I'm Indonesian, salute and take off your hat to appreciate their efforts. If flashback 10-30 years ago, Indonesia experienced something similar. Don't be surprised if 10-30 years ago foreigners all over the world looked at Indonesia as a poor and dirty country. The problem of garbage is almost universal in big cities in Indonesia. Even the capital city is not free from it, inadequate public facilities, poor waste management, to complicated bureaucracy. Step by step Indonesia is transforming. Since our former President Mr. Jokowi took office, Jakarta has been made a pilot program in many ways. Like dreaming that Jakarta will improve like it is now in just 10 years. What you see about garbage in this video is also what has happened in Indonesia. Is everything resolved? Not yet. Changing a country this big, spread across tens of thousands of islands, without continuity and consistency of national leadership will be just a dream.Even leaders who have changed many things in a positive direction are often subject to attempts to overthrow them, for example the former president Jokowi himself receiving threats of death, overthrow of power or slander. Another case happen to the former governor of Jakarta named Ahok until repeatedly trying to be overthrown and finally succeeded in being imprisoned in an extraordinary way through slander and opinion manipulation that was considered illegal. He was the one who initiated the clean-up of the state apparatus at the Jakarta provincial level, cleaned up the mafia in many fields, and even dared to oppose/fight against the policies of officials at higher levels such as ministers if it is contrary to the principles of good governance, and city thugs who disrupt the security of parking lots/street vendor areas. Outstanding governor in my eyes throughout my life. That is what happens to leaders who bring progress. China is no exception, how amazed the world is seeing China's progress now,Both economic progress and technological mastery began with the head of state who cleaned up corrupt politicians and state officials by imposing the death penalty on corruptors, and he also realized His position and even his life are threatened, but there are people like that who dare to sacrifice for the progress of their country, even though not many dare to come forward.

in indonesia especially in the city, their wastewater goes into the waterways except for their toilet, they have septic tank for their turd, but the rest of all the wastewater goes to waterways any waterways.

Those waterways are going to waste disposal sites though, not rivers.

@@handoit well I can't say for other areas, but at least in Jakarta it is to the waste disposal sites and not rivers. Though, there are some slum areas on riverbank where the residents directly throw their garbage to the river, those are the problems and not the waterways.

But if you know these countries, you know very well that everything will be littered again in a very short time.
What is missing is education and awareness of the environment from early childhood, regulated waste disposal and recycling on a large scale. I have seen places like this with my own eyes, whether in India, Nepal, Egypt or Southeast Asia... unfortunately sad reality

i don't want to say this, but the fact is indonesia have it too, and it's quite a lot. from dirty beach, dirty river, dirty estuary, dirty canal to dirty road and etc.
because people in indonesia don't have the knowledge how to process their trash, so they tend put all trash in one bag to just throw it away(in waterway, road etc) or just burn it, and the government is not implementing good waste management system.
and lot of indonesian don't have the etiquette about their trash, they just throw it. the law is there, but government is to loose enforcing the law that's why people do it anyway, because their not strictly enforcing the law and they don't have good waste management system. there are some area that have good waste management system but the number is too too small compare to the nation.
