I tried to find a happy medium between overdriving the amp and a clean canvas for the pedal. That setting sounded great for the recording and the fact that I used a low wattage amp. I couldn't find a bad sound at any setting.
The Maxon OD808 is a tubescreamer so it's a medium to light gain OD pedal. The Dirty Little Secret is much higher gain and sounds more like an overdriven Marshall amp. Totally different.
Hard to say, it gets pretty close but you may need a touch more. Maybe throw a distortion pedal in front of it. It's called a foundation pedal so it works with other pedals very well. For a heavier sound, check out the Wampler Sovereign.
Just a note, this pedal REALLY wants the master set at least around 11:30. This pedal just kicks some serious ass. Let me break it this way, I've never had so much fun straight out the gate with a dirt box. I plan to drill the bottom plate to have easy access to the SB/SL switch. This pedal truly is a keeper.
What's the unity volume setting for this pedal? I run this pedal on 9v and when I try to achieve unity volume with bypass, the master on my pedal is set at around 2-3 o' clock. Do I have a defective pedal for having such a low volume?
joshjabrica Got a second-hand DLS III yesterday, and compared side by side with my DLS II. Tweaking gain and master knobs on both, I found DLS III more gainy with much smaller volume. Though III seems to be more versatile as some have mentioned, I don't need as much gain it provides. So far I prefer II, which seems to be more open and more dynamic.

Mine stays on the Super Bass setting. Love it for that DBII tone.

I've got a ton more reviews coming up. Look up Go Guitar Live on facebook. I just posted a pic of a batch of pedals coming up.
What do you think about the Marshall Jackhammer? Is DLS much better than that one? I need to choose between the two
Jackhammer goes a bit cleaner
If he didn't open it up, it'd be Super Lead stock. Killer pedal!
don't forget this pedal has a super lead mode and a super bass mode that has less gain, its on the back, take off cover to get to the switch
this might be the grail setup right here
I just added the "III" to the title.
So helpful 🙏🙏🙏
Correct!
Straight out of the box, super lead.

joshjabrica Hard to say. The Dr. Z amp is overly loud so any pedal is louder than normal on it. You may want to contact the manufacture.

What version is this, as I think they have three now? Sounds fucking tasty!
Turn the bass down, it’s flubbing out. Does anybody know if this pedal is as flubby and Stiff to play as it sounds?
Probably too late but ya typically you'll max the treble and mid and carve the bass back to about 9:00
Is the pedal in Super bass or Super Lead mode for your demo. Thanks!
Do you think this is the best marshall in a box in the market now? Can you recommend a better option?
heinz B I really liked it for the Marshall feel and tone. I'm sure there are tons more out there but this one was my favorite.
+heinz B weehbo makes the best
heinz B i use xotic sl drive .. for me the best plexi sound !
how is this pedal compared to a Maxon OD808?
How does it compare to an OCD?
DcsOrCity I believe this pedal sounds more amp like and has more gain.
I have got this pedal.. but don't like.
Prefer Harley Benton british sound.
