    I learned more from this video than my mechanics class back in the day at my engineering college. Great work man! Inspiring!

      That's reassuring, as I am not sure if I am correct or not 😀. I ended up using a different spring rate then I had calculated, but, all my calculations were based upon a guesstimated final weight for the bike. Glad to hear it made sense to someone actually trained in engineering 👍.

      @@HooptieDoodle it totally made sense to me and I ve not come across any other builder who actually went that deep into the physics of it. Totally invested in your build series, currently on number 31! Thanks for such an awesome build series, I'll make sure to share it with my friends and wish you more TH-cam stardom and recognition! Keep it up!

    Mr HooptieDoodle, wow! 3 yrs ago I started a similar build and all that suspension info on a mono turned my brain into pudding waste. I ended up doing a resto mod which I'm finishing now. I want a bobber and can't wait to dig in. Thanks for sharing your info. I came across that dude in Phoenix as well...cool bikes and they planted the seed. Sharing is caring! Thanks again...

    man I have so been there for all of this same stuff. I wanted a longer swingarm than stock on my xs650 build, and ended up finding a klr650 swingarm I liked. started thinking about it more and decided to just swap in the klr linkage monoshock instead of the stock twin shocks (much like your goldwing). Spent way more than a week just looking at images and drawing diagrams and what not before I could even wrap my head around it, but I finally understand the mechanics of it now, and have all the parts I really need to get it going.

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude! That sounds like a neat swap. Have you gotten a swingarm yet? Can you literally bolt in the KLR one to the XS? I wish you much luck and that it is easier than you thought.

      Oh it's a fun problem to have. I think that there are probably simpler solutions than what I did. I did several videos on the build-out of mine from the swing arm conversion to the linkage fabrication if you are interested in more detail. Video #38 sums it up and shows what mine looks like finished (th-cam.com/video/h7zpcrq0xtQ/w-d-xo.html). I should also have a video coming out that is a nerdy study of different monoshock designs across a variety of manufacturers. Best of luck on your design and build!!

    Most of your videos on this build bring up one particular aggravation. I get this overwhelming urge for this to be a two-way conversation. Brother, I deeply respect how your mind works. And to all those who might be watching, if you want your child to grow up and have critical thinking skills like this guy I have a recommendation. When I was very very young my mother gave me a children's book titled "Simple Machines and how they work" it's all about levers, fulcrums, wedges, pulleys etc. That simple little childs book stirred something in me and no literature I have ever read has affected me more or benefited me more. I have solved problems with the simple truths I got from that book.

I do have a question... when reinstalling the swing arm is there a certain procedure that must be done in order to correctly align it to the frame?
