Yeah my hometown track been going there since high school '82. Live about 5 miles from it can still hear those high revving motors. Still makes me smile.
Still love coming there! There aren’t usually a lot of ppl there but I like it. I like seeing the “everyday cars” go against each other. It’s always a good time.
That track will always hold a special place in my heart it was the first track I ever went to and the first one I ever raced on from jr dragsters to low 5 sec radial cars
Awesome video!!! This is my hometown track, my dad started taking me to brainerd in the early 80s. My favorite memory has to be the modified eliminator class man were they exciting to watch... Great job putting this together.
Thank you for your sharing the history of Brainerd Drag Strip. I have been going there since mid 80's. I busted out in tears at 17:20 to 17:30 in the video seeing my late son Mark Ravens in his 93 Mustang (RIP). He loved racing there and had so many good time's there racing and being with his friends. Brainerd will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Awesome awesome video man I’m from knoxville Tennessee I grew up going to 411 dragway sadly it’s no longer open but the track surface is still there and I went to knoxville drag strip in maynardville my dad raced a 78 nova best time was 7.34 which was pretty impressive for a all steel car on leaf springs I absolutely love watching your videoes keep them coming
Great video, as a kid I spent many nights at Brainerd racing with my daddy... Loved the Wayne Barker segment, you should do a video about the Barkers and the Super Toy... being from Bledsoe Co that car was the biggest baddest car around these parts in its day...
I started going to Brainerd optimist with my uncle Levon Wilson in the 70s and went on to build and race every weekend from the late 80s all the way till 2005. I still go on a rare occasion. Great memories. Back in the mid 80s the race was actually televised.
That's awesome! Wish I could've been around in the '70s and '80s to see some of the cars that ran there. Thank goodness for Wayne Hollands videos, I can watch those things over and over again.
I'm 66 and raised in CA. I rode my bike to Irwidale raceway when I was in the fifth grade. Remember hearing about other dragstrips and Brained was a big name. Enjoy

Great video! I always wanted to go to Brainerd. You mention Wayne Holland. I had the pleasure of becoming internet friends with him about 15 years ago. A Super person. I built him a model of his "Close Encounters" 66 Chevelle. Another great video and my best to Wayne.
@@HotRodHoarder You should do a video on his Chevelle. Does he still have it? He did back then. I use to restore vintage road race cars. My favorite part was the research. I haven't raced in years but I was going sometimes 2-3X a week racing my 03 Mustang GT 5-10-15 passes a night. In the old days it was still a 1/4 mile track
The bad thing is you could build a track on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean and 30 minutes later people would complain from there boats that the noise bothers them.
You got it right! And it isn't only race tracks, small airports can hardly exist anymore. I am a BIG fan of race tracks, airfields and gun clubs. But I wouldn't build a house 800 feet away. Unless I was a developer.

I remember my dad taking me to that drag strip and I saw a car that I think was one of the first wheelie cars. I was only four years old so all I remember is the cars were really loud and I liked wheelies. When you popped up the certification of Larry Rose being a member of the Roadmasters, and the name Buddy Houts, I said I know that guy. His son took me to his house a couple of years ago and he showed me his dragster and his collection of car stuff. I heard stories about Buddy Houts, but I wasn’t aware of their relationship with the drag strip. Now I gotta talk him into letting me get some pictures of his dragster and other cars in his garage, that’s more like a private museum. The name Cotton Perry was familiar to me as well. I was only in high school, but I heard stories. There was one guy who drove a six cylinder Nova and had a reputation for leaving many V-8s in the dust. Not sure of his name but he had a shop on Rossville Blvd, where he built engines and hot rods. The building is still there but I don’t know who owns it. He had quite a reputation. I just found your channel when I called up my dad to see if he remembered taking me to see the drag races and the wheelie car. I’ve been wanting to go back to that drag strip for years, and I’m going to check the schedule and get out there. I might even take my Camaro, just to see what it’ll do. lol. I subscribed to the channel and I look forward to watching more videos. When I was talking to my dad, he told me about races that were not exactly sanctioned but were started at the foot of Lookout Mountain and ran to the top past Ruby Falls. It was a favorite of the moonshine runners, and that’s one my family traditions. One of the only memories of my grandfather was the day they busted up his still. It took him a month to rebuild that thing. lol
Oh wow, that's cool! Larry Rose is truly a treasure...his memories are so great and he has a lot of great photos of hot rodding in this area. Cotton Perry was THE MAN when it came to 6 cylinder performance. He's actually building a Nova drag car right now. I've heard of the Lookout Mountain hill climb races...pretty sure those started over 100 years ago! Thank you for subscribing...I hope to do more of these track history pieces in the future!
Wow!! Another awesome video, I really enjoy drag racing history, I grew up in the 1960's-70's, my favorite cars were the modified production cars which were the mainstay at our local track, in my early teens I always wanted to go to Detroit Dragway but my Grandparents didn't like the surrounding area so I could go until I was able to drive myself...anyway we have a track that needs some help, the name of the track is Milan Dragway(Michigan)which was run into the ground...there is plenty of rumors what happened...the track didn't open this year due to money issues....maybe you can help?? God Bless!!!
If I remember correct they kinda partnered with Phenix City to run a small series for the Outlaw racers. Also i want to say Jody Benton ended up in creek with his Purple Pig Limited Street Camaro. The purple camaro actually is in the video, during the part about the transition causing havoc.
I actually won my first big money grudge race (well big money for me LoL) $3500 back 2015 when my 00 z28 could honestly be called a street car LoL!. About a month before I ditched the bottle and the th400, threw a glide and a Borg t6 1.32 a/r s475 turbo and a couple mods. Back then I was still running the sbe LS1 with a ljms turbo cam and a set of stock 799 heads Stock ECU tuning with hp tuners well not me but started learning how to tune. Just thinking of back then made me realize I had more fun goin slower compared to now, I thought I was fast running 5.80s LoL
I'll always love my full 1320 length racing. It's hard to watch 1/8th mile after growing up with 1\4. As fast as many of the cars are these days it feels like a launch contest to me more so than a race.
Yeah, having grown up with eighth mile racing, it seems pretty normal here, but I can imagine it being a little strange if you're used to quarter mile stuff.

Same here I'm like 20 minutes away on the road but I can hear them racing at bmp and at Boyd's speedway

Would you have any pics of an orange ‘56 Chevy Bel Air D/Gas Tennessee Twister” that raced 1965-1968. Owned by the Dotson brothers Jim and Marvin (driver)?
From 1970-1975 they raced a 1970 Camaro - “Zonk”. Black & silver, B/Modified Production class.
I don't think I have any pictures of that one. My neighbor raced back in the '60s and probably knows of the car...I'll ask him about it.
Thanks!
I "shatter the peace and quietude" every time I start my blower car. Better cover your ears!
Try to find billy smith Plymouth arrow doing a wheelie
Very informative vid. Thanks for the work you put into it. Now....I really hate to have a neg. comment....but I guess I'm just so old school that I still cannot get into 1/8th mile drag racing. I'll go to the grave championing 1/4 mile all the way. Can I get a witness?

What's up John, lol. I see your comment on Richard's videos all the time.
If you can’t handle the sound of a drag strip then move.
Agreed!
@@HotRodHoarder The water damage thing probably sucks though, I’d probably hope a lot that it doesn’t reach the neighbors cuz water damage is a no fun
