As I said in a recent video, like two months ago, I lost my drone.
Here’s the follow up - I FOUND IT!
On a Sunday, I lost my drone. I looked for it, and didn’t find it. I looked so hard in fact, that I fell, banged my leg into a rock, and ended up needing 5 stitches.
Monday I couldn’t do very much. Bruised, tired, bad mood; I basically pretended to work and cursed my foolishness all day.
Tuesday, however, I was a little better.
In the morning on Tuesday my girlfriend told me she’ll leave work a little earlier and we’ll go back where I lost the drone to try find it.
I called a friend to see if he’d be up for it too, and he was, so armed with some rope, a scythe (yeah, a scythe), and some sensible walking shoes for him, we set off. I didn’t take sensible shoes because I still had fresh stitches in, so all I could do was stay next to to the car and yell directions.
Now, of course, I did have the GPS coordinates of where the drone went missing. It’s just that the GPS coordinates were slap bang in the middle of trees, bushes, high grass, rubble walls and smallish cliffs which I definitely couldn’t climb up, not with my leg still throbbing every time I put any weight on it.
So I told my friend Brandon, ‘OK, you see this wall? The drone is exactly in line with that wall, between 80 and 130 metres away. Now go!”
    And off he went.
I paced around nervously, looking into my binoculars, because of course I took binoculars with me, and wasn’t very hopeful at all, although glad to be hobbling around in the fresh air and really quite amused by how comically tragic this whole thing had turned.
And then, I hear a yell, and my phone pings. And I get this video.
    I WAS JUST BLOWN AWAY.
You should have seen me hobble towards Brandon, yelling and laughing.
Two minutes later Brandon climb down, drone in hand, and it’s amazing, it looks just fine.
No broken propellers. No lens damage. No gimbal damage. Even the battery wasn’t swollen. It just looked like a brand new drone which had laid in a field for a couple of nights.
At this point I called my girlfriend to tell her the happy news and that, yeah baby, don’t bother coming at all because there’s no point, WE FOUND IT!
Half an hour later I’m home, I switch out the battery, take it down to the street, and the drone flies just perfectly. SD card out, pulled my pics off of it, and gave the bird a wipe down and packed it safely.
So, I learned an additional lesson from this drone debacle - never give up. Unless you see your drone land in the water that is. If that’s the case, yeah, you’re screwed.
And any the way, I renamed my drone now. Seemed only fitting to me that since my friend who found it is called Brandon, that I should christen the newly rediscovered bird ‘Brandrone’
Brandrone has been flying high with no issues ever since, and expect a whole lot more drone footage from me soon.
