There’s something wrong with that attorney that thinks a minor amount of pulling away when being falsely detained justifies a brutal beating by the police. Both the attorney and the chief need to be fired and the chief needs to be charged and locked up. Anyone that doesn’t support this on that town council needs to be gone. Where is the humanity gone? This is unacceptable and makes the town look like a horrible place To be or visit.

Of course the lawyer is going to say that it was reasonable because otherwise he's going to have to try to fight off lawsuits. But I don't trust a lawyer paid by the city. I want an independent investigation into it and if the citizens don't feel safe with a cop there, it doesn't matter if they did the right thing they need to go. The citizen safety comes before the cops ability to do a job
The citizens have failed,, the citizens of that town and County have failed each other..

The city attorney should have spoke using the actual Use of Force standards, this is how police are judged. He would have found out that the chief was wrong and should be held accountable. If they go to federal court, the city is going to loose and so are the tax payers. Remember, most city attorneys are friends of the mayor and will do what they want.

This is happening all over the country and people are just waking up to it. The police have proven they are incapable of change and the justice system will not prosecute them so vigilante justice is the next step. It is even listed in the Constitution that it is legal.... The blood of tyrants.

Overzealous police chief typical to Mantua Police Dept. I don't buy the idea that appropriate force was used to subdue this elderly man's interference with an officer. Very poor situational awareness and judgement on the officer's part.
Your use of the word interference is incorrect. Legally interference has to be physically in the way or threatening to. Merely refusing to leave somewhere you have a right to be or using freedom of speech on the scene of an investigation does not apply.
And the victim here needs to sue the chief for his Pension !!
Good grief. Is it something with the name Mantua? I’m in Ohio and clicked on this because I thought this was the case involving our own Sheriff of Mantua……Ohio. Or could it just be old fashioned practice of giving someone a badge and gun that should not have it.

It was a case of two bull elk (one active officer and one retired officer) asserting their authority. The active police officer should have used discretion and deescalated the encounter.

"We investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong." Even in cases where that is true - and here I'm not saying it is or isn't - the police no longer have the benefit of the doubt. Any investigation has to be seen to be fair, independent, and done by people with no skin in the game.
They need to have the State Police to investigate. These county sheriff departments get to wrapped up in the “good old boys club” and nothing happens. We had a situation close where I live where an officer did something they shouldn’t have done and the county sheriff gave it to a local town department to investigate. Well, the citizens could band together and make it clear that no bond issues for the police will be passed until the chief is gone. I don't know about this area but in mine they are constantly trying to put tax increases on the ballot any chance they can. Assaulting the wallet never fails.

The lawyer started stuttering when he said the use of force was reasonable shows he really doesn't believe it. Emotions run high in family disputes but it's law enforcement who are supposed to be rational in the situation but things go left when cops get caught up in their ego, power and authority.

I seen where cops have told people to get away and when it gets to court they didn't have a legal right to tell the people to leave and the guy's 79 he wasn't a threat to the officer. And yeah if your daughter calls you and says help help and when you get there people are like you stay away at your family. You're going to try everything you can to help them and the fact that they decided let's beat on an 80-year-old guy instead of get things done.
