With the textbox, you can set it to "keep the ratio" by doing the following during the design stage: * right-click -> control * scroll down until you find "scale" * set that to "keep ratio" You might have an image outline that doesn't fit the image, but at least the image will look ok.
I would suggest that you backup your database then run an SQL command against the database table you want to update the link/path from and to: UPDATE Table SET Column = Replace(Column, 'find value', 'replacement value') WHERE xxx Hope this helps..
The same principle applies. If your location to your images is localhost\IMAGES\ then just link your MySQL server to LO and apply image control to your textbox [varchar] using LO. For this demo I'm using LO's HSQL there is no difference than if I used MySQL.
The reports section in Libreoffice is rather limited at what it can do, if you have subforms I suggest collating them in a query and grouping the data according to ID then use the query in your report to display the data you require.
I have replicated the exact same demo today using Windows XP and LO 3.6 and it is all working here. I suggest you look at your firewall settings, have you tweaked around with any LO options?
See my video from 11:40 this should solve your problem. Also check that you have the field set to [VARCHAR] and allowed enough characters I see mine to 200 characters.
Hello! Back again with another issue. I have created a wonderfully designed Form with "text fielded" images and sub-forms. Now, I would like to print the data somewhere displaying the images. I tried to use a report but 1) I can't display the image. 2) I can't take data from the subforms. I tried to mail merge from Writer, but I guess it doesn't solve any of the two problems. Sorry for bothering. Any suggestion is very much appreciated (like all your fantastic videos). Pietro
Hi, thanks for the tut but i was asking for how to see images when you use LO and Mysql.. the same example but linking images to urls like localhost/image.jpg or any URL Thanks..
If I can link in an image from a website using the website URL as shown in this video, then surely you can do the same? It seems to me that you are entering information in on the localhost and trying to access the data from an external client. You need to make sure that you have the FQDN infront of the image files location. Eg, h t t p :// yourdomainname. com / images /1.jpg Your database should store the location. For you to access from anywhere.
Thank you very much. It was very useful. I have created a database with a thousand images using the TextField and it worked. Now I would like to migrate my database to another computer and I am forced to change the link/path to the file where the photos are. Can you suggest a way to do it easily? I couldn't find a way to copy and replace a part of the link in the TextField and I am afraid I have to write again the links one by one... Thank you Pietro
Fantastic video! Thank you, I learned a lot. Is there a way to mailmerge the text image field into a writer document and display it as the image rather than the path?
Generally with PDFs you can take a screen shot of the PDF and add a link to the PDF file in another field. I have not heard of libreoffice displaying PDFs within Base itself.
Seems it doesn't work.. i trying to solve this problem for about 2 weeks and nothing.. seems is a missing feature. like LO work with relative urls instead of external urls. :(
Thanks, I wasn't looking for this tip, but is very usefu, essential to know. I hope you can help me. I want to connect a writer document to a database, but I don't know how to insert a image field in a writer document
Fantastic!! Off to look at the rest of your vids!
god I've spent so many hours trying to get this to work with other guides and this finally did it for me
I'm glad this has helped you 😌

Your video is very helpful for pictures, thank you :-) Do you have any instructions for adding other files such as videos and .PDF's?

@@shanepiper Thank you for your reply. :-)
I will forward you this working example. From the video

In libreoffice writer go to Insert on the top menu, the Image and From File, Scanner etc..
How about inserting image copied in clipboard?
Thanks, i'm using openoffice and i can apply this too...
i can't see any image from any external url, just local images.. try it by yourself..
Wow, for some reason it doesn't work.. the only difference between your setup and mine is i'm using windows. very weird..
Thanks Shane...can you please send me your working example to my name gmail? sorry for bother you.. but this is a pain in.. you know where.. LOL
