    Hi That was an excellent video.I went up snaefell back in June with my mum and grandma.The cafe at the top of the mountain is lovely amd we had somethng in the cafe. The tram was full both ways being the summer time. The ride was very enjoyable and sadly the Laxey Wheel was still in scoffolding back in in June and the Horse Trams were still not running after the iup grades works.

      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Bobby, didn’t know about the Laxey Wheel, glad I went when I did them in a way and I think I was reasonably lucky with the weather. Shame a couple of the trains weren’t open but a good excuse to go back some other time I guess 👍

      It was! The tram stuff doesn’t seem to do that well on the channel. But for me, they are often my favourite journeys. Definitely recommended.

    Excellent video when I went in 2017 the trams were out of use as a result of the weather but Laxey had an amazing book shop

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. Yes, there was a kind of transport-related bookshop round the corner from the tram station I think. It was closed when I went looking for it unfortunately.

    The Mountain trains were heavily modified after the accident. (I saw the remains a few days after it happened, before they temporarily shut the system down) Additional brake systems etc. were added. The MER trams were fitted with failsafe brakes over 100 years ago.
    The depot you showed is only for the horse trams. The electric sheds are just North of the station. You can learn to drive both the MER trams and the Steam engines. Lastly the centre rail on the Mountain is only used for braking.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Michael, thanks for the info (the correct info) on the depot too. Much appreciated and yep, a very enjoyable few days I had travelling on these fantastic heritage railways. Hope to come back some day 😊

    It's a brilliant video and also all these heritage transport opportunity that the Isle of Man has to offer to visitors that made the island to get into my bucket list.
    I wish the same care was done here in Malta to the late Malta Railway (which closed in 1931) or the Malta Tramway (which closed in 1929). Sadly, only one third class carriage of the Malta Railway still survives as the rest of locomotives, carriages, and double decker trams were sold to greedy scrap metal dealers.
    Anyway, have a lovely Christmas 🎄

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Enrico, happy Xmas to you too mate! All the IoM transport can be done on one card. I’ll post-up the info on that in next weeks video. We did that and it’s definitely worth the money. 👍

    When I went up in 89 on our School trip for some reason we did not take the tram to the summit so we had to walk from the nearest road. The weather was terrible so it felt like being in one of those joke fog postcards. Other days however were much better weather wise.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just wondering whether that nearest road was down by Bungalow station. Yep, it'd be a bit of a trek from there alright!

      @@LetsMakeaTrip In My school days in 1960 steam engines ran from Barrow to Whitehaven and beyond. Haig pit open in Kells above Whitehaven. Fishing boats fill the harbor as well. Quaker Oats unloading bulk ships. Being checked for residue radiation from Winscale and Sellafield factory incident 1956!!!!!!!!!! LOL

    Hi from sunny Scotland the black and white kerbs could be leftover from the war, traffic lights had the same and trees had white bands painted on them to be visible during the blackout.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Wally I was hoping someone would comment on this and yours was the first one. Now when I visualise this and the traffic lights I can see that makes perfect sense. Will be interested to see if anyone else comes back with further info 👍

    Many years ago l stayed with a friend who stayed on the Isle of Man & he took me for a walk up Snaefell , but they didn't have a railway away back then but I enjoyed the walk, also it was a good clear day & you could see Ireland and also part of the lsle of Man , it was a very enjoyable day.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was so changeable up there with the weather but yes when the clouds cleared, the views were fantastic. I guess the walk up is from bungalow? Probably more direct but steeper. I’d like to try that one day. Cheers John

    I have a question: Is Isle of Man another country inside the country of countries, AKA The UK?

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a Crown Dependency, I think it governs itself but is ultimately under sovereign control of the UK. It was, however, never part of the EU. lots of stuff on Wikipedia on his Pedro - an interesting read 👍

      I've been to the IOM a number of times, and it's just occurred to me that the Electric Railway service was only operating with a single car. Usually there's been an open trailer attached. Presumably because the numbers carried at the time of your visit didn't justify a second car.
