Tim these monument’s being moved is was needed due to the construction. The railroad not being there made all the difference. And construction of the bridge at railroad bed. Thank you for sharing! 💯👍👊
Thanks Tim. We would never have known these facts while visiting and observing these monuments. Thank you for taking the time and schooling us who are interested in the preservation of Gettysburg.
Interesting timeline of the various bridges that have spanned the railroad cut over the years. Also loved the story of the Great Terrain Robbery! Thanks for another great episode, Tim.
Huge fan of all the videos. Per the flank marker comment at 8:46 dies anyone have a monument/marker scavenger hunt tally sheet to look for/mark down when found?
I have been looking for the right flank marker of the 6th Wisconsin for years! For some reason, Tim's camera person did not follow him to the spot and did not zoom in on him. So, I will have to accept the challenge and try again to find it.
I visited the 6th WIS right flank marker just last June for the express purpose of locating it :) . That whole business of swapping land with the college to allow the tracks to move was a travesty - it permanently destroyed what was the land surrounding the railroad cut! It should have NEVER happened. I wish the lawsuit against the college and railroad would have been successful.
You're a great historian Tim, always great to watch the history lesson. To tell you the truth I worry about whether they got the right spot for the monuments the first time. I guess they started putting them up years if not decades after the battle and I guess they had men from the battle go there and try to figure out where they were that day. I am wondering if half of them didn't get the right area, because there was so much going on in those days that they might have misplaced the monuments in the wrong location. I guess there may have been a book or two written about these things. Maybe I'm wrong about that but how much can we trust the current locations of the monuments- maybe another episode.
What confuses me, why is the 95th NY monument slightly to the right of the 6th Wis.? Shouldn’t they be reversed? The 6th Wisconsin charged to the right of the 95th.
The evolution of battlefield interpretation intrigues me - from granite to the Trust. Wonder what's next as we transition into the digital age. Would be interesting to know how much NPS budget is needed for monument maintenance and how much is done by park staff, and when they call in outside resources. Easy enough to look up, I suppose.

Another great monuments Monday!
It is interesting how many markers and monuments have been moved. I wonder sometimes how the veterans would have felt about that.
Thank You, Tim, for all you do.

Oh Tim, don't leave us wondering just how many monuments exist at / around / with regard to the Gettysburg battle!
Stay tuned!

I heard that Gabor Borritt had a lot to do with this disastrous land exchange?

I was worried that there would not be an installment this week.
