That fight was always genius. It was the same each time so you got JUST a little better each time. JUST enough for you to keep going for San's to do a dick move to piss you off. Plus you basically have to play the genocide run if you want to see the whole story, and now the whole fanbase hate you for being curious in a game that rewards curiosity.

True Thunder it gives you little secrets for doing things you wouldn’t normally do in an rpg, which is why there are so many “what happens if you go back to undyne’s house while running from undyne” or “what happens if you kill everybody but mettaton” or what “what happens if you complete the genocide run twice” kinds of videos. Plus let’s not forget that boss you could only fight if your computer was set to some day in October, referencing a sign in the game, or the boss that you can only encounter by staying in one spot in Snowdin for 2 hours. Then there’s the fun values and all of the gaster Easter eggs which I shouldn’t even have to explain by now.

Yeah, that's a good way to go about it. Fortunately I was actually able to beat him, and also was able to completely undo the genocide status (Steam never cloud saved my progress.)
