A Tale of Two Towns is my most-played HM title. Very relaxing, and the concept of the two towns' rivalry was actually very fresh. I liked it because the player helps to change the hateful relationship into more of a friendly rivalry, and you can see that the characters become happier and kinder as the plot progresses. It was also interesting being forced to choose, because there was really NO WAY to have it all. Gameplay was next-level chill. Also, the characters are just so cute and charming. Ying and Rahi are the cutest little child-characters in my opinion, Cam is so sweet, and I love the friendships that evolve between villagers of different towns. Oh! And Alicia is suuuuuch a sweetheart. The game is simplicity and perfection, it is such a gentle and friendly game with such beautiful graphics, and even thinking about it is like pure serotonin for me :)
@@Dahcs I totally agree!!! I'm almost at year 4 in game and I've owned my copy for probably 8/9 years now! It's so rewarding to open that same save file and return to a safe, comforting environment!
not to mention there was a bigger purpose for the cooking function, loved collecting new recipes maxing out the stars on those recipes the only aggravation is when you get shafted from the luck in the competition even if you do amazing there's still rng with teammates PS: Alicia, Georgia, Reina, and the Oracle were all so great to me aaaa PPS: THE SOUNDTRACK~
i love the tale of two towns, sunshine island, grand bazaar, and trio of towns. They are fun to play and the concept of the story is loveable. If they remastered these series with pc graphics or switch, I will buy them immediately

I love traditional Harvest Moon games because of the simplicity. Modern HM/SoS games need a lot more time to get used to. I played SoS and SoS: ToT on 3DS, and got bored by the looong intro scenes and tutorials. It really takes time for me to enjoy and appreciate the games. I like SoS: FoMT because it basically traditional HM game (HM FoMT) but with modern graphics and mechanics. Thanks, man. Great video. Will use it as a reference to try HM games that I haven't played
I have only played Pioneers of Olive town and the Friends of Mineral town. I do agree with you that Friends of Mineral town is a better game than Pioneers, I wasn't expecting much from this game because of the chibis graphics and lack of player's customization... but the characters have a lot of depth and the game has lots of fun aspects and mechanics to discover and conquer. I wish Pioneers of Olive town wasn't that inventive... They managed to get better graphics and customization that are lacking from Friends of Mineral town, yet they removed the all the essence that makes the characters interesting in the game... making it a more "farm game" with less of the "date simulation" stuff... (yet a strange decision, since their DLCs are all about more characters to marry). Pioneers of Olive town is a pretty farm simulator yet with tons of souless characters and and has no secrets to uncover xD
I LOVE sosfomt my only complaints is they could’ve add more stuff from BTN, like tomato festival, Harvest Goddess festival, plus some extra events. It would’ve made it more livelier, they could also finally bring back Greg, Louis (Chu) and Kano on screen too, instead of just have characters mentioning their existence
If somebody modded Back to Nature with two features it would be a perfect game. 1) Make the hot house invincible. 2) Make the horse rideable everywhere. The graphics are fine just leave it alone after that.

Let’s just hope that can do better next time too! My S tiers would be Friends of Mineral Town (any version) /Back to Nature and Animal Parade. Hero of Leaf Valley is ALMOST S for me, but not quite I wish they’d remake some of the other HM games like N64, Animal Parade, Magical Melody and give them the same love as Friends of Mineral Town
Im biased because I havent played every single game but A Wonderful Life, Magical Melody, & Trio of Towns will always be my favs. They're just so damn good and I've sunk so many hours of my life into them
harvest moon fomt's ost is what keeps on pulling me in because i have a fascination for retro games' osts and it's very nostalgic. i remember watching my uncle play it on his gameboy while i watch beside him before going to sleep
my one complain about Trio of Town is the inventory UI, its a nightmare to explore, and once you start to get a high number of resources, its pure pain to manage, i would've liked better if they used the old icon menu system, like older titles like FoMT or Rune Factory uses.

I have to agree with you about the Trio of towns. That was the very first Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon game I ever played and I really loved it! I was considering giving this series a try for a long time. Even asked a few of my friends about and most of them said that I wouldn't like it all that much. Due to the fact I'm a major horror fanatic and play games like RE8, Fatal Frame, and Silent Hill. I was even told that it was basically Chores the game. But I gave Trio of towns a try and fell in love with how relaxing and fun it actually was. Now I look forward to new ones that come out. I would give the older games a try if they weren't so pricy to get and I knew how emulators worked. ^^;
There's a DS ROM cartridge called 208 games in one that has all the rf and harvest moon DS games as well as many rpgs. Mine is older and only plays on old 3ds and won't play on my new 2dsxl. You can play it on mobile and probably pc with a separate emulator too which is nice.
In regards to the FoMT remake for Switch: I absolutely agree with you. I played the original FoMT as a teenager and, while there were changes made that I didn't like or agree with (ie.: the change in certain character designs, though mainly just Ann/Ran's & the Kappa's; the new marriage candidates, the star-quality crop system; the dumbed-down cooking; etc.), I've been playing it and it's a *great* remake. There was clearly a lot of love, care, and consideration put into it, and many of the changes and new features just make it even more worthwhile to play. I love that you can marry whichever bachelor/bachelorette you want regardless of your character's gender; I like the new animal types; I like that you can now access characters like Van & Ruby/Lou w/out having to link a GBA to a Gamecube; I like that Cliff can come back & stay in town even if you miss the initial window (which I ended up doing); the music's new renditions are even better to listen to; etc.
Trying to do the same thing the comments been helpful to deduce down for example what games actually have real feeling people in HM titles I hate animal crossing level characters with nothing going on

