i really like bars 17-22, as the note durations are extended, it really "drags" the phrase out. the same set of notes are being played & heard, but are played/heard a bit differently due to the altered durations.
i also like repeating motifs over chord changes, as the same set of notes are played, their "function" changes over each chord. a melodic note may be a consonant chord tone over one chord, or a tense non-chord tone (NCT) or an extension over another, which equals familiarity + variety or color.

Thanks! Yeah I'm a fan of repeating motifs over chord changes as well. Easy to do and can sound great.

Honestly the most useful melody video I have found to date. Thank you so much as I always struggle to find a good melody with my chords !

Nice one! I have been searching for melody tutorials and this gives clear explanations. I only have one question: when you say discount B and Bb. Do you mean not to use them? Or use them with more thinking? Looking forwarded to your answers. Thx!

Thanks for the question. Yes I mean not to use them if you're strictly following the blended approach I mention. But feel free to experiment, if you like the sound of something then you can keep it in! Hope that helps.

This video was so heplful. The fact that you actually showed a full song at the end made me better visualize how to add variety in melody throughout the whole arangement.
I wonder though if the visualization with notes above numbered chords is self-made, or is there a software for it?

Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful!
It's made with software called HookPad. I made a video about it here : th-cam.com/video/YwQxYsVpOq4/w-d-xo.html
