As an ex smoker if i was going for a meal i would eat inside but if i wanted to eat outside i expect that there will be smokers eating outside that is why they chose not to eat inside so i would not moan about it. I am off to Derby next week to visit family i think i will have to try those fisn n chips they looked nice although the fish does not look very thick more batter than fish

I’m 74 years old but I’m sorry to report that I have never had Fish and Chips. In Chicago everyone loves pizza, beef sandwiches and burgers. But after watching this video, I’m dying for some Fish and Chips! I think I might book a flight to the UK before the summer sun disappears.

Having a cuppa with it makes me miss my 93 year old gran, we would share a fish chips and peas over a brew 😊 I will 100% have to visit her and do it again after this road trip in a few months 😊 less batter on the fish for me 🎉 as for the cig.. Whether it's outside seating or not, it's a part of human decency to not smoke at the same tables where food is being consumed. If I was a smoker I'd feel absolutely embarassed smoking at a table where other people are eating. Absolutely vile. People are far too seflish.
I really love it at Matlock Bath Lee... I've visited here on many occasions over the years... The area is outstandingly beautiful... We used to go camping just down the road when we were kids... And loved popping into Matlock Bath for Fish & Chips... Also we would spend quite a few hours in the various amusement arcades... Then in the evening we would go for a few drinks in the Boat House Pub further down... Also i remember visiting Riber Castle before it sadly closed down... And then when i got my first motorcycle... My biker friends and i would ride here at every opportunity... I've had Fish & Chips at both the Riverside Fish & Chip Bar... And at the Promenade Fish Bar... Those were the only two we used to visit... We were always put off by Charle's mate... As i think it was this place that used to have a very pushy guy trying to get people who were just walking past... To go into theirs to eat... And he just wouldn't take no for an answer... Following people down the street who had already said no... He was a real pest... So we made it a point never to visit here pal... So i couldn't tell you what their Fish & Chips were like... But the other two places serve great Fish & Chips... Many thanks for the trip down memory lane Lee... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺

We later found out that the woman identified as a non smoker so we are all good!
Smoked cod dilemma. No grannies were harmed. The fish, to me looked somewhat lacking in fish and overladen with batter. As you alluded to, I suspect it had been in the warmer for far too long. Ages since I was in Matlock Bath, brought back many memories. Many thanks.

I think it is a serious offence. Why should me or my kids have to breath in those foul and disgusting fumes. I feel sick when I smell fag smoke 🚬 it's that disgusting. Why should I have to put up with that?

Here in Australia we can’t smoke in any outside areas -cafes, restaurants and even in some streets. Having visited the UK I certainly noticed the difference with your laws. A beautiful little town and always love seeing the English countryside-fish and chips…not great!

Here in the UK, so many people seem to smoke. Its not the 1950's, we now know how vile and dangerous it is. It baffles me people still do it.

I'm with you on the smoking thing, whilst I know its outside, when you are eating its absolutely horrible someone smoking nearby when you are trying to enjoy your food. Love your videos, watch every day! Some more travel would be good, enjoy seeing your face when you have crap airline food or overpriced airport cardboard. Sorry mate, I think you’ve got that one wrong you said in a previous video people should be given the choice of cash or card I agree people should be given a choice, that smokers choice has been taken away ,so legally sat outside. You had a choice to sit inside or outside. I am a non-smoker and when I sit outside to eat, I accept the fact that somebody who’s had their choice taken away to smoke in the pub might be outside. I personally think there should be pubs that you can smoke in. and pubs that you can’t, and then as you have said in previous videos, you have a choice. Like I said I am a non-smoker so I’m not defending smokers. God knows how they can afford it.

It looked pretty good to me but the fish could have been whiter. Matlock and Matlock Bath get very busy at weekends because it’s very scenic.
i used to go as a nipper , remember the illuminations on the river ? took my kids there and wound them up about having a drink out of THE FISH POND !
Lee the fish and chips WERE WARMED UP and the BATTER was CRISP but Warmed up Not my choice 3/10.
I do watch all of your vids and mostly enjoy them, but, you can be a bit of a whinger at times. TBF the fish and batter didn't look that great. x

My goodness in the eighties that was where we all hung out on a Sunday on our motorbikes. Pull up, admire the bikes, fish and chips and then the fishpool pub for half a lager 😂. But there is a bit of a difference sitting next to someone puffing away, when they are already eating their meal at that place, compared to a park bench. Surely they can wait a few more minutes before they can spark up.

Smoking at the dinner table ... When I was in my late teens I had a girl friend who lived in a posh part of Berkshire, she had a lot of very posh friends, one was the daughter of an Air Vice Marshall, this girl was very excited when she learnt that Princess Margaret was to be a guest at a large dinner party they were holding, I saw her a week after the event, she wasnt impressed, the Princess smoked through the entire meal.
I absolutely agree with you about this. Smoking is a disgusting habit. And smokers are generally an inconsiderate lot who think they can pollute the air around others with their addiction. That woman was totally inconsiderate to be puffing away near you while you were eating, but it shows how little they care for others. Not surprising as they have no respect for themselves.

Our fave chippy on way home from away Rugby matches is the Whitby Whaler in Wetherby. Only problem is that there are so many players etc that we have to order when we start to head home but I dont think they are too bothered when there are usually 50 of us on the coach.
The fish looked poor, too dark and not much inside the batter.

I remember it being just one street but as you say it is a lovely place to visit, and especially with Crich Tramway Village being nearby as an added bonus 😉, as for the meal it looked ok except for the lack of fish in the batter, so really you've ended up Batter, chips & peas and added curry..maybe 5 out of 10 because it fills a gap.

Go to Nergiz Bakery and get a lamb shwarma on radford road in nottingham, choose to eat in and you get a really nice soup free of charge and the meal will cost at most £6 with drink. Authetic naan cooked in clay ovens
I grew up in Derbyshire not too far from Matlock. Have been there quite a few times, it was a really nice place to go in the summer as a kid, though I haven't been for a few years now, there seems to be a hell of a lot of chippies there nowadays, or maybe there always was, I can't remember.
The fish and chips looked nice enough to me really although not outstanding and much the same as anywhere else. To me personally, chips are very rarely as nice as they used to be years ago, I know some cafes do wonderful, golden brown chips, but not usually chip shops unfortunately. Nice video and nice to see Matlock again ... shame it wasn't sunny though.
As an ex smoker if I was eating out or if someone near me was eating I would always ask them first if they said they minded then I would either move or just wait until after but that was what I was taught manners thanks for sharing Lee that grub looked excellent a full ten from me 😊

you need to go to drakes fish and chips on scott hall road next to scott hall leisure center. There's one in harrogate but i remember going to this one as a kid and im 30 now, the batter was always good and from what i can remember over a year ago it still was! going to go again soon no doubt.

This smoking business is a contentious issue and always will be as smokers are allowed to smoke outside.Being a non smoker myself i would have moved tables. Being of a certain age, i remember when you went outside to avoid the smoke - now you go inside! I also note the comment someone said about diesel fumes and for that reason as well i would have moved inside.