Absolutely agree that Trio of Towns is one of the best modern Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons Game. When I played PoVT, I was just.... disappointed with (most of) everything bcs Trio of Town is sooo wonderful, culture-rich, even you have a lot of late-game missions and many more. I still hardly move on from Trio of Town despite stellar animation and graphic PoVT has offered.
based trio of towns opinion, while it might not be my #1 (animal parade has my heart forever) it is objectively the best HM/SOS game for its gameplay , charm, and just stuff to do. it's the best overall package. also i bought pioneers of olive town and hated it but seeing you put it so high makes me want to try it again

Now that i finished watching this, i'm quite happy with your choices and the thoughts of them. I absolutely agree with those S tier, with a little exception. i actually going to put Animal Parade on S tier for the story, gameplay, cutscenes and for having the best Bachelor of all the series (imho) 😂 also, Island of Happiness is bad, but it deserves a D Rank because the story and cutscenes are quite good. also, i'll put all the Natsume's games mostly on E and D. i did play those titles and all of them suck. I think one of the only things I disagree with on this list is that I actually kind of liked skytree village and some of the differences they were going for. I think the intro to veggies becoming different based on where they were planted was clever. My issue with all of these were the fact that the characters are the same in each of the three natsume games before one world. Which I have not played yet. I wish you had included rune factory in here too where you did spin offs. Which I actually love more than harvest moon myself, but definitely carry a different vibe. They are first and foremost still harvest moon games. It would have been neat to see them placed in the mix.
I love TOT so much! There so much depth in the characters and it was worth getting the hearts of the villagers up. I loved how they’d offer to let you eat lunch with them once your friendship level was high enough. And how the stores would be closed during storms so you had make sure you had food for your animals and how they would be horrified if you came to their house during a storm. And the way you could message your family or how they would visit!! When I played POoT it felt like a dead town compared to TOT.
For me, I've only really played 3 but they were all really good sooooo A New Beginning is #1 in my heart but I also really liked Tale of Two Towns and Pioneers of Olive Town
I disagree about Story Of Seasons FOMT being a faithful remake of the original, and I think it's pretty inferior and I'll list why: - removed marriages from rivals, which was pretty cool in the original game for you to know that the other characters were successful in the game. - animals don't die, ridiculous. In the original FOMT you needed to be careful to take care of them, it was real. - the heart system with the cows and sheep is simply disastrous, as your animal that has always been with you will never reach 8-10 hearts, it doesn't reward the time you've treated your animal. Did you notice that my complaints don't say anything about the graphics? That's what a FOMT fan thinks about the remake. The original FOTM easily deserves an S, it's one of if not the best Harvest Moon game ever made, to this day I keep thinking how a game so well done, so complete it fits inside the GBA cartridge, the remake is a C per have taken very good things out of the original that made sense in the game. But I want to thank you for the video, you showed games that aroused me a lot of interest in playing, like Trio Of Towns and New Beginning, I didn't have the opportunity to play because I didn't have 3ds. Thank you for making this video! 💜😊 I wanted to buy a new Story of Seasons games since I only played the ones before the Marvelous and Natsume split specifically DS, Island of Happiness and Tale of Two Towns (3DS version). I have been thinking buying a newer game after the split but I couldn't decide. The Switch games have mixed ratings specially Pioneers of Olive Town so I am having a hard time if I should pick the Switch games or the last game S.O.S. game for the 3DS, Trio of Towns. I have been thinking back and forth if I should get it (Trio of Towns) or the newer Switch titles (Doraemon, Friends of Mineral remake or Pioneers...) . But I already played Harvest Moon A Tale of Two Towns so I was thinking twice. I am surprised that you gave it a very high rating. In fact, I couldn't see a review of it from IGN or other big video gaming sites so I was doubtful if it's a good game. I loved popo lol crois for the story because it was a sequel to the psp game but it was way too easy even on hard mode right up until the last boss battles. The farming was cute but more Farmville than harvest moon/sos. I did buy it when the eShop had a sale for $6, though.
I agree with your S ranks! I love HM Back to Nature and every other variations of it! It also is my very first HM game! And SoS: ToT is also my favorite! It's so fun playing it and learning about the different towns!
I was looking for a video like this, very informative, but one critique I'd give is that if you've played the game on the channel before, you should have some footage of each game to overlay while you talk. It'd increase your editing time significantly, but it would definitely make it a lot easier to follow the entire video. Good work though, I liked hearing your opinions
Great list and agree with just about everything. The only thing that saves IoH from E tier for me is that Town theme. Just will hit it on TH-cam and get lost in it. Never actually in the game though, those controls are horrible!
I really love Harvest Moon 3 (GBC). Being able to trade with other farms in the GBC games (as well as the Legend of the River King games!) was a neat addition too, since I liked LotRK2.
Very happy to see that A New Beginning made it to A rank, its a fantastic game that i dont see nearly enough people talk about. For me personally, it would be an S rank, no question. It's my absolute favorite game out of all the games in both series. I've put well over 1000 hours into the game, and just started a new playthrough a few days ago so i can enjoy the game all over again. I only have one single issue with the game and that's how slow the first month is. But the game really opens up once you unlock the workshop

