Well done bloke, big country out there. The comradery between fellow travellers, love it! Looking at heading back there from the east soon to show my wife and kids that stretch of coastline.
Bro! I was stressed watching you get back!! Impressed that you got up that sand dune .. and smart doing a u-turn from the high side on the way back and turning into the beach.. I’ve been bogged in the same manner as when you got bogged the first time !
Finally Met Billy on his Trails. Can’t wait to meet Him again on the Track somewhere out Oz. Learnt a lot about Vanning and fishing with Plastics. Billy even Hooked Me up with Couple Of hooks a plastics to give it a go for Flatheads
Hey mate, do you by chance remember how long it took you to get from the beach to the eyre highway via the track in the latter half of the video? Trying to plan a trip and just curious as to how long it took? Cheers
Hey buddy, we left the camp at 7 and I made the Hwy about 4 or 5pm, that was in convoy and stopping to swap out a few flats. Hope that helps and good luck 🤞
TL:DR, You can get through this track very quickly if you want to, every time I have gone I have always estimated 3-4 hours. I know it's a year old comment but if anyone else watching this video has the same question it might help them. I just got back 3 days ago, (Feb 2024). This video was recommended and couldn't deny the opportunity to see a delivery van punch this track. The speed in which you get through the track is completely dependant on how much you care about your vehicle. On the way to Culver it probably took near 3-4 hours to reach Mallee Camp. (the camp site within 5 minutes of the beach.) There was 2 of us, 06 Hilux and 07 Wrangler. With the intention of having the vehicles survive the track to enjoy our holiday, and taking things very cautiously. On the way back to Eyre Hwy it took 2 hours. On my own, felt comfortable going quicker, maintained a steady (not stupid) pace. Love the video though, such an amazing place to visit.
Hi. Great video. I am actually thinking of getting a VW Crafter to AWD. Are you running stock shocks etc.?. I am thinking of getting a lift kit with fox shocks if possible... have you looked into this?. Also, what size are your tires?. I am hoping to fit a pair of 35", but maybe that requires some cutting to fit?.
Hi Michael! The crafter 4Motion is an awesome van, Get one with a rear locking differential though. I run 30”s stock shocks with a lift, 35”s would be nuts but would be a lot of work if at all possible.
You can get a factory supplied Seikel lift kit and shocks for around $9K (this is from an enquiry I made last year so might be different now). Def get the Diff Lock option too. Don't think you'd do well to get a set of 35s on there though as your first gear would be way high. I had a T6 with the Seikel kit and diff locks and it was pretty good, but not into Landcruiser territory good. Ground clearance was my main issue, esp in deep sand.
Hi Billy, Just learning about some of these treks. At the end of the video upon reaching the eyre hwy. Is that the track 60ks east of Balladonia? Cheers and Gr8 video 👍😊

Very cool video Billy. Loved how you jumped in with the 4 x 4’s, that’s what it’s all about out there!
Thank you 🙏.
Thanks for sharing your great videos 👏👏
Thank you!

Would you do the Simpson Desert in this van ?
100%
Its Mallee camp BTW. Not mallen.. :) Its named after the tree that predomitate the area..
Thank you! So little information about the area
@@SaltyGypsea Not a lot of people head pout there. Mainly locals and hard core fisherman. Its on of my regular haunts.
True! Cool place if you want to be away from the crowds.
@@SaltyGypsea Here are my escapades down that way

Is the Crafter DSG or a normal automatic? All the literature have seen from VW refers to it as an 8 speed automatic.
Its DSG with a Torque converter rather than twin clutches like most other DSG’s
Do you have a dif lock on your Crafter?
No diff lock
@@SaltyGypsea same like mine

can you lock the differential on your 4motion crafter?
Hi 👋, No I didn’t get that option but it has traction control.

Factory Crafter 4motion doesn’t have a transfer case so 35’s would make the gearing way too high for off-road even if you could get them to fit.
