This is the best review of this bike to date by anyone on TH-cam. But 42 lb?! That is 3 lb heavier than my downhill bike with tire insert in the back and coil shock That is crazy heavy for an enduro bike.
Thanks man! I'm gonna throw on some Nukeproof Horizon V2 and maybe a lighter front tire and see how it goes at Howler!
@@EvansMTBSaga I just put a v2 on my 2014 specialized enduro and I’m loving it for the price. Upgraded engagement points from my dt swiss/roval hub and it sounds like a swarm of angry bees. Not even that much heavier than my carbon rim was
i just checked kg to pounds and my nukeproof mega is almost 10 whole pounds lighter, with a fox 38, float x2 and the same tyre setup
Yeah that's pretty crazy. My Ripmo AF is only 35lbs on FR560s (not light wheels at all) and I thought it was a tad heavy haha
42 lbs is ridiculous
How did you go for a medium if you didn't know the bike was coming?😅
Had to pause the video to find this exact comment or add it.
He has been caught in a lie ! 😅
He has mentioned his height in plenty of videos
@@dantindley5181 yep, but he said he “ordered” a medium, yet didn’t know it was coming…
Yea it caught me off guard as well. Maybe they sent a large and he sent it back and asked for a medium because the large was too big idk
Evan is like good ol' top gear, don't think too much just laugh with him 😂
Best intro Collab ever😂
Haha right! I don't really show my wife on camera so that worked out with Calirado Kid
@@EvansMTBSaga it was a really good intro nice video been subbed for almost a year
Calirado is a riot...😅
I tried this bike when Polygon organized a public testing of this N9. It really is a colossal bike from the weight but it really is a beast going through turns and just glides through the downhill sections. Climbing is okay but would be much better if you put on a lighter wheelset and tires. It's one of those bikes that weigh a ton but hides its weight pretty well. I had a T8 once it was one of the best alloy bikes i've had and i've tried plenty! Polygon is big here in Asia and even so theyre still so underrated.
Yeah for DH I don't mind a heavier bike, but at only 150 lbs myself, it's a tad too have for my taste. I'd recommend it to heavier riders though (200 lbs+).
My biggest biking injury came from miss clipping in and ding a big drop. Went to flats after like 20 years and never looked back. I feel way safer and my technique has improved. I’ve never ridden better.
Gotta say one of my favorite things about your channel is the cost analysis, always keep that element!!!
I'd suggest extending your dropper post before hanging your bike by the saddle. I scrapped a dropper post doing so, learned the hard way !
I own a polygon vander t7 and their colossus n9 both are amazing bikes in their lineup. I would recommend these bikes to anyone of any skill level. Especially if your on a budget their bikes have very good value for the price ranges.
That's rad! Polygon bikes are always amazing, especially when you get one in person
@@EvansMTBSaga Definitely for sure!
Nice work bro! Got mine last week and been loving it!🤘🏻
It's a fun bike! Excited to see your video on it
@@EvansMTBSaga did a first look on it last week… th-cam.com/video/De_OrGQxGKM/w-d-xo.html
The two biggest things Polygon has going for them are the crazy great pricing for very good components and BEAUTIFUL paint jobs! My Siskiu T8 (the purple one) is freekin gorgeous. I got my T8 about a year ago for $2300 or so. Adding up all of the components (the Fox 34 fork, Fox Float, Shimano SLX everything drive train, the Tektro Orion brakes, a pair of Shwalbe Hans Dampf tires, TranzX dropper, etc)... My frame was almost Negative dollars. Crazy good value!
have the T7, gets so many looks and kids cheering :D
Awesome colour!!! I’m so glad you turfed the reflectors lol watching you all the way from western Canada 🇨🇦
A new bike day sweet, that was unexpected at all Evan not knowing that this arrived, & thank you "I am not a Sram brake guy" always love shimano brakes or anything not requiring dot fluid. Schwalbe tires I have always wanted to try them out, Nobby Nics were definitely a good start for San Quentin 2, Doddy from GMBN, & that bike is built like a tank.
