"The Bible is not like the Koran, seemingly dropped from heaven". This is pure gold.

And if it didn't come from heaven [ the direct infallible supernatural mind of God transmitted by those He chose to write down the actual words H wanted them to write] then you wind up the fairy tale tradition of the Orthodox. How do the Orthodox believe that what they have now is all there is? We could find some more traditional stuff to be found under a rock somewhere. As you listen to what this man believes it is amazing the contradictions that is disclosed in his speech. He believes the bible yet obviously [as his logic goes] Jesus said stuff that isn't in the bible so---so -- what ? Now we try to find in some traditional teaching what other stuff is important about what Christ may or may not have said. Are you kidding me? Based on this kind of human reasoning we can never have any foundation on what to believe. If you remember the main problem Christ had with the Jews was their "tradition" Matthew 15:1-9. Your tradition is eld above the word of God. The "so called Pentateuch" is word for word from God's mind to the paper through the mind of Moses. And nothing of Supernatural spiritual relevance is left out.

@@bobwood5146 The Quran didn't come from heaven because it cites known pre-Quranic sources like the Talmud in Surah 5:32, the Infancy Gospel of Thomas in Surah 5:110, plagiarizes Alexander the Great story from the Syriac Alexander Legend , borrows from Gnostic sources in Surah 4:157 (see the Second Treatise of the Great Seth dated to the 3rd century). Ubayy ibn Ka'b says through Aisha that 2/3 of Surah 33 is missing. The Quran claims to be from heaven, so what was Allah doing for all eternity thinking about Muhammad being annoyed by dinner guests in Surah 33:53? But it gets better because the Quran affirms the authority of the bible in verses like Surah 5:46-47 and Surah 3:3-4. So when Muslims condemn our scriptures, they are parting with early Muslims on this issue.

An excellent apologist for Jesus Christ and Christianity.

Thank you so very much. I am blown away by Fr. Thomas' devotion to the Gospel, to the accuracy of Christ. All glory to God. I'm a protestant and never have I felt such assurance, except when I read Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan. Lord please have mercy on me, I am a prisoner to myself, locked in darkness, afraid to step here or there. Where to now....?

Once you get to home, you will have no fears anymore. Home is where everyone feels safe. And the step would be to step into the Orthodox Church building and take it from there. Welcome.

Current Protestant attending my local Orthodox Church to learn and experience. Very much prefer listening to this over hard debates, EO vs RC or Prot. Debates always leave me feeling empty, the discourse turns ugly and nothing seems edifying. No love and the enmity continues.
The Parrish priest recommended Mr. Hopko’s books and a women in the congregation lent me one.
Thank you for posting these talks, edifying and informative for an inquirer.

Forgive me for I am much less studied than Father Hopko, but I believe he meant to say that Paul didn’t quote from the New Testament, instead of what he said being that he didn’t ever quote Jesus, since Paul does quote Jesus when he explained the Eucharist in 1 cor 11, quoting Jesus as saying “this is My body…” etc.
Again forgive me for my stupidity
