Yasas! What a nice suprise. I just saw the thumbnail F16 cockpit view of this flying video and decided to watch without looking at the title & write up. As the video continued, I thought the topography, & landscape reminded me alot of flying in Greece. I hadn't noticed the fin flash on the F16 yet. As the flight approached the runway, the approach end cliff & the large hill on the right side of the runway looked more familiar. But I was still just watching the flying. Then, on the go-around, I saw the Greek fin flash on the F16. GREECE! So then I wondered what Greek base could that be? On the next approach, I immediately recognized the Runway with the yellow X on the threshold, the American Base, the Greek NATO Base, and the Greek Civil Air Terminal! SOUDA! OPAH! Instant, awesome memories! Been there. Done that. I was the Director of Operations of the USAF recon squadron In Athens that moved to Souda Bay, Crete during Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Three years later, I had the honor to return as their Commander. I have hundreds, more like thousands of cherished memories from those days and working with our wonderful Greek Allies and Greek Friends. Those two assignments are without a doubt, the highlights of my life. Despite the troubled times & the hard work, my troops and I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Hellenic Air Force & the warm friendships we shared during good times & bad. They flew A-7s back then. I even got to fly their A-7 simulator. They claimed I was the only American commander who successfully landed it heavy weight with hung ordinance. Who am I to differ? Heheh. Turned out my "Name Day" is the same as the Hellenic Air Force's. In Greece, one's Name Day is celebrated equivalent to our Birthday. Whoda thunk, I'd come across this video 25 years later. μοίρα? Crosswind και Base Leg πραγματοποιουνται πολυ συντομα. Ειναι λογω μεγαλης ταχυτητας που δεν παραμενει το αεροσκαφος σε αυτα τα σταδια για πολυ ωρα και σε level flight?

Nice to see a realistic vid for a change ... one question though, why the go-around ? is this standard procedure (in stead of a overhead break for example)
If the ahead jet plane was faster or the behind plane was slower, the ahead plane would have gotten enough time to land and clear the runway for the behind plane, so the second plane would not have to make an unnecessary turn and would've saved some fuel.
They usually do an overhead break where you fly over the runway then break to the left and fly around but I dont know why they had their gear out so maybe it was some kind of training thing

Lead aircraft is the student probably and the first turn-around was on instructions of the second plane (instructor) or something like that I imagine
