    Great device and very helpful video. Sometimes it is difficult for me to follow a certain youtube tutorials because I am visually impaired and cannot see when someone points at something and only says something like: as you can see, this, there etc. You explained everything so clearly that I could learn everything while simply having this keyboard in front of me. Thank you. :) I think this simple little sequencer will turn out to be useful lots of times.

    So... did I get this wrong or do you need a midi input cable to get the sync out of the daw into the keystep? Because I can't for the live of me get it to work on usb mode, can't use it as sequencer/arp without using the internal switch at the back of the keystep

      Came here to see if there was a solution for this, just scoured the internet looking for a fix as I got a Keystep 37 delivered today. Really happy with the feel of the keys, but like yourself - having MEGA trouble trying to get Ableton working as the master clock sync. Surely this shouldn't be this crappy a problem. Did you ever manage to fix it? Would love to hear back if you had any solution on this.

    I have a question that I asked a lot of people and Channel on TH-cam but nobody answers me. Can we do more complex patterns than just quarter notes or eighth notes etc.? Example My measure is 1 half note, 2 eighth notes, 3 dotted eighth notes and 4 sixteenth notes. Is it possible ?

  • @ib0904

    I can use this as a normal piano/ eKeyboard, right? I have a minimal space in my room and I don't live in my own country, then I think this one is perfect.

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The keyboard itself does not make any sound on it's own, it needs to be connected to the computer with a virtual instrument loaded or a synthesizer.

  • @walrtbstudios5430
    @walrtbstudios5430 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hmm... I have to press an awful lot more buttons on my Keystep to get it to play an arpeggio. Perhaps it was a function of being inside Ableton (I don’t own a pc).

    @pafcjack100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems this thing's more useful when plugged into hardware for sequencing?
    With a DAW it's just any old MIDI keyboard, with slightly nicer mini keys to be fair.

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, it definitely excels when connected to hardware. A lot of the MIDI keyboards in this range trade-off features with each other, be it rotary knobs, drums pads, mod wheels etc. In the case of the KeyStep, the gain is in the sequencer and solid hardware connectivity whilst being very well built and nice to play.

    Cool video, I needed a new small MIDI keyboard and the Keystep is perfect for my needs. I do have one issue, and that's the fact I can't get one in black. I kept seeing people with black ones but I've discovered they were a limited edition. I think they should have made them all black, and white as the limited edition. I've actually done some market research, and out of 4 people I asked, 3 of them preferred black, the other said white but was discounted as they thought I meant a computer keyboard.

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here are a couple things to check: If the KeyStep seems to be running at the correct BPM but not hitting quite on the beat, it could be worth checking your latency compensation settings for the KeyStep.
      Another thing to note is that the sync output will only be sent from Ableton when the project in Ableton is playing.

    I cant get arp/seq to work with ableton or my dreadbox for the life of me.

    • @JacobVBurg
      @JacobVBurg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No fear! There's always a solution to these problems. For me, I was trying to use it out of the box to control a hardware synth. I had the dipswitches on the back set to the wrong setting. In my case, I was using the keyboard as the control for the synth, which means the keyboard is using the internal clock. Both dipswitches need to be in the down position for this setup, so if you want to control the dreadbox by itself to test the keyboard, try both switches in the down position. If you are working with a DAW, you'll need to adjust the dipswitches differently, but the exact setting depends on how you're using it as a controller for Ableton. Try putting them both in the up position for ableton control and let me know if any of this works.
