They use psychological warfare, so a "rap battle" of sorts would be a form of combat for them, although how effective it is at actually killing an alternate is questionable since, assumably, no information an alternate and much less a human could know would be able to inflict them with M.A.D, they already know or can comprehend anything the other could tell them, you could absolutely prevent them from harming you though.
