Chess is also my favorite game! Seven Wonders is what got me into other board games. Everdell looks right up my alley since I feed the wild birds and squirrels in my neighborhood with peanuts and I love nature in general. Awesome list!

My partner and I have devised a process for deciding what game to play next, which might work for you two and other gentle subscribers. We take turns choosing two games that we want to play, and the other person picks one of the two. This has really reduced our “what do you feel like playing?” conversations :-)

    • @BoardGamePerspective

Nice! I’ve used that strategy with some friends to decide what game to play, and I agree that it works well -Jodi

It's interesting how not only is there there almost no overlap in games, it seems the best games of all time may not even be liked so much by the other! I guess it's worth playing them all and figuring out what style of game(s) you like! In terms of price and/or simplicity for beginners, are there any that standout:
    Everdell Series***
    Takenoko,
    7 Wonders ***
    Onitama,
    Terraforming Mars ,
    Its a Wonderful World,
    Alien Frontiers,
    Chronicles of Crime,
    Clank in Space,
    Yinsh,
    Shadows Over Camelot,
    Roll For the Galaxy,
    Hive,
    Viscounts of West Kingdom,
    Reavers of Midgard,
    Memoir '44 (2 player game),
    Stone Age,
    Castles of Burgandy/Tuscany,
It's also interesting, many 'best-of' videos seem to usually have these somewhere:
    Gloomhaven
    Pandemic
    Barenpark
    Dwellings of Eldervale,
    Aquatica,
    Red Rising,
    The Search For Planet X
    Viticulture
    Welcome To...
    Above & Below
    Wingspan
    Miyabi
    Tiny Towns
    Concordia
    Merchant's Cove,
    Tapple ,
    Kemet
    Cartographers
    Marvel United

Man, you listed soo many good games!! For more beginners out of your list, I’d probably pick Everdell, Wingspan, Stone Age, Hive, Yinsh. But most of those are good!

New subscriber here. I’m new to the Board Game community and I kind of find it a healthy, relaxing hobby just like video games. After having some simple to learn recommendations from SungWon, I can’t help to delve more. Guess what I just started to dive into? Everdell and Root 😂 I know but it just captivates me. Never thought Board Games could be this creative, fun and memorable with friends and family. The only thing is, most of them are kind of expensive 😂 more so than video games honestly, lol. But I don’t mind. They’re worth more than their price values.
And oh, I take into heart all your top tens! 🥰👍.

I actually have not played any of the games on your top 10 lists. Memoir 44 should be absolutely my kind of game mechanic wise, but I'm really deterred by the war theme. I'm def wanting to learn more about castle of burgundy, takenoko and all the GIP games as they all look so interesting to me.

1775: Rebellion (1754 is also great)
    Atlantic Chase
Blitzkrieg!: World War Two in 20 Minutes
    Blood Rage - Tavern Edition
    Cyclades
    Dogs of War

Dwellings of Eldervale (we never played this one, but it seems awesome)

beyond the super amatuer level chess is a dead game. Its about move memorization. Even Bobby Fischer said he hated chess that it was a shallow game. Thats why he invented Fischer-random chess.

  • @PaulMazzoni
    @PaulMazzoni 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Not that I have a problem with Jodi's picks, but it's great for once to see a top 40 list unabashedly full of games that are light or have simple rule sets, but not exactly easy. Who dare says chess is not "heavy"? I really love a wide spectrum from lighter to heavier and have plenty of "family weight" games in my Top 40 as well as some heavier. I think the issue I have with one a lot of heavier games (more so than the lighter side) is the "fun factor". Plenty of games I can play and do well, but did I really have fun?!?

Justin, I've got to ask, have you played Cairn? It's the game the replace Onitama for me; simple ruleset and a touch more complex. While I adore small box games, which I'm grouping Onitama into, I feel that with evenly matched players, we're just moving pieces around not really making progress. With Cairn, not only do you have to worry about what moves you're giving to the other player, you also have to figure out how to make use of, or deny use of, the uniquely powered stones that will populate the board.

    Jesus Christ saves from sin.
    Romans 3: 23
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Hebrews 9: 27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
    Isaiah 64: 6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
    Revelation 21: 8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    Romans 5: 8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    John 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    John 14: 6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Romans 10: 9-10.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    Jesus said John 5: 24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
    1John 5: 10-13
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
    Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Romans 8: 1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    2 Corinthians 5: 21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
