Man, I fucking love Rinkaku... This song is just a whole different experience. Their whole album ARCHE is a masterpiece tbh. Been listening to these guys for about 11/12 years now and they are mesmerizing, creative, innovative and all great things combined. Never got bored of them. Didn't see if you already reacted to Ningen wo Kaburu (unrestricted version or the live version from the dvd) or the World of Mercy but you should definitely do it, if you didn't. Great songs. Uroko and Behind a Vacant Image (especially the live from SHINSEKAI) are also fantastic.
I've commented before on your reactions to Diru's other songs. Rinkaku is my favorite song beyond any other. The lyrics speak to me in a way that's indescribable. I have the Kanji for Rinkaku tattoo'd on my arm, it means "Contours/shades/lines." Arche is a masterpiece of an album and the concert is amazing. Kyo is a master in this, he is the Messiah of Diru's fans. If you get a change, please watch Sugizo's song "Zessai", Kyo does the vocals and it's a good example of Kyo's range and his power.

Eh whatever. To many (including myself), DEG is "nough" easily by just the music, looking at the vocals as another instrument. Personally, I don't speak Japanese and, even with translations, Kyo's lyrics are SO poetic and cryptic that I wouldn't get the point anyways. But still, with his insane expressiveness and way to perform and interpret the songs, I think I kind of get the point. And, again, listening to this beautiful art is enough to get me on an emotional level that no other band as ever even come close to reaching :)
Honestly? Probably because the first time hearing a Dir en grey song there's so much going on musically that the lyrics, being so metaphorical and poetic, will just be a distraction. You won't be able to grasp the meaning of the words. Better to concentrate on the feeling Kyo conveys and look up the lyrics later, if you want the deeper meaning (or which is more often the case, make your own interpretation of the meaning). I do think the day 2 performance is better though! Except he doesn't have this fantastic makeup in that...
I personally don't care much about the translation initially. I listen to it for the emotion, at least for the first month or so, then I look up the translations. I understand enough Japanese to get the jist of a song in the beginning, so that may be part of it. Also, the addition of subtitles scrolling across the bottom distracts me from the song and the performance, just a personal thing.
