I was present, as a child, while my mom, grandma, and aunts processed chicken. My grandma passed in May and us grandkids brought up (at her wake) watching that trauma with our own eyes. Lol. It was funny to look back on, but didn’t need the visual of the headless chicken running into the side of the barn. Lolol! It gives you a whole new appreciation for your food. It doesn’t just come from a factory…. 😊
Hey girl! So glad you got the opportunity to do that! I think I would have liked to piece them out as well. A majority of what I cook are thighs and on occasion breast meat. Perhaps you could have used the word dispatch instead of the word you were muting out, but that’s hindsight, right!? 😺 Hope have a blessed week! 🤗
Such a great experience! I have been present when my cousins were harvesting their animals. I didn’t do the deed but I saw it with my little kid eyes on a Labor Day family reunion. For a single digit aged child to see that was intense. I don’t know if I could do it now that I’m an adult. But I’m willing to learn. I’m willing because that’s the kind of life I want: Eating my own food Flies in my kitchen Barn dirt on my kitchen floor Dirty hands Aching muscles I believe my TBI symptoms would subside to below a 3 level of pain if I had that slow life. Thank you for sharing, Jaylea! ❤
Congratulations n great job! I think you did great for your 1st time. You will get better with things as you go. I'm so glad you took that step n weren't afraid of trying your best. Keep up the great work.
Awesome job! Takes some courage to do that! It's great to be able to see the process through and gain a whole new appreciation for where your food came from!
YAY! That is great that you did that! We will be on our 2nd year of processing chickens. I am out of canned chicken and can't wait for more this winter. It is so great to go to the canning room & grab it & make a meal quickly. We did Barred Rocks last time. We will be doing Belfielders this year. We keep dual purpose birds.
@faithandarrowhomestead oh my goodness!! I was asking because a lot of you tubers don't talk about altitudes when baking... Guess what, it's very important. Because we are almost 5000 ft above sea level I have to increase my oven temperature by 25 degrees. With that said, I'm just wondering if I'll have to do the same when using FMF.

What’s the typical weight you end up with on a dual purpose bird?
I could never do that.
Jaylee, where abouts are you? We live in central Oregon, high desert.
I’m in upstate New York!

I will buy my chicken from local farmers. I can do a lot of homestead things, but not meat chickens. Yuk!
Maybe you should stop eating meat. You would actually lose weight and be healthier.
Rude. And false.
Wow.
Melissa that is rude and incorrect.
@justme-uw6bz nothing rude about it. Just stating a fact. Stop eating death