Once you go XT, you never go back. Dump the Sram brakes and put on a nice set of XT. Do you think the 38 is overkill? You should head up to Windrock once you get it dialed in and give it a proper shake down. You'll see what it's capable of there.
Polygon has once again really brought something to the market that has incredible market busting value. The value you get with bike is incredible, you have a enduro/park tank ready bike tight out of the box with components that will last. However, I was working for the only dealership of polygon in Canada (Mountain Equipement Company) when this thing was released. I was a bike mechanic and my fellow mechanics and I saw that linkage and shuddered. In terms of performance it's awesome...it terms of wear and tear not so much. But for now I can't say much cause the bike just came out so we'll what the longterm out come is.
All in all Polygon brought us something that will give people with budget restrains a chance to truly shread and enjoy the higher level rides that all other entry level bikes don't always allow! Great review!
Also, for all freaking out because of the weight, I ride a 38 pound all Alloy 2022 rocky mountain slayer and climbing that thing all the time (also park laps with the bois duh). But a heavy bike always a bad thing, I find it makes mine super planted and stable. Amazing freeride/hard charge platform.
is the collosus gonna be available on MEC anytime soon??
The only draw back of this bike I can see other than weight. Is the tire combo. Polygon should have gone with the Magic Marry up front and the Big Betty or Hans Dampf in the back.
The Majic Marry is great for traction and digging in which you need for control and the Big Betty or Hans Dampf are faster rolling with bite, which you need at the back. The Magic Marry in the rear will slow you down in the dry dirt. The only good conditions for both Magic Marry is snow or wet muddy trails.
I ride the Magic Marry 2.4 super trail up front and Hans Dampf 2.35 super trail in the rear on my gaint trance 2 and it handles like it's glued to the trail.
Agreed. I have a Polygon that came with a pair of Hans Dampfs (2.6 inch). I keep one up front and put a Kenda Helldiver (2.35 inch) on the rear for less resistance and more speed. But on bike park days when I go big, I put the other Hans Dampf back there as well. I think my next front tire will be a Magic Mary for the reasons you mentioned.
I love long travel bikes. I also love bikes that cost less than $3k Poloygon is pretty impressive.
Great video Evan.
It costs 3.5k though
Didn’t know it was arriving although says he chose a medium and instead of the large like the website suggest. What the hell
That intro 😂😂
Great video! Dude, honestly heavy bikes feel so stable on chunk, and also in the air. My steel full suspension has similar characteristics.
Curious on all those pivots and how quick youll have to service em
Your right about the super gravity as bigger guy I went for that casing. They get much faster once worn a bit, I was running big Betty rear, magic Mary front, Great combo.
The tyres are very heavy, but heavy is reliable! Never had a puncture in 2 years.
I've got maxxis dhr and dhf now and I do prefer schwable set tbh
How does the "six-bar" linkage get rid of peddle bob?
Yeah I don't notice pedal bob at all
A low bb is good for stability it turns but a high bb will lean over easier. This might be what you like in the turns.
You said you didn't know you were getting the bike, bit also that you went with the medium... Busted
Riding double magic mary super gravity is epic if you ride in slop and leaf-covered roots like the SW UK and South Wales. They're usually top choice over here. Swap it out for a super gravity Big Betty if you want something faster rolling but just as supportive on the back; better than the Hans Wank, but not as traction-blessed as the Marys when doing steeps in the wet.
The short rear chainstays contribute to the great cornering. I have the MT Bromo ebike and it has the same rear suspension design. I also have the same tires and they are awesome in the wet here in the PNW. The Addix soft compound is pretty sticky.
Oh dang I forgot to include that number in the video. Forgot to look haha
I've got the exact same tyre setup with the same compound on my enduro hardtail. I love it and the Magic Mary has been my go-to front for a while. But I have found it lacks grip in loose, dry terrain compared to other brands. In wet and in mud it's fantastic though!
I have the older version of the n9, its great bike. Take the drive down to Mt Nebo, the n9 loves the trails there. The faster you go the better that bike performs.
Wow, my ebike conversion only weighs 21.5kg! That Colossus is HEAVY.
