Very helpful. I'm probably not the only one who tried to just make a big outer wall /w all the buildings. Didn't get how the town hall connected. This now makes sense. Thanks!
Super helpful! Didn’t really get all of the sign instructions while I was making it in game. I kinda got the gist of it but I got stuck. But that lvl 5 preview tip really clarified it, thanks a bunch!
@@TeeshyPlays I think it's more a "you're welcome" situation. It hadn't occurred to me to _turn the darn buildings around._ When I tried it the first time, I had the walls facing outwards because it's a fortress, which messed everything up to the point where I started putting the Town Hall independent of everything else and made my fortress into a U-shape with the 3-chunk Barracks as a narrow point, which of course left a pair of open doors into the back. It was a bit of a nightmare. This also explains the big hole in the upper level of the Town Hall.
Incredibly useful and exactly what I needed. The website I found that explained this didn't have enough screenshots to be able to explain the placement of that first builder's hut in relation to the town hall, but your video addressed that perfectly. Thanks for the effort.
I now wish you uploaded this video like a month ago xD I had to figure it out by myself. And I actually did. I realized it had those signs in the builder number 1. It really helps. I've been testing this style in a creative world and I love it. I'm planning the layout for my new survival world. Wish I would play it with someone else :/
You can play with someone else! There are servers that are based around this mod, and if you become a Patreon of the MineColonies mod you can get into the exclusive donor only servers :) A great bunch of folks!
You're welcome - hope it helps! If you are going to build the alternate/larger hospital and university, please watch the "corrections" video too! I messed up first time around ;)
The Fortress supply ship also fits in a 16x16 area, although that's less of a big deal to line up with chunk borders unless you're gonna do some port expansion with Fortress buildings later.
Yeah, silly of me to forget to mention that! I've even kept the supply camp as part of my colony in one play through, to use as my "base". I had to redesign the back wall a little to allow rails through, but it worked really well!
@@TeeshyPlays I've been wondering where I should build anything for myself. I thought about adding blisters in the wall shape to make room for stuff, but I might just build my base outside the colony and connect it by walled or raised road. I like my auto farms and I prefer to keep explosions disabled in the colonies. They wouldn't want that constant TNT noise all night anyway, surely.
@@LibraritheWizardOfficial If you're single player outside the colony definitely works for things like that! I tend to play very vanilla-like, so auto-farms aren't a thing I do at all. If you did need to keep it in the boundaries of your colony you could always put them underground - and just make sure you never let the miner dig on the levels you have your stuff built on =) But yeah, I prefer to keep explosions off too.
...just now, when changing the description of the video, I re-read your comment and realised you said "ship" not "camp"! Sorry about that! I didn't realise that at all! You're right, it isn't as much of a big deal, but people do make the port part of their town, so it is handy info to have! Will add that to the description too - thanks!
Thanks! Fortress is a little special with the way it all lines up =) You don't need to do it this way of course, you can do it however you want! Add gaps, build several small "circles" - whatever you want really =)
i will say this style looks extreamly well in the conquest texturepack *it needs optifine but looks really good* as it gives the style all the more livly feel.
Usually you can tell the miner which level to mine on, so it isn't a problem at all =) Just make sure to not let the miner run wild until you know which "Y" level the tavern cellar is on =)
well i feel dumb. all this time, couldn't figure out why those buildings had corner rails like that, but i spread everything apart. it never occured to me to follow the signs. gonna try tis now

There's really no rules for that - it's the same as minecolonies itself - depends on what you think is important. People need places to sleep, they'll need food, you'll need materials for your builders, somewhere to store the materials and so on. There's no hard and fast rules to what order to build things in =) Fortress is very stone heavy, so you might want a miner before a forester - but if you like digging and mining stone, then a forester might be a good idea, cos you're gonna need a fair bit of wood too! Truly is up to you!