My personal tier list based on the game I have played would be: S- A Wonderful Life A- Back to Nature B- Trio of Towns E- Island of Happiness I also own Magical Melody, but haven’t played it yet. And I plan to get Animal Parade at some point + the SoS: FoMT remake as well. AND I’m super pumped for AWL’s remake!
Harvest moon friend/more friend of mineral town is the only harvest moon game that I played, I liked it. And I love the remake of it, compare to the og, it's better in any aspect in my op and more friendly overall. I tried the Harvest moon PSP and god knows I hate it. The art style and control trigger me so much. I prefer the 2-2.5D play style in harvest moon better
I remember Island of Happiness...turned me off buying new HM games for years and missed out on the good ones. I completely missed Animal Parade and regret not picking that up back then. Harvest Moon 64 was my first game mom bought with the N64, played it so much, my only gripe was that I wish there was just a little more time to each day. I'm still playing HM64, its in my N64 right now in my office setup. S++ rank. SoS Trio is in one of my 3ds and PoOT competes with RF5 on the switch. Pretty sure I didn't buy another HM game after Island of Happiness until SoS. Looking forward to an SoS: Animal Parade remake on the switch fingers crossed.
I've never played a farming sim, but it's about time. I just bought a 2DS, so I'm looking at DS, 3DS, and eShop options. Game length doesn't matter to me. Probably the shorter the better, actually. I definitely want romance/marriage options. What do you think?
For 3DS HM options, I would completely recommend HM A New Beginning and Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns (although Trio of Towns is longer rather than shorter). You can get married in both these games and IMO they are some of the better 3DS HM games

Thanks for the video! My gf loves Harvest Moon it's the only game she will play, she says it's OG (compared to stardew and what not). I bought a switch and got her Light of Hope and she loved it. Eventually I bought her Friends of Mineral Town and now she loves that! However, I often work out of town and I take the Switch with me. I feel bad. Is there a comparable game you would recommend that I could get on either the PS4/PS5 or Xbox S or even PC that you think she would enjoy? I doubt it will work, as she tends to play the games laying down and falls asleep with the game running all the time lol.
As far as PS4 or PS5, there is honestly a lack of Harvest Moon games and even related games to it. It has Light of Hope, Mad Dash, One World, and online for PS2 it has A Wonderful Life: Special Edition. Aside from Stardew Valley, other highly recommended related games would be My Time at Portia and Graveyard Keeper
I would argue that Hero of Leaf Valley is an A at least but I played the crap out of it as a BTN fanboy so I say it's an S tier game. I agree with the rest of your list.
Because GBA/C and N64 games were before the time I was "allowed" to play video games, Story of Seasons Trio of Towns is hands-down my favorite video game in the series.
I stalled out in SoS: Doraemon. It's been over a year since I stopped playing, but I really enjoyed it for a while and put in a lot of hours. Then I hit this wall where, if I recall right, I needed to do a bunch of mining to make any more progress (or possibly to make certain items), and it got so tedious and seemed never ending, especially because I didn't want to do the game reloading tricks to save my stamina to make it further down.
You sir are too generous regarding Pioneers of Olive Town. The game suffers major framerate issue that even a peaceful tone couldn't save it. If that's the only issue, i'll be glad to overlook the weakness. However, what put me off the most was the villagers. I feel like they are just random faceless npc that are scripted to constantly give lecture about farming and general stuffs. Aside from gameplay tips, they said either too little or too much about their opinions and aspirations. Some people keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. They rarely seen interacting with the environment as a normal human being, as most of the time you'll only see them work, eat, then sleep like bots. Not to mention the festivals are mostly cutscenes, albeit fun, they are not as interactive as say FoMT. However i gotta admit that the farming side of the game is a step up from previous entries. I love they added moles to the mine. I love that you gradually unlock more stuff as you expand your farm. I love the decoration mechanic. They were the sole reason i was able to put about 20 hours in the game. I'll personally put it at low B and no higher. And i actually enjoyed Tale of Two Towns and Rune Factory games much more than Olive Town.
Interesting list. Many of the games you gave an A rating were for aspects of the game that made me give it a D rating. I have been playing series since the SNES, so it is interesting to see other people's opinions. Also, the S rated games I would also put lower, but only because I never enjoyed playing them.

I disagree with some of your opinions here and there, but really like that you don't just brush off one world and light of hope as "bad" games. LoH isnt anything new or amazing but I enjoyed it too. And I thought one world was lots of fun, and shows natsume is getting better with their hm titles. Werent bad games at all