Awesome, I would love this bike but I think the T 8 fits my riding a bit more! Looks fun though
Haha dude I'm 5 seconds in and already laughing with that image of your wife haha sooo loving this channel! And now back to the video! PS this looks like the bike I'm looking for in my life! 🏆
That is a sick Collab bro! I love the bike too! 😂
Haha right! Calirado Kid cameo
Amazing review - really enjoyed it :)
Some thoughts on the bike -
2.6 tyres are a bit too heavy and wide - what about switching to a 2.35 or 2.4 (same casings) on the Horizon v2 wheels you're planning to fit?
Ditch the KMC chain and fit a Shimano one - the shifting will be much better as it will be a complete Hyperglide+ system.
You could save 200g if you fit an XT rear cassette but the Deore will last longer.
@@b4bnik you’re hating on it for noooo reason other than it’s a budget bike. Smh
how did you go with a medium if you had no idea polygon was sending you this....
I live about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from howler, I went there last year and wiped out pretty good on stroller coaster 😂 I had to go to the hospital and get stitches in my knee and my nose
The magic mary is my favourite tire , the grip is magical but it comes with a lot of resistance so I wouldn’t use at the rear unless its a dh bike . I would switch it with a nobby nic or a big betty .
Wow this bike reminds me of Army paint, wicked ride though.
For wet conditions the Magic Mary is actually really good. For the back tire, I'd probably pair that front MM up with a Big Betty out back. Definitely also try your 30mm width wheels on it. I'm not a fan of 35mm wheels, I just find they handle like a plow truck and make the bike feel heavier than it is. I also just recently switched to the PNW Loam pedals and love them, better grip than even TMACs.
he said he had no idea the bike was come and then said he went with a medium
Whats the video you mentioned with Doddy talking about rubbing the brake pads in water?
th-cam.com/video/rgfBMcT87EQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GMBNTech
Hey Evans do you have a link for the video talking about rubbing the brake pads in water? Thanks
never mind I found it. For those interested: th-cam.com/video/rgfBMcT87EQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GMBNTech
This guy is my favorite mtb TH-camr 100%
Thanks Zachary!!
the best enduro bike I ever owned was the 2021 santa cruz nomad, your description of this bike reminds me of that bike.
Greatest bike review on youtube to date bro well done evan!
Pros Closet had an alloy Orbea Rallon w a Zeb Select w RC2 damper and a Deluxe Ultimate on the rear-- $3900 out of the box. 31 libs. size large. Bikes that are forgiving, forgive rider errors. Precise bikes reward better riders. Chair lift beast.
I do have my eye on one of those models 😁
@@EvansMTBSaga It seems you have a good relationship w Polygon and it' a quality company, but I don't quite get the size of this bike. If you bike park it mostly, I understand. I think I misquoted that price for the Rallon-- It's $4999. I just put $1200 into my Stumpjumper a year ago or I would spring on that deal.
I enjoy your channel. With suspension setup, you mentioned the rebound was too fast. I watched GMBN vid on Pros setups vs Avg Joes ( basically factory recommendations). It may be worth checking out. I changed my air setups, and I added 2 token to my Pike 150. It feels bombproof for a 35 mm stanchion fork.
Awesome vid Evan! Keen to see the bike at Howler!!!
Thanks again! I reached out to Seth and hopefully get to meet him there
Sorry Evan, can you clarify how the idea of putting the brake-pads in water work. I have sram code rsc and encounter some problems with the pads. Thanks
Tall bottom brackets are really good
My bike came with those tires. I wanted to change them at first they seemed very slow rollong but the more I rode harder stuff the more I appreciated them. I'll probably keep it under it needs to be replaced at this point
As someone who rides e-bikes all the time I don’t understand the obsession with lightening the bike. I actually like the feeling of a heavy bike. Feels more stable my bike is like 25kg
a light bike is a different feeling, super easy to move around and corner with... i ride a 170mm ebike and a 120mm trail bike for reference 👌
This isnt an ebike. You actually might have to pedal uphill sometime.😅
@@jamble7k I have 4 bikes and my favourites are my e-bike and my fat bike. I don’t really like my train bike it feels really skittish and unstable being so light
@@johndef5075 Evan was riding an uplift downhill park and only ever talks about weight in reference to handling and going down hill
Polygons are great……..if you live in Aus or US.
