Hey great comment! I made this video literally the second after I filmed with the C70 and was blown away, I don't have any client work with it yet but I will soon! At the moment IM even selling my Sony's that are left and getting another C70. All very new and very fresh.
I wish you added footage of the C70 to show what you are talking about. I'm an FX3 user and love using the camera. I noticed your footage had a lot of noise. Did you use the dual native ISO to help with low light?
@adaptable.marketing the fact that you’re a fx3 user is great. I love that camera. I made this video when I first got it with why I got it. So didn’t have much footage to show. Personally, if you don’t care about 12bit colour I think your fx3 is the better camera.
Aside from the 12 bit, why not the Sony FX6? It costs basically the same, has Internal Variable ND while still being full frame, and you get to keep all your sony Lenses/accessories.
Hey! Thanks for this great comment. So I was originally going to buy the FX6. Great camera for the record! But for my needs, it wasn't much different from my FX3. Same sensor, same picture quality, same problem with 12 bit raw being pro res and not working in DaVinci. So the C70 with the speed booster is full frame equivalent, has 16 1/2 stops of dynamic range, uses EF lenses with the speed booster (all my lenses are EF) naturally sounded like an upgrade, and boy was it a upgrade! Footage is a dream.
Hey yes you are correct. I had made that video a couple of days after I made the switch. I havent filled any client work by then but wanted to pay forward why I sold my FX3 and got the C70. The C70 footage is coming on the channel very soon! Happy New Year!
Sept. 2024 and time passes and Canon C80 is announced. Also at IBC Blackmagic say that Blackmagic RAW is coming to some Sony cameras via external BM Monitor. That would be a dream for some - all the tech, AF, eNDs etc. from Sony and the BM RAW for image quality!
Hey man! Fellow AOD filmmaker here from Los Angeles region. We screened "Meet Austin" at the one day doc watch screening. Phenomenal work!!! Thank you for sharing your process and the behind the scenes using the FX3. I've worked on all the Sony FX cameras and have to say they are really good cameras to shoot docs with. I've also owned the Red Komodo & C70. Nothing compares to the rich canon color science and the information coming from that sensor is so good. I kind of miss having the internal ND on the C70 for $4K price tag you can't go wrong with that. Can't wait to watch more of your work, you just earned a new sub. Cheers man!
Man what a great read! Thank you for making my day. Great way to end of the year. The Sony cams are 1st class! Only reason IM leaving is because of the 12 bit Raw workflow that cant be done with the Sony cams in DaVinci. My company had its biggest year yet and it was thanks to the Sonys! PS I still kept the Sony A7s iii and the A74 so IM not all gone. I have 3 types of clients. Low ticket, mid ticket, high ticket. And for the mid to high ticket I want to use all 12 bit raw. For the low-mid ticket items I can still see myself using the Sony's with 10 bit Pro Res HQ using the atomos external recorder.
Man, you got me w the video title! I own a Canon R5C and tried the FX3 and was confused about all the hype. Yet I was impressed by your FX3 footage of the race car drivers-was that ProRes RAW? Btw. When you started talking up the C70, I kept waiting for some C70 footage 💁♂️ Good luck w the channel!
Hey! I didnt have C70 footage because I made this video a couple of days after getting it and I filled minor things, not client work. I will def have c70 footage on this channel this year, a lot of it! Also, the FX3, theres two parts to this camera, what the Fx3 is capable of internally, and whats its capable of doing externally with a Atomos Ninja V recorder. From my experience, you unlock a lot of its superpower with a Atomos Ninja V. I filmed all my footage with the ninja V in pro res HQ. The 12bit raw is in pro res and not davinci friendly so I never used it. PS the canon 5rc is incredible!