I love the remake of Friends of Mineral Town. And that's coming from someone that started their HM journey with that game on the GBA. The game I played the most out of all my GBA games. Even played it on the big screen in my GBA player for years and years after!
Me playing friends of mineral town on the switch made me actually play all the harvest moon games my sister played growing up. So i walked into friends of mineral on gba like “holly crap I love both the gba and the switch versions”
Why do so many people give harvest moon 64 a legendary status? It's a good game and the social/relationship system is superior in many ways to the other games after ,but it also lacked alot of things found in games like back to nature and friends of nature making them about the same rating on that aspect anyways. The farming system sucks on the 64 mainly because of the menu system and it's just average after that nothing new from the old games infact I'd even say hm gbc 3 has a better farming system (though it's way too easy) should I dare? It also had clunky fishing, sprite relationship system was kind of bad compared to later games, alot of glitched (I really think they rushed to release this game) and many of the landscapes are very basic and suck. If they fixed these issues and took more time making this game I would be so much better.❤️👍
It was mindblowing at the time. Going back to it....that's another story. Most n64 games have unfortunately not aged very well IMO. I'd say that BTN was the superior version but I didn't play it until later so the nostalgia factor makes it hard to be objective.
Iight of hope gets hate cause of the grooming with Soleil. Also it was published on console before mobile and they obviously was planning on releasing it on mobile. I've played it through for an opinion.
My only problem on SoS:FoMT is the characters art design. Majority of all the designs are meh, that is the reason why I did not buy the game. My problem on Tales of Two Town is you cannot save everywhere. You need to go to your bedside table to save your progress and that’s kinda meh to me.
As I think, the seeds of memories is a great HM series for iOS. At least the game is totally manageable n' all of the features are much enjoyable relatively to other series of HM or the Story of seasons. Overall, I never get regret that I come back from those old days n' chip in for the game. 🐮🐶🐔💖😘
One world and Light of hope should not be C list tier. They weren’t even trying in those games def belongs in the E bin (trash). A Wonderful Life should be S tier, should never be an A tier. That game had one of the best stories and it really outshined what the older games have done.
tale of two towns have been on and off my e shop wishlist for a while, mainly because while watching gameplay for it the text box sound hurts my ears, I have seen a review about it where the girl explains how insane it was every single thing you did the hm goddess was there to pop up and congratulate you and how during all rainy days every shop is closed except the outdoor flower shop, and you never get the ingredients you need for the cooking festivals either. I have read a lot of reviews on it and a lot of people hate it, it's a mixed bag because there are some people that enjoy the game. It was part of my wishlist because I wanted to experience a traditional hm game. It looked interesting with the storyline and the marriage candidates looked like good ones as well, and the art of the game looked nice too. Is it worth getting overall? or just stick with getting trio of towns and a new beginning? Also I am surprised you love a new beginning considering I watched quite a bit of your gameplay with it and you always sounded like you wanted to burn the game due to constant annoyances you were experiencing with it.
TTOTT is my first Harvest Moon game, picked it up last week... It's really neat I don't regret it! The criticism you described is fair and there are many things I find frustrating but personally I really like the DS aesthetic over the 3d models of the newer entries

I like the style of it from what I have seen in the photos on e shop it has that original style old school harvest moon . So yes there are things I like and am cautious about but unfortunately there aren't much gameplay on it on TH-cam but it is what it is. What do you like about the game so far? Is it your first harvest moon/story of seasons game overall? Or first harvest moon game only?
I have Animal Parade but I don't think I gave it a fair shake. Seems like a lot of people like it! After Tree of Tranquility I was a bit disappointed and assumed the next Wii title would be similar.

Harvest moon/SoS is like the runner-up to Pokémon at making two nearly identical games that are slightly different lol Pokemon has version exclusives, HM/SoS just has boy and girl variants lol Silly Japan.
Story of Seasons Trio of Towns is EASILY my favorite game in the series. it's the only one that I have sunk literal thousands of hours into and repeatedly come back to play it again. Unfortunately it ruined sos fomt and poot for me. Just personal preferance but I hated the graphics and how little there was to do in fomt and poot just feels so.... Flat, 2d and dead compared to tot. My favorite aspect of these games is the relationship building, so that definitely lends to my love of tot and hate for poot. And for an unpopular opinion, tale of two towns is actually in my top 3.
I would have put magical melody in D lol. Just coz there's a lot to do when in comes to what it takes to get notes. The events suck, the characters suck. And it was SO boring. The only thing I respected about it was how annoyingly challenging it took to even marry someone; having to befriend the parent, and work hard to upgrade the house. But it was sooo boring. Apart from the farming, nothing really was exciting and nothing to really look forward to. I don't see what people like about it as popular of a title it is. It's so bland
Animal Parade will forever be my favorite. FoMT and it’s remaster, abslolutly love cause it was my first HM/SoS, so nostalgia. And agreed, Trio of Town is S for sure. I’ve been disappointed in PoOT because it was a step down imo. 😢
I’ve only played island of happiness and lost valley yet love the harvest moon franchise. I remember thinking lost valley was meh but when I found out it wasn’t made by the original harvest moon creators I felt cheated and dropped it. Island of happiness I love playing as a kid. Opening it up now and trying it again I realized it’s such a bad game
Your first HM games that you play will become the best experience. My first is Sunshine Island. Love it. Then bought HoLV. Didn't like it. Give it to my nephew. He spend hours in it.
You might hate me for this, but in the SOS: FoMT remake, I was so disappointed in the simple fact that you can’t just throw things away with a simple tap of a b button, and that really turned me off from the game. I only played about a month in game and I just couldn’t get over it. So much so that I bought the original for gba on Mercari afterwards and I was brought back to happy land. But you’re right, it is a faithful recreation. Everything is there and there’s even more stuff to do, but…. Man I need that b button throw away.
I loved how you rated each game and I agree with your S rates. I'm a HM fan since BTN on PlayStation and currently playing SOS:FOMT. Still contemplating on whether I should play SOS:PoOT but kinda hesitant since I found out they pretty much destroyed the pregnancy event. 🤦🏻♀️ I'm thinking of downloading a 3DS emulator and play ToT instead.
A Tale of Two Towns is my most-played HM title. Very relaxing, and the concept of the two towns' rivalry was actually very fresh. I liked it because the player helps to change the hateful relationship into more of a friendly rivalry, and you can see that the characters become happier and kinder as the plot progresses. It was also interesting being forced to choose, because there was really NO WAY to have it all. Gameplay was next-level chill. Also, the characters are just so cute and charming. Ying and Rahi are the cutest little child-characters in my opinion, Cam is so sweet, and I love the friendships that evolve between villagers of different towns. Oh! And Alicia is suuuuuch a sweetheart. The game is simplicity and perfection, it is such a gentle and friendly game with such beautiful graphics, and even thinking about it is like pure serotonin for me :)
Definitely the absolute most underrated harvest moon, and arguably the most underrated farming sim. I adore this game
@@Dahcs I totally agree!!! I'm almost at year 4 in game and I've owned my copy for probably 8/9 years now! It's so rewarding to open that same save file and return to a safe, comforting environment!
not to mention there was a bigger purpose for the cooking function, loved collecting new recipes maxing out the stars on those recipes the only aggravation is when you get shafted from the luck in the competition even if you do amazing there's still rng with teammates

