When I was younger, I had this extraordinary idea of what marriage was. As I have gotten older, I have realized that there are a lot of people that are just wasting their time. When marriages go right, it is truly a beautiful thing but when it goes wrong. . . .
When I was a young woman, My mom would always tell me that a man will only do what a woman allows him to do . She also told me that as a woman I was special, and it was imperative that I love myself and never let a man waste my time...I hate to say this but Loretta ALLOWED this man to string her along for 30 years!!! This is one of the saddest situations to happen to anyone. I am a licensed therapist and have a JD and I wish that I could counsel this precious woman. He loves himself more than even God, based on his comments. She is beautiful and I assume accomplished and intelligent and this doesn't appear to be a proposal based on the covenant of marriage that our God teaches in the Bible. The proposal, such as it was, was foul, disrespectful, unloving, uncaring, and ignorant. He is supposed to love her as God loves the church, his bride. I remember when I wanted to listen to something by Noel Jones. The Holy Spirit kept telling me not to, and that something was wrong with his spirit. As I watched the proposal, that warning kept coming to my mind. With all the talk about 7 single women for each available single man, it can lead to men feeling free to devalue women, treat them like toys they play with when they want to, and throw on the ground when they're not interested. Maybe she thought he was her last chance at marriage, despite having been strung along for almost 3 decades. I am unable to see any sign that he values her. Is she in a situation of wanting a person who may partially meet some of her emotional needs but does not truly cherish her? Perhaps she thinks this is the best that's left from which to choose. From the outside looking in, it really makes me feel like she's been treated like a leftover. Is this all a woman can expect from marriage from today's adult male?

When I was a young woman, My mom would always tell me that a man will only do what a woman allows him to do . She also told me that as a woman I was special, and it was imperative that I love myself and never let a man waste my time...I hate to say this but Loretta ALLOWED this man to string her along for 30 years!!! This is one of the saddest situations to happen to anyone. I am a licensed therapist and have a JD and I wish that I could counsel this precious woman. He loves himself more than even God, based on his comments. She is beautiful and I assume accomplished and intelligent and this doesn't appear to be a proposal based on the covenant of marriage that our God teaches in the Bible. Couldn’t be me, but I saw in her and in the response from the congregation that this was an answered prayer. I remember when I wanted to listen to something by Noel Jones. The Holy Spirit kept telling me not to, and that something was wrong with his spirit. As I watched the proposal, that warning kept coming to my mind.
With all the talk about 7 single women for each available single man, it can lead to men feeling free to devalue women, treat them like toys they play with when they want to, and throw on the ground when they're not interested. Maybe she thought he was her last chance at marriage, despite having been strung along for almost 3 decades. I am unable to see any sign that he values her. Is she in a situation of wanting a person who may partially meet some of her emotional needs but does not truly cherish her? Perhaps she thinks this is the best that's left from which to choose. From the outside looking in, it really makes me feel like she's been treated like a leftover. Is this all a woman can expect from marriage from today's adult male?

She was the only one who sat back and waited in the foolishness of it all, so he had no choice to keep from looking bad, after the TV show, and probably fronting her businesses she probably was already being more financially successful because he was probably in those businesses together, especially the restaurant they have been business partners in for years, and money front $$ man, that's probably why she held on. She was getting everything else, but a signed document of marriage. She waited, because she had everything else. She was a kept woman. They probably rehearsed all this before it happened. I bet they dated for all them 20 to 28 years, but she knew in the end she would win $$$$$$$
I can agree with much of this, and "kept" for sure, but it was a gamble because who won? If she's been kept all along but he's been choosing others all along, I don't call that winning. In my book, the default is never chosen, even in marriage . The default is needed now. That is not the sane as wanted.