@@theyrecord thanks for the thorough reply! Especially the info about the FX3 w Atomos Ninja V. I'll keep it in mind in case a project demands a Sony camera. @@wildpatagoniafilms16 yes it does. You get Canon RAW in 3 compression options, which affect file sizes and quality (mostly in shadows). Its a great camera! And RD3 (red raw) is incredible, I believe its 16bit and thats far greater than 12bit raw with the C70. The only problem for my needs there is, the komodo has to be rigged out. I hate to tell you that but seeing your fx3 footages, i can definitely tell you your exposure looks off and 12/10bit does not matter unless you are heavily grading the footages particularly that all contents are for either tv or socoal media which is all 8bit. So it seems you never fully exploited your sonys before jumping ship 😢 i do come from Blackmagic and was struggling to get decent shots on the fx3, but i started to read the manuals and read some of Alister chapman blogs how to expose and deal with slog3. Once the exposure particularly on skin tones and white balance was nailed in camera, i got a really great image not far from my blackmagic but without having to have a huge setup, an army of batteries and a focus puller nxt to me on every shoot. I could also chargr less as after a day's job now i find myself with 100-200gb instead of the casual 400-700gb from two cameras.
Hey! Thanks for this great comment. I appreciate it. You're right, I could always expose better, IM not a pro, still learning. But, 10/12 bit aside, shooting raw files help you correct your exposure a bit. And I cant do raw with the sony system as their raw is Apple Pro Res Raw and it doesnt work in DaVinci. Got the C70.... the screen I had on my M50 was better built. this one feels fragile. I also miss the C100MK2 eyepiece EVF. this one is really hard to run and gun in the sun, You must have a very bright monitor.
You switched entirely to Canon because you edit on DaVinci.....? That's... an interesting take. You didn't even show any footage that you got from the C70 the video is hardly persuasive. I switched from Adobe to Davinci and I can switch back if for any reason why I needed to. What happens when Sony starts offering these Features? You going to switch back?
Thanks for this great comment! I switched because I want to film in 12 bit raw, and the 12 bit raw that comes with the sony is pro res raw, doesnt work with davinci, the canon 12 bit raw does. For that reason I switched but another reason I switched is the C70 has much better picture quality and I like the DGO sensor on the canon with the speed booster a lot more than sony's full frame. Theres no footage because I made this video prob 2 days into getting the c70. All this unfolded in real time.
I also have the C70 since a few months and love how the footage looks. But lowlight and stabilisation from sony is much better.I hope to upgrade to Red later this year.
Thanks for this great comment. You're absolutely right, that is the next step. I just want to get better at what I do and master the raw work flow before I make that jump to the Komodo X.
Hi...nice vid man...I'm looking forward to see more content from you. I own a C70 too and it's just amazing. Sony is great, and the FX6 and C70 are the same level but my heart beats for the Canon Colours and Softness.
I agree with you 100%, Sony is great but can't compete when it comes to picture quality as the Canon has a clear lead there with 12 bit internal and 16 1/2 stops dynamic range. IM so happy I passed on buying the FX6 and got the C70. So much so, I want to buy a second C70 and sell my Sony cams.

Thank you for one of the kinder comments to date. For me, I want to be as transparent and honest on this channel as possible. And I’m ok with being roasted for it lol. It all comes from a place of love and I tend to think a little differently.
Thanks for the comment, yes I agree. The FX3 and the A7s iii that I actually like more are amazing cameras and I had both. Main reason I left was I wanted to shoot everything in 12bit raw and Sony makes that hard as its 12bit pro res raw and it doesn't work in DaVinci. Canon C70 makes that workflow much easier.

I want to film everything in raw and I cant with the sony as its Pro Res Raw and doesnt work in DaVinci. With the Canon C70 I get Raw 12 bit that works perfectly with DaVinci. And my work has been better since. For me, IM always trying to learn and improve, so I can be the best I can daily.
saw your footage and you have very strange color process and somthing fall apart when you grade the footage - i can tell you that i had both and the problem is not the fx3 - you need to know how to work with fx3 foorage - i every time i sold my fx3 for other camera was big mistake - the fx3 is the most complete camera in the market
Hey thanks for the great comment. You’re right, my colour grading isn’t perfect, and I’m no expert. I didn’t leave the fx3 because it was a bad camera. It’s a great camera. I loved it. But it couldn’t film 12bit colour for Devinci resolve editing and I wanted to film in 12bit colour and edit in DaVinci. So for that reason I moved on.