I love traditional Harvest Moon games because of the simplicity. Modern HM/SoS games need a lot more time to get used to. I played SoS and SoS: ToT on 3DS, and got bored by the looong intro scenes and tutorials. It really takes time for me to enjoy and appreciate the games. I like SoS: FoMT because it basically traditional HM game (HM FoMT) but with modern graphics and mechanics. Thanks, man. Great video. Will use it as a reference to try HM games that I haven't played

I have only played Pioneers of Olive town and the Friends of Mineral town.
I do agree with you that Friends of Mineral town is a better game than Pioneers, I wasn't expecting much from this game because of the chibis graphics and lack of player's customization... but the characters have a lot of depth and the game has lots of fun aspects and mechanics to discover and conquer.
I wish Pioneers of Olive town wasn't that inventive... They managed to get better graphics and customization that are lacking from Friends of Mineral town, yet they removed the all the essence that makes the characters interesting in the game... making it a more "farm game" with less of the "date simulation" stuff... (yet a strange decision, since their DLCs are all about more characters to marry).
Pioneers of Olive town is a pretty farm simulator yet with tons of souless characters and and has no secrets to uncover xD
I LOVE sosfomt my only complaints is they could’ve add more stuff from BTN, like tomato festival, Harvest Goddess festival, plus some extra events. It would’ve made it more livelier, they could also finally bring back Greg, Louis (Chu) and Kano on screen too, instead of just have characters mentioning their existence
If somebody modded Back to Nature with two features it would be a perfect game. 1) Make the hot house invincible. 2) Make the horse rideable everywhere.
The graphics are fine just leave it alone after that.

My S tiers would be Friends of Mineral Town (any version) /Back to Nature and Animal Parade. Hero of Leaf Valley is ALMOST S for me, but not quite
I wish they’d remake some of the other HM games like N64, Animal Parade, Magical Melody and give them the same love as Friends of Mineral Town

Im biased because I havent played every single game but A Wonderful Life, Magical Melody, & Trio of Towns will always be my favs. They're just so damn good and I've sunk so many hours of my life into them
harvest moon fomt's ost is what keeps on pulling me in because i have a fascination for retro games' osts and it's very nostalgic. i remember watching my uncle play it on his gameboy while i watch beside him before going to sleep

my one complain about Trio of Town is the inventory UI, its a nightmare to explore, and once you start to get a high number of resources, its pure pain to manage, i would've liked better if they used the old icon menu system, like older titles like FoMT or Rune Factory uses.

I have to agree with you about the Trio of towns. That was the very first Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon game I ever played and I really loved it! I was considering giving this series a try for a long time. Even asked a few of my friends about and most of them said that I wouldn't like it all that much. Due to the fact I'm a major horror fanatic and play games like RE8, Fatal Frame, and Silent Hill. I was even told that it was basically Chores the game.
But I gave Trio of towns a try and fell in love with how relaxing and fun it actually was. Now I look forward to new ones that come out. I would give the older games a try if they weren't so pricy to get and I knew how emulators worked. ^^;
There's a DS ROM cartridge called 208 games in one that has all the rf and harvest moon DS games as well as many rpgs. Mine is older and only plays on old 3ds and won't play on my new 2dsxl. You can play it on mobile and probably pc with a separate emulator too which is nice.
In regards to the FoMT remake for Switch: I absolutely agree with you. I played the original FoMT as a teenager and, while there were changes made that I didn't like or agree with (ie.: the change in certain character designs, though mainly just Ann/Ran's & the Kappa's; the new marriage candidates, the star-quality crop system; the dumbed-down cooking; etc.), I've been playing it and it's a *great* remake. There was clearly a lot of love, care, and consideration put into it, and many of the changes and new features just make it even more worthwhile to play. I love that you can marry whichever bachelor/bachelorette you want regardless of your character's gender; I like the new animal types; I like that you can now access characters like Van & Ruby/Lou w/out having to link a GBA to a Gamecube; I like that Cliff can come back & stay in town even if you miss the initial window (which I ended up doing); the music's new renditions are even better to listen to; etc.

