I'm starting to think drowing joyboy and the world was the only way imu could beat him. The original joyboy possibly got so powerful that he was winning. His enemy was the original ancient kings who united against him. I think he found out about imu last minute. And had a jesus to judas moment. Where he acknowledges he knows in a low key way before battling the present United kingdoms in his time. That he was making everything around him the way he wanted with every thought and step. Like world breaker hulk but bigger damn near when having the power to create at will. I think that's when even his own crew mates after being fooled by imu. Agreed to drown him after imu told them a lie. Either about the legend of joyboy power and how he will turn on them and lose control. Or blamed a death of a significant character from that time that ment alot to all of them. As imu gained the power of Uranus. When it was imu the whole time to set up the betrayal. Then in the end a joyboy so powerful and so unrecognizable but still himself. Is throw off by a huge tidal wave overshadowing him. After he has rampaged through armies and kings. Leaving his mark power wise. As he smiles and says "Good luck luffy, i forgive you all my friends. I know you dont know. " Accepting his fate because he seen the future after gaining so much power and getting the help of some godly being he met in his early journeys in order to gain knowledge of the future. Ultimately showing what he was missing that luffy has. His friends who can cover things he can't when he is worrying about others things. The unity of a great crew that truly stick together.
For all the "talking" being done in this arc, besides the goriseis true forms what have we actually learned that we didn't already know? This arc didn't really leave the impact I thought it would. Hopefully with the giants some actual important questions get answers