@@theyrecord i definitely can understand that - loved the raw out of the c70 but for client work it was wast of my time - and i can do everything that i need with 10 bit - the only camera that really looked better was the blackmagic - the image out of the box is insain
Yea I love BM. I personally have 2 Ursa mini pro cameras. BlackMagic also shoots 12 bit BRAW. All cameras are great. Everyone’s needs are different. I loved my Sony cams. They were great.
I always hated the Sony look it’s milky, oversharpened and blacks are way too crushed, also everyone looks the same cause everyone uses them. Iam. BM shooter but I do rent the C70 sometimes and it’s truly beautiful. The Sony in the right hands looks amazing too tho but every teenager now with a cap and a tatoo calls himself filmmaker now
Here are my thoughts -- I have been a C70 owner since January 2021 and I have used it on a lot of paying client projects. From docs to music videos to basic HR training videos and interviews, it makes an amazing image, there no doubt about that. however, to say I've been frustrated with this camera and lately Canon Pro Services is an understatement. I have had this camera out for so many times now, I no longer want to take it out into the field it's so fragile. The first time was absolutely my fault, but the rest were not. I had the screen break on my twice, the HDMI port had to be fixed. This most recent time, something happened with the ND filter that needed to be cleaned, but they didn't do it right the first time so I had to send it back. -- I'm tired of using adapters to get professional audio or full frame out of the camera. I have been working with Super 35 cameras my entire career, but now I want full frame with no compromises, professional audio with no adapters. Using the Mi Shoe sounds so appealing to me and one of the reasons why I want to switch. I'm tired of how heavy it gets in a gimbal. The DGO sensor is great and has super clean highlights and shadows. Sadly though, with the c400 it seems like Canon is moving away from DGO technology... Which is a shame. I'm selling my Canon gear once my camera comes back from service. I fully understand there's no such thing as the perfect camera and every system has its pros and cons, but the fx3 seems really appealing to me. I'm so beyond frustrated with my C70 I'm breaking up with Canon. I've had my eyes on the Fx3 for a long while now and I'll be picking one up once the shutter angle update comes out. Eventually in about a year or so you're gonna realize that you should have stayed with Sony in my opinion.
Hey great comment. FX3 is great, I personally have a Fx6. Workhorse. C400 is a bit too much for me price wise. I think when Sony makes 12BIT colour easy to work with in DaVinci I can see myself coming back for sure.

@samiam-mu5ln you know what’s funny, I actually just bought a Fuji Xh2s and love it. True story. But I wouldn’t call myself a content creator. Not there yet. But maybe one day.
Hey thanks for the comment. I made this video the second day I got the camera and hadn’t used it on a shoot, hence no footage. My channel here is just documenting my personal experience. Lots of holes (correct) but I do hope to get better.
Camera doesn't matter, The real deal is lenses, if you can use cooke anamorphic lens on sony fx3 or on canon c70 you will have a great picture and perfect style. Very strange decision. But if you change camera for comfortable workflow on post - it's ok. Picture quality? 12 bit? Very strange)

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Got the C70.... the screen I had on my M50 was better built. this one feels fragile.
I also miss the C100MK2 eyepiece EVF. this one is really hard to run and gun in the sun, You must have a very bright monitor.
My monitor is the Atomos Shinobi 7
Thank you. Red is a dream camera for sure, just have to keep getting better every day so I know what to do with it later down the road.
You'll be happier with Red with 16 bit raw, but the great news is, red uses RF mount.
@@theyrecord ...and by the way...if you are looking for a nice cinema lens. A week ago I bought a MEIKE 35mm FullFrame Cine Lens. It's perfect for the C70 with the speedbooster.
@@AnotherVideoChannel-vs2mv Great lens! How do you like using it?
