The United States did win but because of the socialist wing of American society, as well as prolonging the war for industrial profits, popularity of the fight became low so the US pulled out and left the South hanging. Vietnam has adopted some capitalism in order to be more prosperous.

Manuel S. The US won the Iraq war but the US had no plans what to do with it after so Iraq was as you can say lost due to the fact we did nothing with it after so it got worser just like in Vietnam the US won every major battle but for example Hamburger Hill was won over but the US just pulled their soldiers out and left the hill alone which allowed the Vietnamese to keep using the hill

"Rice farmers" didn't win the war, sophisticated Soviet and Chinese weaponry and supplies won the war for the Communists after the U.S. withdrew and cut off aid to South Vietnam. The myth that a bunch of rice Farmers somehow won the war is ridiculous.

I'm not a fan of Communism and as a Christian, I would pray for the oppressed Christians of China, North Korea and other Communist dominated countries. But as an Asian from the Northeastern states of India (Indo-Myanmar), I support my fellow Asians i.e Vietnam in their fight against Western Imperialism. US politics during those times were as Sgt. Hartman from the movie "Full metal Jacket" stated, "in a world of Shit". US troops greatly lacked knowledge of what they were fighting for. their actions in Southeast Asia against civilians especially at My Lai were terrible. US reputations in Vietnam weren't good. It paved way for Vietcong and NVA to gain the upper hand in the later stages of the war.

Respect for Vietnamese brave people who fought for their land and unification of the country. Vietnam humiliated 3 military powers in 20 century : French colonial troops, U.S army and Chinese army in 1979 war. The Chinese troops with 500.000 men were defeated by viets and failed to save the murderous Polpot and the bloody regime in Cambodia. Glory for them. I visited Vietnam last year..really peaceful country with friendly people. Moreover, after 40 years Vietnam and us are friends now. Vietnam's economy is booming, emerging from the wars now becoming a new economic tiger in Asia. Very bright future for them.

Sgt Daletski i remember the time B-52 were dropping the bomb directly on the capital of Vietnam, Ha Noi. They barely target the Air Turret Defence. Most of the bomb was dropped directly on the hospital, school, electricity went down and mainly people’s house. Civilians were evacuated by the tunnel....some bomb exploded and collapsed the tunnel.....even now I don’t know how many died and frankly I do not want to count....
On personal note, A group of Viet Cong soldiers distracted the Bomber by ringing the bell to cause a fake alarm bell. The B-52 change direction to the right side of the tunnel. If they did not cause that distraction, my mother wouldn’t be alive by now.

What are you talkin about? The Vietcong had their asses handed to them by us, we destroyed them. The reason the Communists won the war in the end was because the US withdrew and cut off Aid to South Vietnam while the Soviets and Chinese gave the Communist in the north massive amounts of military aid. it wasn't those little rice farmer gorillas in the field that won the war, it was Soviet tanks, planes, heavy artillery and other sophisticated equipment In massive numbers that won for them.
