This is not an 8 speed sierra, it has a 6 speed. Here’s why: 1. The 8 speed was introduced to the 5.3L drivetrain in 2017 to the LTZ and up trims on the Silverado, and SLT and up trims on the sierra. Judging by the smaller non color screen in the instrument cluster, this is a base model sierra, not an SLT or higher 2. The 8 speed shifts into third gear around 55 mph before reaching 60, and the 6 speed trans holds second gear until 65 mph where it shifts into third, as seen in this video 3. Under full throttle to 60 mph, the 8 speed shifts and RPM’s only drop to around 4250. However the 6 speed’s rpm’s drop to around 3800 on upshifts at full throttle, as seen in this video.
Yeah, an 8 speed shouldn't drop from 6k to 4k after each shift. But then again this might be because it's a truck and it needs to be in a certain RPM for maximum torque or something idk
Have a 2009 with the four speed transmission it's an absolute slug that takes about 8-10 seconds 0-60 because first gear goes all the way to 50, goes to show that the extra gears do definitely help out
It's more down to the final drive ratio more so than the transmission ratios, if you put a low final drive you're gonna have a slug anyway, but if you put a stupidly high final drive you're not gaining anything, hence why there's a nice balance but being GM i wouldn't be suprised if they put 3.08 or 3.23 in a pickup truck 😂😂 Them gears are more beneficial for cars, put at a minimum 3.73's and they're more than adequate. But of course, too hard basket
Yea but you don't have all the issues the 8 speeds have. Got a friend with the 6.2 sierra with the 8 speed tranny. He's had the torque converter replaced twice already, counting the original one the damn thing is on its 3rd torque converter in less that 40k miles on it. It's quick as hell for a truck but good lord it is NOT reliable. The 5.3 with a 4 speed will last much longer.
@@trystanskaggs2 The 8sp's from GM were a piss poor effort to try copy the legendary and still class leading actual German made ZF 8HP transmission family. They're still beating rivals who try make do with 10sp autos which is pure idiocy.
@@ThomasFG nah man when it finally does shift it goes from 6000rpm to 3000rpm it's absolutely crushing because you're back out of the power after each shift, if you drive it slow like intended it's not bad though, idk if a final drive change could fix that huge gap between each gear

We all love the corvette and the camaro zl1 1le but like even on the new suburban they use the same little screen in the Guage cluster it's just gm trying to save a few bucks for every car. It's annoying because gm used to be really solid back in the 80s and 90s like they used to be really futuristic with like the Buick Reata and the C4 Corvette but now it's just a game for them and they just sell cars to diehard gm fans.
