I'm sorry but your glasses trick does not make sense to me because gambits happens in almost every game. Some guy who rarely play gambits could use it, you, on the other hand, should wear gambit glasses all the time.. or never. Also, 500-700 lower rated opponents is no fun. They are dumb as hell no matter what you play.
William, imho you are missing the point. You could also argue a lot of Morphy's opponents were dumb as hell (compared to him), that does not make the games less instructive. It is through bad play and mistakes that one gets to show nice plans and attacks. His audience are casual/club players probably, and it surely is good enough for them. He also played a higher rated opponent (2500+ if my eyes don't decieve me).
