- The most calm and beautiful bamboo forest - such a tranquil atmosphere and possibly the highlight of the Tokyo trip!

We travelled from Enoshima to Kamakura on the Enoden Electric Railway. There are so many Japanese shrines and temples in Kamakura, and it's an easy day trip from Tokyo, just an hour by train on the Odakyu line.
We walked from Kamakura Station to Hokokuji Temple, also known as the bamboo temple, stopping off at a large temple on the way, which was really beautiful with the greenery, the red bridge and flags - I just love the colours!
Hokokuji Temple has a Japanese garden and bamboo forest - it's more of a garden than a forest really, but it was amazing to see the tall bamboo and soak up the tranquil atmosphere. I really loved it there!
The maps app I mention is Ulmon City Maps 2 Go - they're not sponsoring the video or anything, it was just really useful and I'd totally recommend it for offline maps if you're going to Tokyo (and it's free to download).

Certainly does look more peaceful than the other, more crowded, shrines I've seen!
That bamboo forest also looks really nice!
+dp24014 I really loved it there - it was probably the best thing we did! Shrines are really atmospheric if you visit them at night too. :-)
I love your videos :) It's been a lifelong dream of mine to visit Japan one day and these vids are super cool to watch!
Thanks so much! I hope you can make it there one day! :-)
Thanks 👍 for visiting a beautiful place, I am from Pakistan
It's definitely one of the most beautiful places I've been in Japan - so serene and a very happy memory!
Oh wow, this looks gorgeous *_* (added to my list of places to visit)
+MissCherryToxic Definitely recommended! It was probably the highlight of the trip :-)
This is going on my list of places to go in tokyo next year! It's so beautiful ❤
+Jack's Life Yes! You should definitely go! If you saw my previous video about Enoshima, we did them both in one day, as a daytrip out from Tokyo :-)
+Cakes with Faces I saw, I definitely will~! Enoshima looks amazing I love the caves!
I live very near this area so I recognized most of these places. It was pretty cool seeing them in your videos.
Wow, what a lovely place to live! Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Hallo.
There are some bamboo forest in Kyoto, too.
Also, there are much temples and shrines in Kyoto, too.
Which do you like Kyoto or Kamakura ?
So, Kamakura is called "Small Kyoto in Shonan" .
There are some "Small Kyoto" in Japan.
For example, Kanazawa is called "Small Kyoto in Hokuriku" .
Takayama is called "Small Kyoto in Hida" .
Hagi and Tsuwano are called "Small Kyoto in Sannin" , etc.
Probably, I think it is one of japanese culture.
If you have some interest and opportunity, I recommend you visit some another "Small Kyoto" .
I'm looking forward your next video.
Please enjoy !
I didn't know there are so many other "Small Kyoto"s! That's interesting, thank you for sharing! I like the bamboo garden in Kamakura best because it's quieter, and you can walk among the bamboo on stepping stones. It has a more peaceful atmosphere. But Kyoto is beautiful too! :-)

