Just completed a byron bay to steep point via flinders ranges due to the Simpson being flooded on my drz400. I put an Anderson plug on my battery externally, mounted a bracket on the helmet locking thing. So I didn’t have to take it apart to access the battery to jump start. I cut the alligator clips off the jump pack. Made it easy to start when my battery died. Just a tip. Enjoy the trip.
We ran pool filter skins over the air filters up there. Quick, cheap and easy to rip one of every couple of days and replace with a new one. Enjoy the trip. It is a fantastic one.
great prep work looks like you have most things covered , would be easier if you had the same bike as your riding partner , not duplicating parts etc...he has a DR Zed and you have a DR Zee....American and Australian hopefully similar parts
Loving ur vids Josh! 🙏 went to Ormeau Hills yesterday and bummed it’s closed at all ends. Heading to Glassy today. Curious how that powerbank/ jump start gadget went? Looks like a beast. 👍 I’m testing an air inflator / powerbank myself.
Thanks mate That’s a shame, even off Upper Ormeau rd? I haven’t been up there in 6 months or so. The power bank in the tank bag went ok but I’m yet to find one that works really well. They get beat up from all the bouncing around on a bike. The jump start pack I have separately always works well. Didn’t need to use it on this trip luckily enough 👍🏼
@@_JoshJB_ yeah m8, both entrances, noticed someone may have moved a large rock intentionally near the upper Ormeau Rd entrance… 🤔… I ended up finding a decent track out of one of the new estates nearby, got my fix 👌

Hey, just wondering what navigation system you are using and do you recommend it? Do you have your eyes on any other models? Cheers thanks for the awesome videos!
@@eamonnlee99 yea mate it was fine up north. I got a couple of hotel rooms on my trip home as it got colder though. This time of year it would be fine though 👍🏼
Hi Josh, hope you have a great hassle free trip. What brand is the side stand plate and did you have to modify the stand to get it to fit? I'm having trouble sourcing one that doesn't require modding the stand.
Hi Josh Got myself a DRZ and was looking at your Kriega bag review In the first video you used three 12 Lt bags two on the sides and one on top When you set your bike up to do the Cape trip did you use two 18 Lt bags on the sides ?
@@_JoshJB_ Ah, okay. I ran 15-44 on mine for a bit but burned through my clutch pretty fast in a day of single-track... I found 14-44 or 15-47 to be a good all-rounder, but it still got real vibey up around 120km/h
I tried weighing it all for the video but my scales weren’t playing ball. I did weigh it all once boxed up. 8kg for the riding gear box. 27kg for the other. That’s including the 3 Kriega bags, tank bag and fender tool bag. It all adds up quick!
Hi how come you had two different number plates with totally different details on them? Here in the UK you get one plate and that's it for life unless you purchase a private plate. I'm confused!
everytime a vehicle is registered it gets a number plate so if you change states and register it in a different state you'll get a new number plate. if the vehicle is unregistered for 3 months it has to be reregistered and you get a new plate. you can also just pat a fee and change the plates and register a vehicle with new plates. it makes no difference as your name and vehicle details are tied to the number plate immediately at issue. the police have cameras that read the plate and all that info comes up on their screen.
@@6226superhurricaneFair enough, it seems a bit of a farce having to do all that but if that's the process, then that's the process. Thankfully we don't have to change our plates here in the UK when travelling between County's or even Country's. 👍
@@701Adventures you only change plates if you move to another state and live there. the only other time you'd have to change plates is if you let the vehicle sit unregistered too long at that stage it needs to be reregistered and and a new plate is issued. so a vehicle can have the same plate forever.
Hey mate I only got a new number plate as my one was damaged from off-road abuse. If I wanted the same combination I would of had to order it and wait. It was easier to just get a replacement with a different combination.
Great job Josh, can't wait for the videos. and all the best. Dunlop D606 are great, a bit noisy on the highway but great off road. After 5000klms your front will wear the knobs back on an angle. Best of luck 👍🍻

That's correct mate. I did the same for my Simpson desert trip as well. For those longer adventures I find I need a little bit of extra space.
should've taken a Harley D, good luck