Absolutely agree that Trio of Towns is one of the best modern Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons Game.
When I played PoVT, I was just.... disappointed with (most of) everything bcs Trio of Town is sooo wonderful, culture-rich, even you have a lot of late-game missions and many more. I still hardly move on from Trio of Town despite stellar animation and graphic PoVT has offered.

based trio of towns opinion, while it might not be my #1 (animal parade has my heart forever) it is objectively the best HM/SOS game for its gameplay , charm, and just stuff to do. it's the best overall package. also i bought pioneers of olive town and hated it but seeing you put it so high makes me want to try it again

My very first was Friends in mineral town it was the most coolest for me. Basically, sums up my summer during my childhood days. I miss those days.

I absolutely agree with those S tier, with a little exception. i actually going to put Animal Parade on S tier for the story, gameplay, cutscenes and for having the best Bachelor of all the series (imho) 😂
also, Island of Happiness is bad, but it deserves a D Rank because the story and cutscenes are quite good.
also, i'll put all the Natsume's games mostly on E and D. i did play those titles and all of them suck.

I think one of the only things I disagree with on this list is that I actually kind of liked skytree village and some of the differences they were going for. I think the intro to veggies becoming different based on where they were planted was clever. My issue with all of these were the fact that the characters are the same in each of the three natsume games before one world. Which I have not played yet.
I wish you had included rune factory in here too where you did spin offs. Which I actually love more than harvest moon myself, but definitely carry a different vibe. They are first and foremost still harvest moon games. It would have been neat to see them placed in the mix.
I love TOT so much! There so much depth in the characters and it was worth getting the hearts of the villagers up. I loved how they’d offer to let you eat lunch with them once your friendship level was high enough. And how the stores would be closed during storms so you had make sure you had food for your animals and how they would be horrified if you came to their house during a storm. And the way you could message your family or how they would visit!! When I played POoT it felt like a dead town compared to TOT.

A New Beginning is #1 in my heart but I also really liked Tale of Two Towns and Pioneers of Olive Town
I disagree about Story Of Seasons FOMT being a faithful remake of the original, and I think it's pretty inferior and I'll list why:
- removed marriages from rivals, which was pretty cool in the original game for you to know that the other characters were successful in the game.
- animals don't die, ridiculous. In the original FOMT you needed to be careful to take care of them, it was real.
- the heart system with the cows and sheep is simply disastrous, as your animal that has always been with you will never reach 8-10 hearts, it doesn't reward the time you've treated your animal.
Did you notice that my complaints don't say anything about the graphics? That's what a FOMT fan thinks about the remake. The original FOTM easily deserves an S, it's one of if not the best Harvest Moon game ever made, to this day I keep thinking how a game so well done, so complete it fits inside the GBA cartridge, the remake is a C per have taken very good things out of the original that made sense in the game. But I want to thank you for the video, you showed games that aroused me a lot of interest in playing, like Trio Of Towns and New Beginning, I didn't have the opportunity to play because I didn't have 3ds. I recently put my island of happiness on my tablet and can appreciate it more there because I don't keep trying to use the buttons, lol. Innocent life was a favorite because of the adventure elements.

I wanted to buy a new Story of Seasons games since I only played the ones before the Marvelous and Natsume split specifically DS, Island of Happiness and Tale of Two Towns (3DS version).
I have been thinking buying a newer game after the split but I couldn't decide.
The Switch games have mixed ratings specially Pioneers of Olive Town so I am having a hard time if I should pick the Switch games or the last game S.O.S. game for the 3DS, Trio of Towns.
I have been thinking back and forth if I should get it (Trio of Towns) or the newer Switch titles (Doraemon, Friends of Mineral remake or Pioneers...) . But I already played Harvest Moon A Tale of Two Towns so I was thinking twice.
I am surprised that you gave it a very high rating. In fact, I couldn't see a review of it from IGN or other big video gaming sites so I was doubtful if it's a good game. But with your vlog, I will grab it now before the retail version runs out of stock here in the Philippines.

I loved popo lol crois for the story because it was a sequel to the psp game but it was way too easy even on hard mode right up until the last boss battles. The farming was cute but more Farmville than harvest moon/sos. I did buy it when the eShop had a sale for $6, though.

i would definitly put BTN over n64. and I played both versions. It because n64 use cartridge so load time was faster compared to PSX CD
I was looking for a video like this, very informative, but one critique I'd give is that if you've played the game on the channel before, you should have some footage of each game to overlay while you talk.
It'd increase your editing time significantly, but it would definitely make it a lot easier to follow the entire video.

Great list and agree with just about everything. The only thing that saves IoH from E tier for me is that Town theme. Just will hit it on TH-cam and get lost in it. Never actually in the game though, those controls are horrible!