Thank you for comment back.
I think so too.
Kyoto is very nice.
But, Kyoto is too famous and major. So, much tourists have come.
It's not quiet.
I like quieter too.
Please enjoy !
I've been there a month ago in kamakura but not there area,I guess I've got more to explore on my next adventure back to japan hopefully early 2020
Always a reason to go back! :-) I've got lots more to explore in Kamakura too!
I see most people do endoshima first. Does the train not easily go to Kamakura?
I think it's because you come to Enoshima first, then you travel on to Kamakura from there. Some people just go to Kamakura and skip Enoshima, so do what looks interesting to you! :-)
Japan is pretty
It really is! This is still one of the best places I've been - I prefer it to the famous bamboo forest in Kyoto, it has a lot more atmosphere.
Is it as big as kyoto? Are the bamboo as tall?
So green and peaceful..
By the way i love your sunglasses so much!
+Janet Jarusdy Thanks! I got them in Harajuku
I think so too.
And I will get it !
+Indygt3 I've seen pics of it! There's so many temples & shrines in Kamakura aren't there - we just went to these ones in the video. The bamboo forest was top on my list! Have you seen the budda?
+Cakes with Faces Yes, ive been to both sites (hokokuji and buddha) :)
We'll be staying in a military hotel in Roppong soon.. Is Enoshima in Tokyo? We would love to go to Kamakura and visit the Hokokuchi Temple's Bamboo Forest. Do we have to go to Enoshima to catch the Odakyu line to Kamakura? Thank you so much for your Ulmon map tip and tips on travel in Japan. Arigato from California.
Enoshima is about an hour from Tokyo by train, so it's a great day trip. In my opinion the bamboo garden in Kamakura is better than the famous one in Kyoto - it's smaller but less crowded, so it has more atmosphere. I loved it! There are also lots of other temples in Kamakura too. To get there, buy the Kamakura Enoshima Free Pass from the Odakyu counter at Shinjuku Station. Take the Odakyu line from Shinjuku to Enoshima, then the Enoden line to Kamakura: www.odakyu.jp/english/passes/enoshima_kamakura/ It's also possible to take the JR Yokosuka line from Shinagawa to Kamakura (if you have a JR Pass it will be covered). Have a great time! (PS I love California too!)
Cakes with Faces thank you so much for your response. You have made us fans for sure. We love your informative videos.
Aww thank yous!! ☆ ~('▽^人)
ア! ... you were at Tsurugaoka-Hachmangu! ... it's so sad that the ancient ginkoo tree by the stairway is gone,... that's where Minamoto no Sanetomo was assasinated (^_^)
ahem,... " Tsurugaoka-Hachimangu " ,... it's tough typing in English! (^_^)
It's amouthful! (or handful, if you're typing...!)
This place was so developed and populated when Minamoto established their government there,... whenever I visit my two hands itch to grab a shovel and start digging in the hills (^_^)
There is a big budda close to the Hase station on the Enoden. Did you go there as well?
+Indygt3 No, that's a major attraction in Kamakura but we didn't go there. The bamboo forest was top of my list so we walked there from the station, via a major shrine in the centre (in my other Kamakura video).
How do you travel around Kamakura? We want to go to Hachimangu Shrine, Hokokuji Bamboo Garden and Daibutsu. I researched how to travel around Kamakura, the results I got is walking and taxis. I don't think we can walk all over Kamakura to reach these destinations. Sadly biking is not an option for us.
I walked everywhere from the train station - I always walk a lot, especially when I'm in Japan (sometimes up to 10 miles a day!). If that's not for you, there are buses - Japan Guide is great for directions: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2166.html
I'm flying to Japan next May and am trying to figure out which bamboo forest to go to. How long did it take you to walk through this one compared to the one in Kyoto?
The Kamakura bamboo forest is much smaller and more of a bamboo garden really. The Kyoto bamboo forest isn't very big, but it's on a larger scale. The Kyoto one is more popular and well-known. Personally I preferred the Kamakura one - you might be disappointed with the size but there were much fewer people there and I found it had a lot more atmosphere. In Kamakura you're walking on stepping stones between the bamboo, and in Kyoto you're on a fairly wide concrete path, with fences between you and the bamboo. Arashiyama is a fairly short train ride from central Kyoto, while Kamakura is more of a day trip from central Tokyo. Hope that helps!
I am having a bit of a problem with the Ulmon offline map. I am going to try to figure it out before we get to Japan in October. I'll use it for the local map to practice.
If you're not getting on with Ulmon, try Maps.me (Ulmon can be a bit tricky to find the free version too) - Maps.me is also free and offline.
Thank you.
Can you tell which type of bamboo this ..?very nice..
I don't know I'm afraid!! I'd say... magical bamboo grove bamboo :-)
Interesting image from min : 3:07
+Baron Local Thanks! I filmed so much more than was in this video because it was so beautiful! Probably the highlight of the trip for me :-)
May I ask what is the name of the music? Thank you.
+andrewsmith10000 It's called "Happiness"! It's free to download here: www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/happiness
+andrewsmith10000 The music's "Happiness" from bensound.com - it's free to download if you want to listen to it at home! :-)
Shame about the music.
Sorry!!! Finding royalty-free music for videos is hard! The bamboo forest was amazing though - still one of my fav places!
Japanese people are too polite to tell you what you look like.
