH. 🙏 My prayers are longer than that, but I do pray for them.
“Whatever you did to the least of these little ones, you did to me.”
Im very glad to follow this channel because it helps me avoid losing all my faith in humanity. Your ideas, Rev Ed and the ideas of so many people who comment, helps me maintain a glimmer of hope in the future of humanity. I have a fair understanding of human psychology, and I am a realist. It’s easy to wonder where the majority of humanity lies on the scale of kindness and a sense of morality and ethics. Places like this give me hope.
AND HE TALKS SO CALMLY AND HONESTLY.
Me too
"But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?" "
I really can’t see that he knows what true love is. Love is how we act towards others not just what we say. 😢
love in truth is not mental but heart based
You reap what you sow
Sometimes we reap what somebody else sows. For good or evil, we live with consequences that spill over.

Amen to that! And that light is so bright coming from you that it comforts me for hours after watching this site.
“Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections.” - Mary Baker Eddy
Love is like five loaves and two fishes… always too little until you start giving it away.
Thank you for this beautiful reminder, Rev Ed.
Love that!
It sounds like “think globally, act locally.” But we can do both because of quality charities, as God gives the means.
'Misses the point' is being charitable, but you're a charitable parson. Thanks for your videos, they've been inspirational.
There is no hate like Christian love.
Please put the word Christian in quotes. I don’t see any thin Christ- like.
We deserve your critique.

Thanks you for your words, Rev. Ed. Years ago, I was in a parking lot where a child I did not know suddenly escaped the sight of his mother and headed toward the street. I ran for the child thinking "I must save 'our' child" for, at that moment, the wayward child belonged to all who loved their neighbor. Ultimately, the child was not harmed and it made me realize that loving your neighbor must have no conditions attached, whatsoever.
Charity may start at home, but that's not where it ends
That's a lovely, and oh so true, statement. Thank you.
Apparently, Vance never read the parable of the good Samaritan.
When they show you the lack of true love of God extended to all mankind as your family. He justifies not helping others selfishly.
Jesus did say "The poor will always be with you." Need of some sort if infinite and will go on forever.
Thank you so much, Rev Ed. May you continue to be strong in the work you are called to do. May you be protected in every way from the fiery darts that are launched at you.
Since Vance claims to be a Catholic, it would be great if his Pope would say this same message.
'His Pope'?
@@Hartley_Hare not Francis.
Yes. That would be very helpful. Thrpugh his inaction, Francis is doing an awfully good impression of Pope Pius the VII.
JD Vance "missing the point" is not a "bug". It's a feature.
Here's something about love. My ex gets released from prison in 2 weeks...she's a undiagnosed bi-polar narcissists. As. Christian i love her, but that's it. She is not and never was a mother...to her own daughter, or our daughter who she drowned and still can't take full blame and still blaming me when I was at work. I have to do what is right for my son and keeping him safe...because he's very manipulable with his autism. My ex step daughter who I loved like my own blood was poisoned against me
What a sad life for those kids!

JD Vance misses the point of being a human.
Dan McClellan has a great video on this from his own take.
That said, I think that in practice we (humans) do (descriptive) love in circles like this. We're born with no awareness of anything but our own need; we distinguish between self and mama; we identify family from the outside world. Over time, the line moves out and the circle grows.
Rev. Ed is right in this: Christ calls us to stretch that circle of empathy all the way out, to capture everyone. We (Christians) should (prescriptive) love everyone as ourselves. We should try our best to take that universal perspective, and redouble our efforts when we inevitably fall short.
Beautiful TRUTH..Thanx Rev Ed...compassion, love, truth...amen.
There's also the question of the degree of need. If your child "needs" a new video game but children are starving far away, you don;t have to wait until you can provide your child the new game before helping the truly needy. His family is fine, and very few are starving in his country.
Amen. Be there for all
In the the United Kingdom there are people who like to say "charity begins at home". What they really mean is "charity ENDS at home".
I disagree. Take care of your family first. Then, help your neighbors if you are able to do so.

I AM SO WITH YOU REV....common sense love??? We give without conditions...God loves us unconditionally. .he doesn't look at our passport....
Love in any form defies common sense. That's what distinguishes it.
Yes, to what you said. God asked us to love our neighbor, that one right next to me now, that I can see, needing aid.
And, Vance left God out of the equation. All Love starts from watching God Love; and then Loving as God Loves.

