Right! After losing to the Pistons, McHale was encouraging Isaiah to go win the championship for the Eastern conference.

A lot of black fans especially the younger fans dont even have Larry in their top 10 of all time. And its simply because he's white. Some folks will never admit that a white guy can play better than a black guy. But they always got Jordan at the top. Larry Bird SPANKED Jordan's ass every time they met. Jordan never could beat Larry. If Jordan is the God of basketball but he never could beat Larry Bird then what does that make Larry? Yes Jordan was faster and could jump over the moon but Larry busted his ass every time. And some people say it's all about the number of rings you won. Why don't they have Bill Russell over Jordan. Bill won 11 championship rings. The man has more rings than he does rings. Being able to jump high and do fancy dribbling between the legs don't make anyone the best. They is a lot more to greatness than just stats and rings. Nobody had a higher basketball IQ than Larry Bird. FACTS

Larry Legend is the greatest 🙌

Legend could have been the color Plaid, but the simple fact is he had no holes in his game. He played with fundamentals but took them to an incredible level.

Bird took the same players just two years ago before bird was 20-63. They first year with bird same team went 60-23. The second year same team won the championship! He won in 81,84, and 86

    2 things -
    1. Kent Benson was an upperclassman on the Indiana Univ. Basketball team when Bird arrived. I heard that Benson was an absolute DICK to Bird from the jump. I don't know if that affected Bird's decision to go, but Bird made it a point to absolutely TORCH Benson whenever they played one another.
    2. I don't think that most players cared about the race issue with Larry, but the media played up that angle every chance they got. They didn't discriminate per se, but they always seemed to give him and the Celtics more airtime. It may be an east coast vs. west coast bias too though. Who knows...

Larry got a lot attention by the media because he was phenomenal basketball player and he was white. To have a white basketball player with Bird's skills and able to beat any player, black or white, made him stand out in a league dominated by black players.
To dismiss Bird's skills because he's white is an ignorant comment.

Larry earned praise for his skill. Rodney was just jealous and Isaiah felt he had to back up his team-mate. Larry was one of the greats, and the best players of that time agreed.

Isaiah knew Bird would throw down lol.
Larry doesn't give a flying fuck we think.
He played against the hotel worker, the older black dudes, Larry was Grateful.
Larry was a badass Southern Indiana boy, lots of them around but hooped!

Rodman got cooked in that series as a rookie. Isiah was mad and he meant it at the time. He pretends it was joking now.

Larry didn't care then and doesn't care now. Why do you care so much when they're on good terms with each other? The past inclines and informs, but it doesn't control, so don't get too het up about it. That's my philosophy as an amateur historian, which taught me that clinging to resentments of the past almost always leads to bad ends.
My opinion, worth every penny you paid me for it.

Rodman a rookie said if Bird wasn’t white he would just be another good basketball player. The team caption the guy who said bird did us a huge solid. They interviewed Isaiah and bird about Rodmans comments. And Bird said look if I’m okay with it and isiah is good with it we should move on!

Pistons won in 88 but Bird had bad bone spurs and had to have surgery in November on his Achilles.

I think with Isaiah’s if he was black comment he was taking the heat off his rookie teammate Rodman. Larry knew Isaiah very well and he knew why he said what he said, he knew Isaiah respected the hell out of his game and understood as the Pistons Captain and leader he needed to protect his naive emotional rookie from the media blowtorch that would of been directed squarely at a very young Dennis Rodman.
That’s why Larry basically told everyone to just drop it and leave Isaiah alone.

Tom Chambers. You may not know who he is. You should look him up. White guy with crazy hops. Scoring machine. Dropped 50, 60 regularly in the 80s. Has one of the greatest poster dunks of all time on Mark Jackson’s head. We are talking Vince Carter over Frederick Weis territory spectacular. He was not covered like Bird.
Because he wasn’t Larry Bird. Bird got the coverage because he dominated. He led what is still the greatest single season turn around as a rookie. He was clutch. He talked smack and backed it up. He humbled legends. He even made Pistol Pete retire when Pete said “you can’t be shooting over double teams like that” and Larry fired back “if you were any good, they wouldn’t be able to double me.” So no, if he was black he would’ve been covered like Magic or MJ. So basically the same. Rodman was wrong and would be first to tell you he had never been torched like that by a white guy before so he was just mad.

11:25 no, he wasn’t overrated because he was white, his stats back that up. BUT I can certainly understand why people felt that way. Remember, the resurgence of the NBA was just taking off and suddenly it and the players were getting more attention from the media. There were also a lot of lingering racial issues that played into how things were presented and interpreted. Refer to his reaction to “Courtship of Rivals” for more info. CBS pushed the Magic vs Bird narrative so of course the print media concentrated on those two. Doesn’t mean they ignored everyone else and it certainly doesn’t mean they didn’t deserve the attention. One or the other, and three times both, played in the finals every year of the 80s.

“Michael Jordan was the best individual player and Larry Bird was the best team player”

Bird was a way better shooter and passer than Jordan. And Bird was a great rebounder and was on two all defensive teams.

We seen A lot of great white Celtics play Dave Cowens as one of them Bird was phenomenon. You had to see him to believe him. He was a team player through and through and great at all aspects of the game. He was not a dunker per se although when he was younger he had some dunks. He was a better team defender than one on one but he could block steal and get played by simply going after the ball. Coach night said he had the quickest hands in the NBA. And he didn't give compliments often. On that 81 team was Maxwell tiny Archibald . Bird should have gotten the mvp that year but bird did not talk to the media. You should watch that series with the 76 ers . There is a video on it. They went from a 3-1 deficit to win. His other wins were 84 against the lakers and 86 against the rockets. Bird was so good that the media couldn't ignore his impact. That's why he got so much attention. He dominated on the court.great reaction so glad your back❤
