    I have one that I ordered for my late fiance after we watched an episode of bizarre food. I ordered it from a company in new Mexico, where he filmed the episode. It's the larger size and fairly heavy. I still use it. His favorite thing to cook was deer backstrap, cut into chunks, marinated in balsamic vinegar and maple syrup overnight. Then coat it in Kentucky Kernel seasoning. The other favorite is catfish, any fish really. And breaded cauliflower, mushrooms etc. All good

    Hey Daniel, that's called a Turkish Sac. They've been used for centuries around middle east and western Asia. Sac Kavurma is the name of the meat dish they make on those. It's a great cooking pan especially on open fire. Thanks for sharing how your dad made one.

    I made my steel wok from a piece of 1/8" inch sheet steel. I pounded it to shape while doing some hand forging. I used the top of an old 100 lb. propane tank for the form. It turned out pretty good. My cast iron woks are too heavy to carry around. The steel one is light enough and tough enough to throw in the back of my pickup when I'm headed out fishing or hunting for a few days.

      Thank you. I try my best to keep my kids involved in outdoor/farm type activities. I fear what the future holds for generations to come with less and less folks knowing how to take care of theirselves in their own.

    I really like that!! I'm not much into working metal, though. If you manage to find a disk, figure out how much you would charge to make one. It's something I'd consider buying, if it fit my budget (or I'd just have to save for it.).

    I quit making them because ACS was selling them for $38. BUT they are a little thinner. And it took me to long to get the paint off them. I figure if I ever male any more I will burn off the paint.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's hard to justify taking all the time to make one when you can buy one that cheap!

    • @petro062
      @petro062 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shipping was $10 a piece IF I bought 10. So I had to get buyers for them before I ordered them. 160 pounds on a palate. I kept one.

    Hi Daniel, I see it's been almost a year since you posted this, but I hope you'll answer a question for me. The pipe cover over the handle is a great idea. Do you think wood would work, or do they get too hot? Nice video, thanks.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wood will probably work even better, the metal handles get pretty hot sometimes.

  • @rosanegra95
    @rosanegra95 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What kind of metal these disks made of? Authentic woks are made from carbon steel and are used normally with high heat like an open flame so wouldn't they work on a campfire as well?

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not positive on the kind of steel. I just know that it is a disk off of a tractor implement. Yes it should work great on an open flame too.

    • @jerryellison5507
      @jerryellison5507 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally the discs are made from L80 steel.

  • @GlassTopRX7
    @GlassTopRX7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video but these things along with actual woks are rather cheap to buy as far as pans go. For around $30 for a nice carbon steel wok and slightly more for a cowboy wok. Make sense if you have the tools and stuff laying around though. If taken care of they last a life time.
    I recently saw a wok burner on Amazon with the a simple wok for $60 which is a steal if you ask me. In not time at all you can master Chinese and Mexican dishes with TH-cam as your guide.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right about the prices, but many of the store bought pans are nearly as big and don't hold up quite as well in the high heat of outdoor cooking. But then again most people have no need for one this large.
