How can the CAA get it THIS WRONG?

  • Hey everyone! As drone users, we are expected to get it right every single flight. So we should certainly expect the same of the airspace regulator who holds us to such a high account. Today, we will discuss some shocking advice provided by the CAA in an effort to ensure they are held to account in the same way all airspace users are and should be. Join Sean for the live show or catch the replay and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

    Scary thought, the CAA don't even understand their own complicated, over regulation⚠️🤔😲😳
    What a surprise! 😂😅

    This is done to create confusion and mistakes, so someone at CAA or above can force stricter rules with the excuse harder guidelines are needed to avoid confusion..
    This isn't an error it's a clever move.

    As far as I am concerned, the CAA is not fit for purpose, at least as far as hobbyist drones are concerned. They have less idea than most drone pilots and they have no business regulating us.

      This is 100% how it should be done. when i worked for a large medical company if we EVER sent anything external it would be looked at by a colleague before sending to ensure the content was correct. Shocking for the CAA to get this wrong.

    I saw this same post on the DronesUK group, and advised the person that the advice they got was bogus and that they were legal to fly, and got a lot of pushback from other users who assert that the CAA should always be listened to and never questioned.
    Sadly, the attitude of a lot of people in the drone community makes this situation a lot worse, who are insistent on obsessively policing every picture and video people take and advising people to follow bad advice. The community will only remain healthy and drone flying a viable hobby IMO if people fight their corner when given bad advice and push back. I understand that over regulation bothers people, but giving in to every request to not fly when you're legally allowed to, and listening to bad advice doesn't stop excessive regulation, it invites more.

      I've noticed that on the same site.... I spent the last 7 years trying to get my head around the regs as they changed from doing my PFco in almost the last week it was "valid" and ever since watched the confusion and rule changes with a growing sense of disbelief. Knee jerk after Gatwick etc. At least someone coming into Drone ownership and hobby flying now (and lets face it, most will be going for a sub 250) have a steep learning curve initially, but shouldn't be having to change direction and learn new rules in the same way as I did since 2017!
      It is obvious to me tho that many of those posting haven't yet got their head about the rules...including some of the advice, me included!

    • @Shane-Phillips
      @Shane-Phillips 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If you go back to the group even now, there are people more annoyed at Sean than seem to be taking issue with the terrible advice, it's a very odd community with some questionably perverse attitudes to drone regulation.

    it's sad that toys so hyper regulated.
    Stay away from people and aircraft is all that's required. If your toy weighs less than 1Kg (that's 2 pounds of butter, not really dangerous).

    Hello both of you
    Do you not find incompetence in people of authority really infuriating. Whatever the rules are we drone flyers should be given the correct information. Sean, people making mistakes is not really a good excuse under these circumstances. Does no one check their advice?

  • @lindsayheyes925
    @lindsayheyes925 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This is incredibly incompetent from the CAA. If this is how they advise the Police, this advice could result in wrongful arrest and criminal prosecution of a pilot. It's just appalling. Does the authority itself not have a decision-tree or flowchart for answering questions?
    OMG. I have no more words.

  • @edcbabc
    @edcbabc 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This is probably a consequence of the rules being over complex, structured to make browsing them difficult and rather distributed. What they should do I guess is simply to answer such questions by referring the questioner to the relevant sections in the appropriate documents, rather than trying to (incorrectly) paraphrase them. Though possibly they cannot find their way round their own documents.
    More pertinently, what news is there of the next set of tablets of stone following the consultation last winter?

  • @NatJB
    @NatJB 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I've never known a hobby that causes so much confusion, heartache and fear of prosecution. Flying with my PPL is easier than flying a remote controlled piece of plastic. When I pitch up to fly from an airfield I'm never concerned about the rules. They are clear and I know all limitations. When I occasionally decide to fly my drone it just causes anxiety. Absolutely ridiculous! I don't see the attraction anymore.

    I brought up the rotor riot thing weeks and weeks ago, I read unusual machines and red cats white paper to share holders. It’s more than them just building fpv strike drones. They are working on a USA made flight controller/ESC’s using funding from the chips act. So it might be a good thing even for us, because this China -amid that the governments have is only gonna get worse and no company in the UK is going to making flight controllers. Trying to get fpv parts just now is a nightmare. Especially at reasonable cost, imagine what it’s going to be like with more regulations. It’s 150 pound for an iflight f7 stack just now, IF can find them.

  • @leet3707

    I MUST defend the CAA on this during recent phone contact.
    I've recently emailed you regarding an irrational and unreasonable neighbour claiming harassment who himself flies model aircraft but doesn't like Drone flying 'trash'.
    From the first day of flight, he's made it clear he doesn't want a drone flying by 1) making false allegations of flying a Section 16 Aircraft over residential areas 2) flying without CAA Authorisation 3) invading privacy (camera not even on) 4) endangering an Air Ambulance taking off at 400 metres away and finally 5) now accused of harassment by flying behind our 8 foot fences as he lives 3 doors down. At what point is "alarm and distress" as defamatory WhatsApp messages were being posted even hovering in our garden.
    I spoke to the CAA at 8:30am the morning after the Drone was seized after the police officer made a big issue of flying less than 18m and part the reason they took it. Listened to his sob story and taken Drone.
    The response I got on the phone WAS 100% accurate in telling me a sub 250 was unrestricted in distance to buildings and uninvolved others.
    It's a mistake by an individual and although not good, a defence in court would win.
    The lady I spoke to was extremely sympathetic and helpful and they offered to send a letter for future use. They even suggested they would have intervened if I'd known the police were coming but cannot now get involved.
    This week I had team leader of Lancashire police Drone unit call round over events that happened for an informal meeting.
    Give them some slack as I have no complaints over the help I received from the CAA.

    Sub 250. What about uk privacy laws and GDPR. How close can you fly to buildings with windows. Can you fly over built up areas shopping centres etc

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Privacy and GDPR factor in far less than you might expect. Certainly, a drone should not be flown to look in windows. The main time it would be an issue, when flying in public, is if the flight is for commercial reasons.

    Just as worrying is the fact that authority figures will lock on to the wrong information provided by this post and take it as gospel. I wonder how many of us will have this thrown in our faces if the situation arises as often does when dealing with the lack of knowledge from the authorities. Several times I've tried to educate them and finally decided to pack up my gear and move on just because of the effort it takes trying not to argue with an idiot. Stupid posts like this will only ever empower the KAREN's we encounter. #DisapoiintingCAA 🤔😪