Literally Zero support in EU. GO outdoors (UK) do a a few spares for the Siskiu D/T that they sold.
I’ve had to make bushes & upper linkage bolts for my ‘19 Siskiu N.
I love it, geo is perfect for me, it’s like a long travel trail bike.
best collab i love how mtber collab its was incredible tho you also should collab with nrml mtber
Dude, love the bike, has same 6 point suspension as my Mt bromo n7
I find myself strangely attracted to your wife. I hope this doesn't affect our relationship. 😂
You can have her! More new bikes for me 😄
not sure about that weight, but that bike is a very good value for $3500, with fox suspension and xt 8100 drivetrain (despite the cassette being deore 6100).
Lets see some lap times comparing the Commencal and the Polygon.
How do you usually bed your brakes in? I specifically pour bottled water onto the brakes during the bed in process. Wet sanding works great!
You said you didn't know you were getting the bike but you said you picked a medium on the website
Dam polyogn stepping up their game with the specs
Dam that heavy, my Transition carbon with cushcore, dh casing tyres, coil and fox 38 is still under 17kg I think. Those polygon wheels are heavy as to, you'd probably drop 1kg changing them out for a lighter wheelset
I've looked at this thumbnail loads of times but never noticed the Shadow of the Colossus LOL I wonder if there are many MTB/gamers
haha I didn't know it was a game until I went looking for a colossal figure. I'm pumped how the thumb turned out though and only a few people saw the reference. I used to be a big time gamer though
Wow, that’s a lot of bearings!
Code and G2 are really good brakes
Bad-ass. Kinda wish I would have waited to get this vs my T7.
"i didn't order a bike".......a minute later, "I went with a medium, even though the website recommended a large" 🤨
Hey, if you have a gopro, try it for the chest mount, I feel it gives a better quality output, just my opinion
Getting a DJI in the mail tomorrow. I found GoPro hated the filtered sunlight under the trees
@@EvansMTBSaga nice!
Man my custom build nuckproof mega al 170mm front 160mm rear is 36lbs with all xt brakes drive train and rockshox ultimate suspension with nuckproof horizon v2 rims and dd tires with ard inserts
Could you link or tell the name of the Doddy video where talks about rubbing the brake pads in water?
th-cam.com/video/rgfBMcT87EQ/w-d-xo.html
Nice review! I have a Polygon D7 that I have upgraded to the point I should have just bought a T8 but it is dialed in perfectly, so I don't sweat it. Besides no matter what you spend initially, its very likely you will need to put at least a couple hundred into it to get it perfect.
I'm wondering why polygon hasn't released a dedicated full carbon xc suspension bike yet 🤔?
My only guess is that they make their aluminum frames in one certain factory that makes other frames for other bigger companies. My guess is they have a sweet deal going on and don't want to stray to far? My Siskiu's welds are absolute perfection.
@@playgroundchooser hey... Yes it could be.. But in order to stay with the competition, it's only a matter of time they have to make a carbon xc full suspension bike.. I mean polygon already has a xc hardtail so why not a full suspension line?
@@palpatine1975 you're absolutely correct, to keep up they'd better expand. I also just realized that with the "post COVID bike crash" people keep talking about; there may be some carbon production lines opening up that would love to fill some orders for a sweet deal. 🤞🤞
@@playgroundchooser yes just imagine a full carbon xc Siskiu decked out with XT components and fox 🦊 suspension!
@@playgroundchooser Polygon brand is made by Insera Sena. Insera Sena is the OEM for Marin and Polygon. So your comment is really weird regarding deals between Polygon and its factory. Polygon doesn't manufacture their own carbon frame yet.
I fear Polygon is slightly diluting its lineup. I plan to use my bike in the city for commuting and would sacrifice some off road ability for speed. But I still intend to off road it on weekends. What does on/off roading best: Enduro, Heist or Xtrada?