I really love Harvest Moon 3 (GBC). Being able to trade with other farms in the GBC games (as well as the Legend of the River King games!) was a neat addition too, since I liked LotRK2.
Very happy to see that A New Beginning made it to A rank, its a fantastic game that i dont see nearly enough people talk about. For me personally, it would be an S rank, no question. It's my absolute favorite game out of all the games in both series. I've put well over 1000 hours into the game, and just started a new playthrough a few days ago so i can enjoy the game all over again. I only have one single issue with the game and that's how slow the first month is. But the game really opens up once you unlock the workshop

I also own Magical Melody, but haven’t played it yet. And I plan to get Animal Parade at some point + the SoS: FoMT remake as well. AND I’m super pumped for AWL’s remake!
Harvest moon friend/more friend of mineral town is the only harvest moon game that I played, I liked it. And I love the remake of it, compare to the og, it's better in any aspect in my op and more friendly overall.
I tried the Harvest moon PSP and god knows I hate it. The art style and control trigger me so much. I prefer the 2-2.5D play style in harvest moon better

I remember Island of Happiness...turned me off buying new HM games for years and missed out on the good ones. I completely missed Animal Parade and regret not picking that up back then. Harvest Moon 64 was my first game mom bought with the N64, played it so much, my only gripe was that I wish there was just a little more time to each day. I'm still playing HM64, its in my N64 right now in my office setup. S++ rank. SoS Trio is in one of my 3ds and PoOT competes with RF5 on the switch. Pretty sure I didn't buy another HM game after Island of Happiness until SoS. Looking forward to an SoS: Animal Parade remake on the switch fingers crossed.
I've never played a farming sim, but it's about time. I just bought a 2DS, so I'm looking at DS, 3DS, and eShop options. Game length doesn't matter to me. Probably the shorter the better, actually. I definitely want romance/marriage options. What do you think?
For 3DS HM options, I would completely recommend HM A New Beginning and Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns (although Trio of Towns is longer rather than shorter). You can get married in both these games and IMO they are some of the better 3DS HM games

Thanks for the video! My gf loves Harvest Moon it's the only game she will play, she says it's OG (compared to stardew and what not). I bought a switch and got her Light of Hope and she loved it. Eventually I bought her Friends of Mineral Town and now she loves that! However, I often work out of town and I take the Switch with me. I feel bad. Is there a comparable game you would recommend that I could get on either the PS4/PS5 or Xbox S or even PC that you think she would enjoy? I doubt it will work, as she tends to play the games laying down and falls asleep with the game running all the time lol.
As far as PS4 or PS5, there is honestly a lack of Harvest Moon games and even related games to it. It has Light of Hope, Mad Dash, One World, and online for PS2 it has A Wonderful Life: Special Edition. Aside from Stardew Valley, other highly recommended related games would be My Time at Portia and Graveyard Keeper
I would argue that Hero of Leaf Valley is an A at least but I played the crap out of it as a BTN fanboy so I say it's an S tier game. I agree with the rest of your list.
Because GBA/C and N64 games were before the time I was "allowed" to play video games, Story of Seasons Trio of Towns is hands-down my favorite video game in the series.
I stalled out in SoS: Doraemon. It's been over a year since I stopped playing, but I really enjoyed it for a while and put in a lot of hours. Then I hit this wall where, if I recall right, I needed to do a bunch of mining to make any more progress (or possibly to make certain items), and it got so tedious and seemed never ending, especially because I didn't want to do the game reloading tricks to save my stamina to make it further down.
You sir are too generous regarding Pioneers of Olive Town. The game suffers major framerate issue that even a peaceful tone couldn't save it. If that's the only issue, i'll be glad to overlook the weakness. However, what put me off the most was the villagers. I feel like they are just random faceless npc that are scripted to constantly give lecture about farming and general stuffs. Aside from gameplay tips, they said either too little or too much about their opinions and aspirations. Some people keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. They rarely seen interacting with the environment as a normal human being, as most of the time you'll only see them work, eat, then sleep like bots. Not to mention the festivals are mostly cutscenes, albeit fun, they are not as interactive as say FoMT.
However i gotta admit that the farming side of the game is a step up from previous entries. I love they added moles to the mine. I love that you gradually unlock more stuff as you expand your farm. I love the decoration mechanic. They were the sole reason i was able to put about 20 hours in the game.
I'll personally put it at low B and no higher. And i actually enjoyed Tale of Two Towns and Rune Factory games much more than Olive Town.

Interesting list. Many of the games you gave an A rating were for aspects of the game that made me give it a D rating. I have been playing series since the SNES, so it is interesting to see other people's opinions. Also, the S rated games I would also put lower, but only because I never enjoyed playing them.

I disagree with some of your opinions here and there, but really like that you don't just brush off one world and light of hope as "bad" games. LoH isnt anything new or amazing but I enjoyed it too. And I thought one world was lots of fun, and shows natsume is getting better with their hm titles. Werent bad games at all

