    As a Polish girl, Kerber said (2:15) "cz" in place of "cs" (Bacsinszky) because cz = ch in Polish, cs = ch in Hungarian.

      Her parents were, then they became swiss, and Timea is only swiss, 100%, born and raised in Switzerland, near my town, speaking french as we do here.
      Timea BABOS is hungarian.

      Bacsinszky's surname is of Polish origin and Angie tried to spell it as if it was Polish (Baczyński) :)

      It's not "out of nowhere". Timeas surname has polish origin and possibly it was Baczyński in the past and since Kerber is half polish it was logical for her.

    Bacsinszky is tough, but, then again, they could have asked them to spell the French player, Tessah Andrianjafitrimo, or the Thai, Nicha Lertpitaksinchai!

    For the great and beautiful Bencic, Mladenovic the pest was easy, as they were best friends at the time.
    I already saw this video when it came out, but now, it makes me miss Bacsinszky, who's making a terrible season, sadly.
    Otherwise, to see Bencic, Halep and Kerber, 3 of my fav in 1 funny video is really cool.

    sorry WTA, but spelling english transcription of russian name is nonsense. Pavlyuchenkova is just english version, but in russian it is Павлюченкова, which can be transcripted as "Pavluchenkova or Pavliuchenkova or in my language Pavljučenkova. If you transcript Павлюченкова as Pavlyuchenkova, then why Plíšková is not transcripted correctly as 'let's say' PLEESHKOVA.

    What’s the problem to pronounce names correctly? For me it’s so easy, perhaps because I face them often when watching tennis. And now I do believe they never check draws and rankings

      Watching tennis screws up everybody's pronunciation, because the commentators usually pronounce them wrong. For instance, Wozniacki is actually pronounced "wash-nee-ash-kee" according to Caroline herself. And according to my slovak friend, "plish-ko-va" (as the commentators say) is actually pronounced "pleesh-ko-va".

      That is simply not true. I am from Hong Kong and majority of the people in Asia pronounce it 'E"-Zed, which is closer to the British way than the American way. In fact when I first come to America I have a hard time distinguishing whether people are spelling 'c' or 'z'

      No, haha, I say "Zi" too. I'm from the Upper-Midwest US, which is how I know many Canadians say both...but maybe they're just being nice and entertaining my pronunciation.

    Angelique Kerber is polish Player. Her parents are from Poland Angie lives in the small city Puszczykowo near Poznań You Can t forget that one! The no 1 also Can Say polish Yes It s True She was born in the Brema because mum and dad were looking for work She is POLISH!

      She said that she feels like a german. Of course Poland is a part of her and also has a special place in her heart because her grandparents are from poland and live there but she grew up in Germany and she spent almost her whole life in Germany. This is what she said in an Interview after the US open in Munich.
