That's really interesting, thank you - I tend to write on the bus or the train and yes, handwriting in a notebook. I think the connection between brain, hand and eye which make the writing come from a different place and re-embed itself in my mind in a much deeper way than typing on a laptop. I also enjoy the revisions, going through with a red pen and reworking and rewriting. Eventually I do type it all out on a computer but then I'll print it out and begin the revision in pen sometimes cutting up sections and gluing them back in a different order. Again, I know this could be done on a laptop but I find there's something deeply satisfying in the process of making the writing in what feels like to me a more sculptural way.
Thank you. I think I’m going to go back to pen and paper more. I did two NaNoWriMos with my laptop but you can’t just whip a laptop out as easily as a notepad. Plus, when my kids see me wit a laptop they think I’m sitting there waiting for them to ask me to do something. I wonder whether they’ll ignore me more if I’m just sitting with a notebook? Worth a try! 📖
Superb stuff. As one would expect from Sally O'Reilly. Sensible, to the point, very helpful.
