Without this guitar, this song was going to be shelved as it was just run of the mill, and the Police didn't really like it...until one of their members brought the guitar part to them, and the rest was history. God BLESS this guitar instrumental addition
I love this! Beautiful guitar and keyboard parts. Bass is perfect. You can really hear how Stewart pieced together the drum part using a drum machine kick and live overdubs on top.
It's supposed to make people feel uncomfortable, but (even Sting admits that) it sounds too perky for a song about a obsessive stalker (which many people do not realize)!
@@derekbaker3279, it is surprising because the lyrics themselves say, "I'll be watching you" and still many couples that heard this say, "What a lovely song". The first time I heard the song, I found it rather weird, but the tone and the instrumental sounds... That changes the mood of the song. Still, the lyrics are weird even for an obsessive stalker.
@@solidsnakesfan2929 Very true! I guess that's one of the difficulties of writing a hit tune. You want it to be catchy, but the story in it is sad or dark. Three other popular 'romance'/wedding songs that are terribly misinterpreted are "The One I Love" by R.E.M. (actually a break-up song), and "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum (a sad story that probably involves a groom or groom-to-be confronting his fiance/bride about cheating on him). Also, I recall being at a wedding where the bride was of Chinese heritage, and they requested "China Girl" (Bowie's version of Iggy Pop's song), which is about Bowie & Iggy going to a heroin detox home in Berlin & the case worker taking monitoring/taking care of Iggy was Asian. Like the Police tune, there are some 'creepy' lyrics in "China Girl" which only make sense in context of a junkie experiencing withdrawl symptoms & fighting the 'demon of temptation's" attempts to 'negotiate'. There are so many famous songs that are so badly misinterpreted by the mainstream crowd!
@@derekbaker3279, exactly. It might seem weird, but I've seen people play Careless Whisper at Weddings (funny but weird at the same time because it talks about a lover who has cheated his love and now he cannot hope to have a relationship with her again). But it's tune... It's romantic and lovely for many people.
❤❤I've fallen in love with Katelyn Elise mahoney I'm going to wait the rest of my life for her I miss her I'd love to see her again so i can give her all the love thats in my heart ❤❤
I know this song well enough to hear some differences. This is not the final instrumental mix. Probably an early one. Especially the coda is not the same.
I've noticed this instrumental mix is a direct combination of the isolated instrumental tabs once breaking the song down and then put back together again but with all the stuff heard you won't hear in the standard mix even when taking away just the vocals due to some instruments like the synth not being mixed upfront in the intro and that fuzz electric guitar part at the end.

I wouldn't say the same. While a lot of 80's music sounds good, a lot of other things from the 80's aren't really... preferable for lack of a better term. Hell, it's probably a good thing you were born around 10 years more or less, because you could just play the music, movies and anything else you want with just a few taps on a screen, anytime and anywhere. No way in hell could you do that back then.
@@pcmatt9831 this is going to hurt, but there are 32 year olds who weren't born in the 80's now. You can have some of my ben gay for your back if it'll help you feel better.
not born 80's. If you are born at 80's you could barely experience it because you were too young. I was born 71 and it was best thing to happen because i was 9 - 18 old during eighties...80's is in my blood.

@neriashleycabajar1985 a Mid True He wrote this until he was dealing with a divorce . And the classic way of wedding says how "Wife is a property of the Husband"... 1:42 That transition is so beautiful
1:57 That transition is so beautiful
This is the worst part of this song imo
1:42 is close to perfection !!
I love that part!! So Beautiful
nothing very special
2:14 best
1:21-1:43 that little guitar solo is touching! Makes the song more *romantic and beautiful!*
What guitar solo? All he's doing there is strumming chords, that's hardly a solo
One of the defining songs of the Decade! They don't make them like this anymore. The instrumental version is awesome too.

God BLESS this guitar instrumental addition
Am I the only person who thinks this song sounds slightly depressing/bittersweet in a way?
that's the purpose.
Low tone in major key
Nah
It was a song made after a breakup
Thats the charm of it, hurts enough, sometimes.
One of the best 80's songs there ever was long live the 80's

Synth part from 2:32 is the best :)

I can hear the square wave synth laid on top of the bass line in the opening riff in this version!
To my mum in heaven love you always x

Yeah, I also thought the same, the final three chords are just hypnotic.
timeless song... Hey DJs do you know it was a very favorite of FRANKIE KNUCKLES