Thank you for your message in this video honestly.
God be with you ☦️
Love is not a cake that you divide into portions with the largest going to those closest to you and then increasingly small slices to others. Love has no limits
Loving the other person as one loves themselves is completely in harmony with the teaching of Jesus about our actual spiritual unity with the Logos.
We are one in God and to love one another is the law of life.
They were faking caring.
We have got to get rid of these career politicians and put something in place.
"Think Globally, Act Locally"
Amen.
This is why many, including myself. That has walked away from the church. Actually, we ran.
I love the SE Asian people. Many are very kind.
That's thought provoking and challenging.
Not sure I can reach that standard but at least I now know that standard exists.
As a Girl Scout, I learned this "Law": "A Girl Scout is a friend to all and a sister to every other Girl Scout." I find this consistent with Scripture that says to share with everyone especially those of the faith, and to take care of your relatives.
This doesn't mean that strangers from other countries are last on your list of whom to love. We can take care of both immigrants and homeless veterans. (Sometimes they're the same person!). To me, this makes only two concentric circles: your relatives and fellow believers, and then everyone else.
Recently on Facebook, a right-winger accused leftists of loving immigrants instead of their fellow Americans. This had to do with mass deportations. My insides were screaming at this. I reminded him of "Who is my neighbor?" and the Parable of the Good Samaritan. I also referred to Luke 4 where Jesus reminds his neighbors in the synagogue of Nazareth of times when God helped foreigners in need instead of anyone in Israel. Then I asked the FB commenter if he, too, upon hearing that answer, would have tried to throw Jesus over a cliff.
I sit at your feet, Rev Ed .
Christian love is unconditional; Jesus Christ loved everybody. Part of taking care of my family is encouraging them to love everybody in a radical way!
amen! yes!
And to hell with those of us who don't have family!
As if love can be doled out in a controlled manner. Love can’t be a servant of security and order.
I was waiting for this so much ❤❤❤❤ thanks!!
Love the Lord Thy God with all thy heart, soul, mind and strength is where it starts after we understand that God loved us first. There is no sign of this from any of them at the moment. Family nor anything else comes before God.
Following that logic, he would have to love/care for self above ALL others. That point alone makes it easy to see that it isn't biblical.
👍
So many references in the Bible about how we should love/help the less fortunate. When Jesus said we are to love everyone I don’t recall that he added any “exceptions“.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Christian love, following the model of it's central figure, is sacrificial love. Turning the other cheek, forgiveness, reconciliation, charity...
Yes. Love is sacrificial. Anything less, is not love at all.
Love what God loves, hate what God hates.

@@revedtrevors4961 You say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’

If we have true faith then God will provide. That was the point of the story of Elijah and the widow (1 Kings 17:8-24.
The widow gave to Elijah all that see had left to eat to Elijah and was rewarded for it.
Wasn't it Augustine who said to love and do as you will? If you love, what you will is to love.
Your neighbor can be an immigrant so as Vance says he needs to take care of him, he himself affirmed it!!
Not like he cares about his neighbors
Donald Trump’s common sense does not have love as a component. He is unable to love anyone but himself.
Amen!
If then, therefore. They're masters at it.
Thanks, Rev. Ed. I've already commented on this on various other videos. I'd never heard of the theories/views of Thomas of Aquins or Augustine, but Vance's idea of love has nothing to do with love as described in the NT. The essence of Christian love is that we should love EVERYONE (i.e. as you said: everyone we meet who needs help). The danger of Vance's view, however, is that after loving your family, neighbourhood and so on there may not be enough love left for the foreigners. It also turns love into a kind of duty, which is the opposite of what Jesus meant. Christian love is unconditional, and there's no limit to it.
The fallacy of trickledown economics is trusting that the very wealthy, corporations, groups or bosses who got massive tax breaks. would be honorable enough to give back to their workers and promote philanthropy. but without the honor needed for trickledown economics to work, the money just got horded. we live in a honorless world, in which people with honor are viewed as vulnerable and to be taken advantage of. sad how far we have strayed from the path.
Charity begins at home...
That isn't charity. That's duty.
@revedtrevors4961 That is an old saying Rev. My Mother use to recite it frequently. She would say that, Charity begins at home. Some people neglect their family, but do charity work away from home. I know of a few women who had lots of kids and basically ignored them. My good friend's Mother was always at church doing charity work. Sadly, she was rarely at home. She neglected her 9 children. My friend told me that she and her siblings felt like weeds. She remarked that they raised themselves.
“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
@@williamfinch9858 Yes. We must care for our family first. Then, we can help our brothers and sisters in Christ.
This was the primary issue Jesus had with the Sadducees and the Pharisees. Yes, there were theological disagreements but those were relatively minor though some would disagree on that point. Jesus was an observant Jew. He was irritated by many things, particularly the ability of his own Apostles to "get it" but He reserved his anger at the hypocrisy and cruelty of the religious establishment toward the common Jew. Vance is a Christian Pharisee as are many in the Christian faith who use a distorted and quite frankly anti-Jesus interpretation of the Bible to justify their cruelty and indifference toward their fellow human beings. I have often wondered if these "Biblicans" truly believe in this God and Jesus stuff or deep in their minds they think this is all just a scam anyway and so anything is acceptable as long as they get what they want. Just a thought.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8

BULL!!! That is an absolutely IDIOTIC, AND FALSE statement!
The most important is to be connected to.experience and know the divinity within. Not just believe something written in a 2000+ years old book. True divine love is happening with every breath given too you. Thats the reality.

Love God first above all things. That definition of love means willing the good of the other. Acts of kindness and mercy are needed in any way you can give them. Just my thoughts, I'm no student of the Bible.

His circle is too focused on “what risks must l take and what’s in it for me.”
If JD Vance's family needed shelter in a stranger's house, would he feel this way then?
Loving in concentric circles is placing conditions on your love. The exact opposite of what Jesus taught.
I don’t think God had a priority list. All people are worthy. Everyone is someone’s love one, Even Trump.
You’re right. Pray he will turn to God.
I was talking to my wife the day before this announcement as her drunk deadbeat dad showed up at our doorstep asking for help to get clean. Part of our conversation revolved around Matthew 25, v 31 to 42. And then the next day, Vance made this comment, and i think Matthew 25 is a great argument to bring up here.
Im Canadian and ive fekt lile the American Church has died. And honestly I think the American Church needs to read Matthew 25
It’s one thing to give lip service to God, quite another to put that in practice! Love is not necessarily logical, Love is the feelings we have for each other.

We shouldn't have a two choice system - either deport OR path to citizenship! How about simply a path to 'green card' status, and thereby preserve our trade and agricultural workforce. And thereby LOVE those folks who are at the lower socioeconomic status. Yeah, lets love each other because maybe, we need each other. OK?
