Can’t ask for a more thorough review! I flew M20-Js and -Ks back in the late 1980s. Mostly it was the 231, with the fixed wastegate. Very fond of Mooneys!
Appreciate the comment. We love aviation. Aerolife is not just a company set up to do business. It is also a place to keep the great values of aviation alive.
Thanks. We make these videos so others can have important information about a plane. That was the struggle we had when we were buying our first plane. Not enough information for us to decide.
That is true, they are quite fast and efficient. I just posted a new video of this plane. The owner did some upgrades to LED lights and we had a chance to fly it again. You can take a look here if you like: th-cam.com/video/yLLeHahBuaU/w-d-xo.html
Enjoyed your video. It is kind of a brief and complete ground school for immediate take offs ; ) Very nice! You do a pleasant and nice to understand it all. I hope to fly one Mooney soon. Thanks!
A former employer owned an M20, and I got to fly in it a couple of times. Mooneys just seem to be more refined, and boy did it move along, considering it was a four place with only 200hp. What I find interesting is how you basically have to “push” it down to the runway on landing, because of its efficiency. If I had the budget, I would love to own one.
You're right. Mooney's are very aerodynamic. When landing, you manage approach speeds and let the energy bleed so it settles without trying to force it.
Alternate air is not for extra air inside. That s another source of air for the engine in case the primary source is clogged unless this is what you wanted to say. Mooneys are my favorite planes, love em' all!
@@aerolife1646 sure, here you are 19:30 This might be indeed air for the cockpit but I really doubt. Most complex aircrafts I know of that have alternate air is a second source of air for the engine that bypasses the air filter in case it is clogged with ice or debris...etc Obviously, needs to be used only if primary air source causes the engine to run rough due to lack of air because the air is not filtered using the alternate air and could absorb fod or debris, dust...etc During engine runnup, the alternate air needs to be tested when the engine is running at 1800 or 2000 RPM, whatever the RPM needed for the runnup. Activating the alternate air should cause a drop of RPM and sligth decrease of manifold pressure. If this is really that, do not train buyer saying it is extra air for the cockpit because they could use it in the worse moment (during taxi) and could damage the engine. As usually stated, please refer to the POH 😁
@@StefBelgium Yes it's an alternate air source for the engine if there's a blockage of some sort (ice/dirt/mechanical). But I think it should open automatically in such instances, so you shouldn't need to do so manually.
Great Job really enjoyed it! Can you do and review/comparison with a Bonanza? Also, some comments on weight and balance envelops of these airplanes compared to a workhorse like the 210 would be interesting. In a Bonanza It used to seem like we could hardly use the baggage compartment with three adults at an average weight of 175lbs each.
It's nice having Turbo but only if your flying at high altitude but that's slot of maintenance costs during annuals. What's the average cost of this Mooney? I just had my annual on my C model and I can almost bet that the cost I paid is probably half to what it would cost for this Mooney. I love the Mooney don't get me wrong, I would pick Mooney over Piper or Beech any day of the week and twice on Sunday but owning this Mooney a person almost needs to have money coming out their ears compared to my C model.
It costs more to operate and maintain Turbo airplanes compared to normally aspirated. In airplanes, it is always a trade-off. But these models are better designed. They don't need a mid-time top overhaul like most others. Also, automatic wastegate help to get the best out of the turbo.
Thank you very much Fritz, really appreciate your comment and watching our video. We try to do our best to include as much detail as we can in our videos.
Isnt this really a 252 not a 262 as the title says? My understanding is the 262 has the larger TSIO 540 Continental Engine? The 252 upgrades the M20k with intercooler and auto wastegate and optionally the addition of the TKS
The plane is exactly what the title says. It is a Mooney 262, the plane comes with the STC and supplement paperwork. I do not believe Continental made an TSIO540.
A 262 is a converted 231 with the TSIO-360-MB engine. The STC was obtained by ModWorks in FL which allowed the MB engine to be installed into the 231. This is not a factory 252 which is why it is called a 262 (a converted aircraft). The Mooney with a Continental TSIO 550 was called a Rocket (aptly named)!
@@pdspartner1 Mooney 231 and 252 are M20K medium body fuselage. Factory 252 is well refined from 231. The 262 conversions did similar refinements including MB engine like 252. They have similar performance. Mooney Rocket uses TSIO-520-NB. Mooney Missile uses normally aspirated IO-550
You know I got to admit.... I like your airplane videos better than anybody else's.. You're not shoving your knowledge into people's faces but at the same time it becomes very obvious that you do know what you're talking about..... Experience shows... .. however I do have one complaint.... You need to tell us what the prices of the airplanes are because most people are going to be put off by the fact that if they don't see the price they're going to automatically assume that that person wants a hell of a lot of money for that plane .... For myself if I don't see a price I don't deal with it....... It's got to do with wasted time.

Is the two-blade propeller as good as three-blade props?
I prefer to have 3 blade prop in 6 cylinder engines. Never had practical experience for 2 blade vs 3 blade on a Mooney though.
Plus mooney used a exact copy of the P-51 wings in 60% scale for the plane too.
Hi, beautiful plane. Question: "How do the speed brakes work?" Thanks.
Speed brakes can deploy in flight. They will come out like in the video. They work like "brakes" to slow down the plane.
They create more drag on the airframe thereby slowing it down.
Some are electric, some are hydraulic. Not sure which this bird has.
