I started keeping mine all year long about 9 years ago. I have one that is close to 9 years old. I live in Florida and I have half of my 8 plants in pots and the others in the ground. The ones in the ground froze up and I thought they were dead, but tho and behold they came back up again. The ones in the pots I covered up so they were fine. I have some die over the summer for some reason. The leaves start shriveling up and die. Have no idea why tho. But I can’t make 12 hours of dark happen because I can’t carry the pots in and my husband goes to work out the front door and that’s where they’re at. They do change colors but not on tune. Oh well, still love them. Thanks for the info
That is so cool that you have been able to keep some for so long. As for the larger ones in pots, they will naturally turn when they want to and when the conditions are just right. I always think of the native plants in Mexico, they don't get covered up either. Let nature take its course. Thanks for sharing your story! Cheers!
I left my plant in the kitchen to throw out and forgot about it. When I noticed it growing. Now l have a plant about l foot high full of braces real healthy but no sign of flowers. As l have no knowledge of the plants l have no idea what to do next. Please help.
Keep giving it bright lights. Natural light is fine. Since it is in the kitchen or high traffic area, with lights on and off in the evening hours, the light cycle will keep getting interrupted. So the bracts might not turn red as fast or soon as if it had a block of 12 uniterupted dark hours. I personall like the leaves and the way a poinsettia normally grows so I am always happy to have a green plant growing and when the red bracts/or leaves turn without any help, is always a bonus. Good luck.
I am not quite sure about "boulder". I have 2 different white flowers, one is a phaleonopsis orchid with the purple spots, and then on right side of the screen is a double White Amaryllis flower.
I still have one stem with color still (Aug 1), where as 2 other stems have green leaves. I have been letting it go to see just how long it will hold its color. Thanks for commenting and subscribing.
Not knowing if it has some colored bracts still, but at this time, do a little trimming or pinching back of the stems, but make sure it is exposed to the brightest light that is possible. Maybe even outside depending on where you live. But by the first of September you will want to start covering or subjecting it to more darkness than normal. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Sometimes, plants will go through a shock and their first responce is to drop or shed some of their leaves. This shock can happen transitioning from store/greenhouse to your house. Changing climate temps 3 times....store to car to house. And also light environments depending where you purchase your poinsettia....Grower (bright) to store (usually darker) to house (not as bright as grower/greenhouse). Keep from cold drafty areas in your house and place in the brightest light that you can offer. Keep soil moist but not overly wet. Good luck.
Why would plant have leaves constantly dying? I take it from inside to outside throughout the week. It's Arizona temps and I don't think I over water it.
With the constant changing from indoor to outside might be causing stress. What size of pot is it planted in? Check your roots, if they are crowded, re-potting up one size might help.
The most concise and explanatory video about poinsettias thar I have seen. It explains everything I wanted to know. 🤠
Thank you!
It’s April and they’re still in bloom. Going to cut back now. Thanks so much.

What is that tall white Boulder in the background..

Mine kept her colors until June! Now I don't know if I should trim it to keep it alive.

I have done anything to my poinsettia this year. It is already the middle of July. What should I do to my poinsettia at this point?

@@SuccessfulGardens1 I don't know the exact size but I reported it February. It was almost double the size it came in. Should I just keep it inside?
Does your friend cut hers back?
I cut mine back each spring.
Do you mean Christmas or summer holidays?
The Christmas Holidays. They can keep blooming for several months.
