Are you doing it on a public server? If so it sometimes takes a little bit before it shows up in your inbox, depending on the connection to the host. So I would either try another server or host your own for that.
I knew about these for quite a while only a little bit after starting, but it defeats a good amount of reason to play the game so I just chose not to use it. I even reverted my save file after recording this, but it's up to other people whether or not they want to use it, I just like looking for glitches.
The method I just mentioned was actually patched in the recent update, instead you can go into a public or "code-only" lobby and mail the fish to yourself, then just select deny instead of accept on the letter.
@@shortdak1541 Ah okay, seems the letter system is just kind of buggy in general, if you try on an offline world the mail just never sends and gets rid of the item.

Whenever i try to send a letter to myself the letter dosent go in my inbox, it just disapears :(

Turns out this happens every time when you are in an offline world, if you want to do this while solo choose the "code-only" option instead.

You can go into an offline lobby and mail them to yourself, that should delete them.

@@Vexadros yeah sorry it works! turn's out there is a bug in the game that can just randomly happen. bug makes your letters disappear in the void.
