This is SOOO much like how my mornings start. In the past I have used paper that the students get each morning. Mainly I couldn't figure out how to keep them from writing on EVERY stinking page... duh! binder clips! LOL Thank you Greg!
Thanks for sharing! I have three questions: That time between when children arrive and morning meeting is short; do the students who eat breakfast have time to do this writing, and do you have time to check in with each student about their writing before morning meeting? The next question: for those students who have significant fine motor delays ( perhaps on IEP for fine motor), how do they earn their journal? I would think students who struggle with fine motor and writing their name might become frustrated if they see their peers with journals, but haven't yet earned their journal. I like the idea of using it as a morning activity because arrival time can be so busy if students can't be independent with an activity. I've used journals in the past as an activity after recess, as a way to get students calm from high energy activities.
I love this! My problem is we have kids who never get to their name practice because they either come in late or they eat breakfast and take the whole time eating.
Greg! I am PUMPED to be teaching kindergarten next year. My Pre-K class is already speckled with your tips. Quick question about early finishers when writing name or journaling. What is your procedure? Thanks!
Hi Mr. Greg!! My name is Morgan a freshman this year at college who signed up for Bio Med as a major but I'm really considering about changing my major to Elementary Education. I love color and I love to be creative. I'm just an artsy person but I have some intetest in science. I don't know what to do. Do you think you could give me pointers or tell me more about elementary education. I would really appreciate it. Thank you and your video inspires me and one of my close friends. 😊
On their first day do you give them paper to write their name to see who can write? Or you start with tracing for all? How will you differentiate in first day itself? As some of them can write their name and some of them can?
I wish I could be a kindergartener again in Mr. Greg's class because he makes kindertgarten learning FUN
Love it

What do you do if they are done early with their journal?
How long is morning work? What do you with early finishers?