Enduro for sure, but wouldn't ride that well around the city
I have a 2021 polygon N9 and its a beast. Bombs downhills excellent but it is a heavy beast to climb with.
That's cool the previous model was a beast too. Probably why they renamed it "Colossus"!
I can't lie...I actually feel like it's not that great of a deal. The newly redesigned fezzari la sal peak only comes in carbon frames and pedals super well, and the base build is on sale for 3150 right now, with a super solid build option at 4250. I feel like that'd definitely be my pick for an enduro bike.
I have polygon siskiu. Their name is cost effective as always. ❤❤
Does the hack with brake pads dipped in water actually work?
And can it be used on old pads to improve stoping power?
The magic mart double downs are about 4 lbs of the weight of that bike
19kgs?? My Orbea Rallon in a size XL with 29'' rims is 14kgs, this is crazy heavy for an enduro, but other than that, nice bike.
Yoo didnt expect to see calirado kid in this vid lol
You never know when I’m gonna make another Calirado Cameo! 😂
FYI The Semipalatinsk Test Site, also known as "The Polygon", was the primary testing venue for the Soviet Union's nuclear weapons. It is located on the steppe in northeast Kazakhstan, south of the valley of the Irtysh River.
Nice review, what do you think about 2.6 magic mary ? i see that in super trail casing is lighter, is it too big for a front enduro tyre ? thanks
I love the super gravity 2.6! No tire roll, no worries with punctures.
That bike is sweet, despite the weight, but surprised they used sram brakes with a Shimano drivetrain and fox setup. SLX 4 pots would have paired up nicely with the XT group
Awesome video... I wish I had one of them show up at my door 😅.... And come on one up sponsor him already 🎉🎉
Didnt know you he was getting it but then "went for a medium"....?
Are you taking it to wistler?
Hey you should make a video about the ledger sprint race
Why do people hate on SRAM so much? Their brakes are the best considering I have ridden Sram and Shimano brakes. Sram feels much better and doesn't have that on and off feeling that Shimano gives you as the modulation they have is insane.
By the way that metal noise when braking is a sign of something being up with the brakes and is not normal. I gave mine to a bike shop and they fixed it, so I can't give you any more info than that, sorry.
I have a commencal meta am 2012. It,s in a pretty bad shape and i don,t have alot of money. What fo you think i should do?
Sick looking bike! Looks like a tank... In a good way.
I know right! I've grown to like tanky Enduro bikes
You gotta bring it up to Howler!
I'll be there Saturday!
Every bike is heavy with you😂 awesome vid though!
I have a 22lbs XC bike
The pokemon card paintjob haha, love it!
Haha it is! Never seen holographics on a bike like that
So wait you requested a medium, but you didn't know it was coming? Busted buster 😂😂😂
I had told them I was interested and hadn't heard anything from them in over a month. Then poof it just showed up
@Evans MTB Saga ijk bro! Wish I had some of that magic bike energy!! It's a amazing bike! Been riding polygons for 3yrs now.
What kind of Fly racing pants are you wearing?
The model is "Radium". They're sooooo good
I'm trying to save some weight on my enduro too. especialy unsprung weight.
bro i thought that my hardtail was heavy at 15 kilograms
The weight is crazy, another reviewers on youtube was like 36lbs stock.
Yeah I saw that. He used a cheap scale so I don't believe that to be accurate
I had those breaks as well and changing to Shimano ice tech rotors definitely helped but then I tried the Magura rotors as 220 and they mad the breaks grab very hard and seems to have good heat dissipation
If ya went with a medium then it wasnt a surprise my guy
i think you should test out trps trail evo brake with the 2.3mm thick rotors would like to see what you think of them as imo there probbly some of the nicest brakes iv ever riden
I reached out to them and they said they didn't have any brakes to giveaway for review 🤷
I wish i had a chance to even ride an enduro let alone own one i'm just stuck to my shady budget hardtail
Awesome video!:)
What clipless pedals do you use? (I use spd)
HT!
@@EvansMTBSaga nice! I have been riding clipless pedals for a few weeks, and its really awesome!
