I'm watching this video in 2018. I lived in Elkins during this storm. So happy that I am back in the South where it doesn't snow. Everything was closed down. No electricity or phone service for a few days. Kept the items in my refrigerator outside in the snow and I didn't lose anything. Thank goodness for that.
Incredible accurate footage! I’m a huge fan of your work. It would have been such an honor to meet you and your team while in WV but I’m glad y’all made it out safely. Keep the storm videos rolling!
yikes yeah looks bad. but i still will never forget the ice storm that came to MA a couple years ago.3 inches of ice on every service, waking up and cryin as every other seconed the loud snapping crack of a tree falling one after the other. No power, trees down everywhere, snow everywhere. There was something frighting yet beautiful when the sun finally came back out days later and glistened at all that ice.Couldn't get over the cold or the ice. Hope it doesn't get that much destruction with sandy
Amazing footage. As for the people here in West Virginia, snow is nothing new and this region will be buried in it in the months to come and people will be ready for that. That's wasn't the issue, we frankly did not know what would hit us, where, or for how long. The wind was the worst of it along with snow that was heavy & wet and it took out power lines for miles, snapping hundreds of poles in places where the weak-hearted would never dare to go. God bless the MonPower line crews that have to
For all the people saying you get snow like this all the time, I'm not far from elkins and we do too. This was just really wet and took a lot of trees down but it wasn't anything to write home about, you just don't hear about people that are prepared because that doesn't make good news. FWIW I drove 60 miles to work Tuesday and cut and pulled all kinds of trees out of the road, and have been without power since Tuesday and it's not that bad.
I have seen 3 to 4 inches in an hour and I could not see 5 feet in front of me. this happened in 4 hours of snow banding in just a 30 mile area in southwestern nc. 6 feet fell in one day. look it up. thanks again gret job...
thank you for posting this vid I am from mill creek wv and familiar with the area and didn't go out any at all only for caroseen the power was out for about a week in a half and I think elkins had their power on in about a week and if you look there is the elkins Randolph county public libraye in the back there behind hunington bank at 7:00
I have family that live in Elkins & nearby, some of them have power now & some still don't :(. I lived there for a little bit years ago. I remember snows there but not sure if it is as much as I have seen when we use to live in Colorado. I hope everyone stays warm & safe there & they get their electricity back soon there in WV..
This looks like our area after every time we get snow squalls off of the Great Lakes. I and everyone I talk to feels horrible for what those people are going through but we're laughing at what they call a "blizzard". We walk to places and keep the schools open in stuff like this, it's just normal weather for us...
Yes. Elkins, West Virginia is usually the coldest area of the state. It is not unusual for that area to receive a lot of snow but the timing of this storm due to the Nor'Easter in October made it worse than usual. West Virginia receives snowstorms throughout the winter but usually after the middle of December until the end of March.
proportionaly the diamater of the this storm compared to the earths circunference, was bigger than the strom on jupiter compared to its circumference. fyi that is the biggest documented strom in the solar sistem and can be seen from earth, its the red spot on jupiter.
We have had more fucked up storms, I understand lives were list, but here where I live lives are lost every winter due to heavy snow storms we get with car crashes, people driving off bridges, cliffs, etc.

Reed Timmer:"I heard the lightning and saw the thunder"
I like a good blizzard. It can be quite cozy if you're ready for it, especially if you have a working fireplace.

Normal people stay inside when during a snowstorm!
That is why that mountain is named Cheat Mountain. it cheats men of their lives. Good call on not getting stranded up there.
