I was on the train this year- BEAUTIFUL scenery and an even more beautiful locomotive! It is horrible news that it won’t run for a while, but with Big Boy coming back into service, I am just glad that we have a steam locomotive to pull the excursions.
Legendary Bros What do you mean? There are no breaks to fix. The train was put into emergency upon hitting the person. The common belief is that it will be a doubleheader to Ogden.
If ever there was a modern day fire breathing , but friendly dragon these saved relics are those, and thanks to the folks at UP for s aving them. What a toy to play with
Once upon a time, the UP could compete on a level of equality with the orient Express, it was just that luxurious. And the last time I saw a UP this completely assembled was -- I don't remember the exact year -- when it was pulling out of the station in Seattle carrying a train load of dignitaries, one being Henry Kissinger, former secretary of state. But make no bones about it, when you traveled across the country on the UP you couldn't do better had you taken the Orient Express.
thank you for the excellent film and travel along with the 844 up where I am in manufacturing on the scale model 1/10 livesteamer here in BRAZIL thank you all until the next trip FERRLEO LIVESTEAMER scale 1/10 BRAZIL
Jaw dropping, stunningly beautiful..❤️ Hello from the UK, brilliant footage, one day one day I will see her..👍 I’ve shared your film on our Facebook group ‘Steam Loco’s in Preservation’ hope you don’t mind...👍
Awsome Video Of the 844 pulling out of Denver, sadly they stop running the 844 after the accident, but I can't wait for the doubleheader with the big boy #4014 and 844 next year
I followed this Pretty Lady from Fort Worth Texas down to Hearne Texas back on April 10, 2010 when she made the run from Cheyenne Wy. to Harlingen Texas and then Back to Cheyenne. What a beautiful sight. I have some cool pics and videos. I just wish I could post them on here. She made the run without the aid of a "diesel electric locomotive". Sure wish UP would make that run again. I would love to buy a ticket and ride from Fort Worth to Harlingen and back.
I just LOVE this train!!!! Too bad it doesn't make it to the Mid West that often, around the Chicagoland area where I live. This would REALLY make my day!!!! How would I get updates on the 844??
Come on whistle sounds sick its not that ghostly whistle in this video at all guys it may be old but ssomeone keeps it a going i love seeing it on this video i will hear it and see it may 8th 2019 at ogden utahs union station. Event wed thurs friday
Very interesting and beautiful. But why is the diesel locomotive there? What did the railway workers do when there were no diesel locomotives? Do you have to have an additional locomotive?
@Wollenschrank I believe the diesel is there for dynamic braking (and maybe generating electricity for the passenger cars?) It's also nice to have it attached to the train, in case something should happen to the steam locomotive.
When it's going backward, is the Diesel Locomotive doing the work? or the steamer? I don't see much steam coming out of the cylinder when it's going backward.
Not as far as I know. The IRM does have a couple of 4-8-4s, but not any like this one. The only other 3 FEF locomotives are in Council Bluffs, IA (814); Ogden, UT (833); and the Cheyenne steam shops for parts (838). However, the IRM has the Santa Fe 2903, the Grand Trunk Western 6323, the Milwaukee Road 265, which are all 4-8-4s.
No prob. All 4-8-4 with Boxpok type drivers can look similar to a certain extent. About the only 4-8-4s that look really different are the Southern Pacific GS class and the N&W Js. There were some weird Great Northerns as well.
What a beautiful work of art! Glad to see the old gal restored and back in operation! I wish that I could have been there. Maybe some time.
Another great video, Nick. I really appreciate your keeping the crowd intrusion to a minimum even though this was the most popular train event going!

Legendary Bros UP 844 making the one run this year was set long ago. This accident had nothing to do with it, just devoting time to the big boy.
Jared Taylor yeah, I knew that, It is just sad that she won’t run for another three years.
Legendary Bros No. 844 will be running next year....
Jared Taylor are they double heading with 4014? Or will they have the brakes fixed?

Great crystal clear video. Thanks so much for posting.
A rare tour of north Denver before it even left town.
I like to see trains, moreover classic trains like this. The horn is reminiscent of
childhood. Hopefully your channel has more success.

4:34 We’re highballin’ it outta the Mile-High City!
It's a shame that 2018 was the last year 844 and the union pacific railroad did theses runs from Cheyenne to Denver for the cheyenne frontier days :(
Whistle sounds "sick"...low boiler pressure?
The Black Beauty rides again....

I don't see much steam coming out of the cylinder when it's going backward.
Had this locomotive been to the Illinois Railway Museum? It looks familiar.

@@NEAFarmKid4010 thank you. I guess all Santa Fe 4-8-4s look the same to me.