I love the remake of Friends of Mineral Town. And that's coming from someone that started their HM journey with that game on the GBA. The game I played the most out of all my GBA games. Even played it on the big screen in my GBA player for years and years after!
Me playing friends of mineral town on the switch made me actually play all the harvest moon games my sister played growing up. So i walked into friends of mineral on gba like “holly crap I love both the gba and the switch versions”
Why do so many people give harvest moon 64 a legendary status? It's a good game and the social/relationship system is superior in many ways to the other games after ,but it also lacked alot of things found in games like back to nature and friends of nature making them about the same rating on that aspect anyways. The farming system sucks on the 64 mainly because of the menu system and it's just average after that nothing new from the old games infact I'd even say hm gbc 3 has a better farming system (though it's way too easy) should I dare? It also had clunky fishing, sprite relationship system was kind of bad compared to later games, alot of glitched (I really think they rushed to release this game) and many of the landscapes are very basic and suck. If they fixed these issues and took more time making this game I would be so much better.❤️👍
It was mindblowing at the time. Going back to it....that's another story. Most n64 games have unfortunately not aged very well IMO. I'd say that BTN was the superior version but I didn't play it until later so the nostalgia factor makes it hard to be objective.
Iight of hope gets hate cause of the grooming with Soleil. Also it was published on console before mobile and they obviously was planning on releasing it on mobile. I've played it through for an opinion.
My only problem on SoS:FoMT is the characters art design. Majority of all the designs are meh, that is the reason why I did not buy the game.
My problem on Tales of Two Town is you cannot save everywhere. You need to go to your bedside table to save your progress and that’s kinda meh to me.

As I think, the seeds of memories is a great HM series for iOS. At least the game is totally manageable n' all of the features are much enjoyable relatively to other series of HM or the Story of seasons. Overall, I never get regret that I come back from those old days n' chip in for the game. 🐮🐶🐔💖😘

One world and Light of hope should not be C list tier. They weren’t even trying in those games def belongs in the E bin (trash). A Wonderful Life should be S tier, should never be an A tier. That game had one of the best stories and it really outshined what the older games have done.
tale of two towns have been on and off my e shop wishlist for a while, mainly because while watching gameplay for it the text box sound hurts my ears, I have seen a review about it where the girl explains how insane it was every single thing you did the hm goddess was there to pop up and congratulate you and how during all rainy days every shop is closed except the outdoor flower shop, and you never get the ingredients you need for the cooking festivals either. I have read a lot of reviews on it and a lot of people hate it, it's a mixed bag because there are some people that enjoy the game. It was part of my wishlist because I wanted to experience a traditional hm game. It looked interesting with the storyline and the marriage candidates looked like good ones as well, and the art of the game looked nice too. Is it worth getting overall? or just stick with getting trio of towns and a new beginning? Also I am surprised you love a new beginning considering I watched quite a bit of your gameplay with it and you always sounded like you wanted to burn the game due to constant annoyances you were experiencing with it.
TTOTT is my first Harvest Moon game, picked it up last week... It's really neat I don't regret it! The criticism you described is fair and there are many things I find frustrating but personally I really like the DS aesthetic over the 3d models of the newer entries
@@NuriaLuque98 the 3d version is the only version on the e shop. The storyline seems good overall with great characters to befriend and know which I like. I like the style of it from what I have seen in the photos on e shop it has that original style old school harvest moon . So yes there are things I like and am cautious about but unfortunately there aren't much gameplay on it on TH-cam but it is what it is. What do you like about the game so far? Is it your first harvest moon/story of seasons game overall? Or first harvest moon game only?
I have Animal Parade but I don't think I gave it a fair shake. Seems like a lot of people like it! After Tree of Tranquility I was a bit disappointed and assumed the next Wii title would be similar.

Story of Seasons Trio of Towns is EASILY my favorite game in the series. it's the only one that I have sunk literal thousands of hours into and repeatedly come back to play it again. Unfortunately it ruined sos fomt and poot for me. Just personal preferance but I hated the graphics and how little there was to do in fomt and poot just feels so.... Flat, 2d and dead compared to tot. My favorite aspect of these games is the relationship building, so that definitely lends to my love of tot and hate for poot.
And for an unpopular opinion, tale of two towns is actually in my top 3.
I would have put magical melody in D lol. Just coz there's a lot to do when in comes to what it takes to get notes. The events suck, the characters suck. And it was SO boring. The only thing I respected about it was how annoyingly challenging it took to even marry someone; having to befriend the parent, and work hard to upgrade the house. But it was sooo boring. Apart from the farming, nothing really was exciting and nothing to really look forward to. I don't see what people like about it as popular of a title it is. It's so bland
Animal Parade will forever be my favorite. FoMT and it’s remaster, abslolutly love cause it was my first HM/SoS, so nostalgia. And agreed, Trio of Town is S for sure. I’ve been disappointed in PoOT because it was a step down imo. 😢

I’ve only played island of happiness and lost valley yet love the harvest moon franchise. I remember thinking lost valley was meh but when I found out it wasn’t made by the original harvest moon creators I felt cheated and dropped it. Island of happiness I love playing as a kid. Opening it up now and trying it again I realized it’s such a bad game

You might hate me for this, but in the SOS: FoMT remake, I was so disappointed in the simple fact that you can’t just throw things away with a simple tap of a b button, and that really turned me off from the game. I only played about a month in game and I just couldn’t get over it. So much so that I bought the original for gba on Mercari afterwards and I was brought back to happy land. But you’re right, it is a faithful recreation. Everything is there and there’s even more stuff to do, but…. Man I need that b button throw away.

I loved how you rated each game and I agree with your S rates. I'm a HM fan since BTN on PlayStation and currently playing SOS:FOMT. Still contemplating on whether I should play SOS:PoOT but kinda hesitant since I found out they pretty much destroyed the pregnancy event. 🤦🏻♀️ I'm thinking of downloading a 3DS emulator and play ToT instead.
