Skwisgaar had home field advantage, a full warmup, and he chose what they would play. Toki was late for the audition, homeless as shit in a foreign country, and probably had a raw pigeon for breakfast and STILL kept up.
Can I just say that they perfectly nailed the look of disdain of the French aristocracy? Upturned nose, slightly pouty lips. Metalocalypse needs to come back ASAP. Sign the petition, people.
Skwisgaar is like that technical skill guitarist that practices for hours on the daily and plays everything with precision due to muscle memory... And Toki is like that Naturally gifted guitar player that isn't quite as skilled as a virtuoso like Skwisgaar, but can be lazy every day and still shred to near the same level. Perfect representation of Hard Work vs. Natural talent.
Oh yeah, theres also the fact that Toki doesnt practice often. While under this kind of pressure he was able to keep up with Skwisgaar at his level of skill. Someone pointed out awhile back that the reason Skwis let him in was because Toki is the push he needs to become better. Because if Toki actually buckled down and practice he'd outshine him in a matter of a few weeks or months.
It's also represented by the colors and visuals in the music video: -Toki is coded Blue while Skwisgaar is coded purple. Through much of the video the video has some sort of blue in frame whether it be the sky, tones and such and when Skwis starts winning the frame becomes more purple. -Also the animals they turn into can KINDA be representative of their skill, Skwis turns into a horse that is grounded and can't go much higher. -Toki turns into a bird that stays lower to the ground signifying that he can absolutely DESTROY skwis if he practiced and actually took guitar serious like Skwis does. It may be reaching a bit but it sounds cool right?

Always a huge metal head and comedy nerd. I discovered this show in 2007. It is the only series I have ever purchased. It blows me away to this day that this was ever made. It's hilarious, and seriously, mind numbingly bad ass at just about every turn. Rewatching it in 2021, I'm still floored by how every member of the band feels like a fully 3 dimensional real person while still managing to be an amalgamation of parodies and metal tropes. Also, just to state the obvious, the soundtrack is absolutely blazing.
Firstly, I love this. This is by far, my favorite part from the entire special. But I have my headphones at max, my computer sound at max, the video player's sound at max, and it's still too quiet.
This show is legitimately why I started playing guitar when I was like 6 or 7. That would also explain my love for harmonious solos and explorers. Ps Gibson really needs to start making more explorers.
They’d probably even do better with quality control of $1000+ guitars if they stopped focusing on suing the rest of the competition. The fact that some of their Epiphone models are better than their Gibsons is criminal.
Pickles: Oh you did so well. Nathan: But you blew the last part. Pickles: Oh, you were so very close. Nathan: But it all fell apart. Murderface: It is time for you to go. Skwisgarr: But before you leaves, you must understands that nobody’s ever made me plays this well. Therefore, I wants you in this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But Skwisgarr didn’t want Toki to join Dethklok because he liked him. He wanted him to join so he could use him to make himself better. Skwisgarr hates Toki. Don’t forget that.
It's a possibility, I do have the album at the moment. I love kicking on "Some Time Ago" and hearing it flip right to this duel track. Some time ago has a very nice and heavy groove to it that I love.
I don't think toki lost he just thought he did because of his self esteem. I mean if he taught himself to keep up that well in a remote village some dedication and education would've taken him to crazy levels.

Toki seems to play more on feel than technicality, and with his personality, he wouldnt be the type to try and over step skiwsgaar (especially when he has such a big ego)
Realized that it also presents a super interesting narrative that during this duel, they can pull back and play harmoniously. Feeding each others creative voice during this exchange to discover a performance cohesiveness
While I'll admit that Skwigelf is a little more innovative and his moves slightly more precise, I prefer Wartooth's style. Heavier, harsher, with more of a curving, passionate, flexible, subtle quality. You could say that Skwigelf is all offense, whereas Wartooth has mastered the counterattack.