You're going against the TH-cam grain, good for you making a decision that fits your need! Seem like you're getting some hate and excuses in the comments for it though. Do what's best for you.
Thank you for one of the kinder comments to date. For me, I want to be as transparent and honest on this channel as possible. And I’m ok with being roasted for it lol. It all comes from a place of love and I tend to think a little differently.
The Fx 3 is such a great camera
Thanks for the comment, yes I agree. The FX3 and the A7s iii that I actually like more are amazing cameras and I had both. Main reason I left was I wanted to shoot everything in 12bit raw and Sony makes that hard as its 12bit pro res raw and it doesn't work in DaVinci. Canon C70 makes that workflow much easier.
imma stick with my bmpcc 4k until canon comes out with a c100 mk iii or c200 mk ii with full frame sensor
Pocket 4K is great! I myself have two 6ks. Love BlackMagic!
The reality is tho 10bit 12bit client can’t tell you already blow them away no need to upgrade
Hey thanks for the comment. You may be right, I didnt upgrade for the client. I upgraded for me.
As look as your happy with your work and workflow have you tried dnx 220?
@@darkpratt not sure I know what the dnx 220 is to be honest, what is it?
@@theyrecord it’s DNxHQ that atomos codec am sure raw is better tho
@@darkpratt Ah, no havent tried it. Want to stay and master a 12 bit raw workflow. Lots of learning ahead.
Nice! Look forward to the c70 footage :)
Thank you! Will start to have some very soon!
saw your footage and you have very strange color process and somthing fall apart when you grade the footage - i can tell you that i had both and the problem is not the fx3 - you need to know how to work with fx3 foorage - i every time i sold my fx3 for other camera was big mistake - the fx3 is the most complete camera in the market
Welcome to the C70 crew.
**as he sits at the table and says "Honoured to be here, lets get to work."
Because it's better in every way? :)
I am really enjoying the canon c70 💪🏻
I always hated the Sony look it’s milky, oversharpened and blacks are way too crushed, also everyone looks the same cause everyone uses them. Iam. BM shooter but I do rent the C70 sometimes and it’s truly beautiful. The Sony in the right hands looks amazing too tho but every teenager now with a cap and a tatoo calls himself filmmaker now
Love BlackMagic. Have a 6k myself. BM for the win 💪🏻
Sony looks Sony and Canon colors rock. End of story.
So far, from my limited experience with the C70, picture quality wise, its hard to beat. Incredible.
You left Sony for canon because you’re a goofball . You’re making excuses the whole video bro . Sike just joking 😂 canon has the best colors.
Hey thanks for the comment. For my workflow Canon is great! But everyone has different needs and I do understand that. Hope you have a great day and thanks for the time and comment once again.
These type of Content Creators make me laugh. Trust me, its all for the views/likes. In the next month, itll be "Why I Left Canon for Fuji". Just focus on your craft and stop this fixation of gear
@samiam-mu5ln you know what’s funny, I actually just bought a Fuji Xh2s and love it. True story. But I wouldn’t call myself a content creator. Not there yet. But maybe one day.
wtf all this with no footage lol? CLICKBAIT
Hey thanks for the comment. I made this video the second day I got the camera and hadn’t used it on a shoot, hence no footage. My channel here is just documenting my personal experience. Lots of holes (correct) but I do hope to get better.
its ok u are now sober :)
Thank you for the comment 🙏🏻
Canon 4 Life LOL
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Camera doesn't matter, The real deal is lenses, if you can use cooke anamorphic lens on sony fx3 or on canon c70 you will have a great picture and perfect style. Very strange decision. But if you change camera for comfortable workflow on post - it's ok. Picture quality? 12 bit? Very strange)
Hey! I agree with you 100 percent, my first video was on lenses and lights make your picture. We're on the same page. But, I do want to film in 12 bit and edit in DaVinci, unfortunately its super easy to do with the C70 and not with the fx3. And for the record, the FX3 and a7s iii are incredible cameras.
