  • Justine Triet, Sandra Hüller, and Arthur Harari join NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim to discuss writing with an actress in mind, complex characters, and the denial of access that is integral to their film, Anatomy of a Fall, following its NYFF61 premiere.
The winner of this year’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Justine Triet’s drama about a famous novelist (played by Toni Erdmann’s Sandra Hüller) accused of killing her husband after his body has fallen from a high window at their home in the French Alps is a riveting procedural and a delicate inquiry into the impossibility of ultimate truth in people’s relationships. A NEON release.
Anatomy of a Fall opens on October 18 at Film at Lincoln Center and tickets are on sale now: www.filmlinc.o...

@@TimWilthey rarely reward actors whose first language isn't English though, Parasite won everything and yet their actors weren't even nominated

The scene when we see the couple arguing in flashback, while the recording is being played in the courtroom is well done. It is also painful to watch.

I was floored by the psychological torment, Daniel, the son, went through. Milo played this so naturally and convincing.

Great movie. Great screenplay. Huller gives a tour de force performance and deserves her Oscar nom.

Huller gave a world's-best performance in 'Toni Erdmann' in any category and I told everyone about her. She should get 2 Oscars this year.

When she was switching answers between english and French, For a second i asked myself, was she doing that deliberately to mirror the movie or vice versa? Haha

She is great in this movie…she really pass the idea that nobody is free of flaws, life is not a villains and super heroes movie, we all can be both

Sandra Huller should be nominated here at the Oscars for a leading role as an actress. Well-deserved and I'm looking forward to more films from her like the 1st time I watched Isabelle Huppert, Marion Cotillard, and Juliette Binoche, my favorite actresses.

@@stockbag, yes, I agree with you. I also watched her in "Toni Erdmann" and she was so natural. That's why she won Best European Actress in 2016.

The 50 Cent song was genius! It sounded so obnoxious and with the misogynistic references. I can't imagine Jolene working in the same way.

@@lilmilontiktok'She's not even close' what metric are using for this exactly? She was better than Stone, and only matched by Lily who only had an hour of screentime so actually I'd say she's the most deserving of the three in a perfect world, and maybe not just Americans but they definitely award first language English speakers or 'Hollywood' actors at least 90% of the time (even when foreign actors are nominated)

Her English is very good, she just has a strong French accent. It's really not that hard to listen to I think. It's mostly an issue of comfort and vocabulary during interviews and that's why she uses an interpreter.
