The reason why the executions all start with the weapons already embedded in the enemy's body, is because an Execution only becomes available to players when they manage to finish off the enemy with a Heavy Attack, so once your Heavy lands, the weapon stays stuck in the enemy giving the player a few seconds to pick which of their 4 equipped Executions they want to use. Executions are a big part of play in For Honor. They give back Health to the player, and are bad for enemy morale xD . People will pick their Executions roughly based on these factors; _1:_ How fast does it kill? (There's different timings in the animations for each Execution at which point the enemy is considered to be 'fully dead' and can no longer be revived by teammates. For example, any form of dismemberment in the animation = death because the body is no longer in playing condition) _2:_ How long does the full animation last? _3:_ Does the enemy get kicked/punched/shoved/thrown/launched off a ledge when positioned correctly? _4:_ Is it funny? Oh also, fun fact!: Griffon and Lawbringer (Knight in full-plate armor with the Polearm) are the same person! Griffon, or 'Holden Cross' as he used to be known was a Lawbringer in the For Honor story mode. There's a whole side-story about him going on a journey and finding comradery in a group of mercenaries with Warriors from all the different Factions, during which he learned a new fighting style (hence the new weapon) and learned the different languages of the mercenaries from his team, so when playing with him he's the only character with multi-lingual Voice lines :D

The executions where the knights hold the blade is a real technique called a half-sword. It is used to somewhat counter plate armour by striking the opponent with the guard (cross piece between the hilt and the blade) while holding the blade, typically with a gloved hand so that if the sword slips during the strike, they don't cut their hand. Also, knights actually didn't weight all that much in their chain mail and plate armour which is comparable to a soldier with standard equipment and a fully equipped fire fighter The knights generally speaking have a mixture of brutal and graceful executions. The Vikings are just brutal with a weird fascination with heads, the samurai have clean and graceful executions while the Wu Lin are straight up disrespecting their opponents. I look forward to your reactions for Shugoki (fat guy with giant club), Orochi (tiny guy with small sword), Shaman (insane woman with a fascination for stabbing) and Valkyrie (spear and shield lady)
Technically, half swording is when you hold it similar to a spear, so you can make the end of the blade more rigid, and make it better for piercing. The quillon and pommel strikes, where you wield the sword the way you describe, is called a Mordhau (inspiration for the game of the same name), or Murder Strike/Stroke.
That's not half-swording, that's mordhau. Half swording is when you grab the blade so you can make more precise stabs and strikes. Mordhau is when you flip the sword and use it as a blunt weapon with the pommel and cross guard acting as a mace/hammer.
21:17 Actually that's a Trident. In the middle ages, it was used for fishing. But in Rome, the Gladiators of the Retiarius Class would be given a trident and a fishing net. There were a few Gladiator Classes and the one in FH is technically a Retiarus but too heavily armored and instead of a net they went with a buckler shield instead. When in reality, the Retiarus would only wear an Manica(Arm Guard) and a Galerus(Shoulder Guard). They're clothing only consisted of Loincloth held in place by a wide belt. For Honor's version is too heavily armored but he looks good. Also the other one with the short sword was a roman Centurion. A military commander
The reason why the knight was using every part of the sword was because they were trained in the sword art known as “Half-Swording” its a art that would have a knight grab the blade and use the guard and pummel to damage heavily armored opponents because you can’t cut through high carbon steel armor
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames In half-swording you actually would typically have one hand on the blade and the other on the handle (if you're right-handed like I am, for example, you'd grab the blade with your left hand and keep your right hand on the handle). It's only certain specific techniques WITHIN half-swording that would have you put both hands on the blade, and one of the most famous of those techniques is one you see in several of Warden's executions. It's the one where he grabs the blade in both hands and slams the crossguard (the part between the blade and handle) into his opponent. This is a specific anti-armor technique in half-swording known as the Mordhau, or "Murder-Stroke".
These executions are so nice. They seem like Mortal Kombat XI fatalities. Wow, I love your reactions. Thank you very much for this video. I love you so much.
When he said black prior probably goes ‘aaaahhhhh’ and then Warmonger came up and he said ‘she definitely does the tongue thing’ those two lines really made me laugh. 😂❤️
fun fact: the "mordhau" technique/half-swording/murder stroke was a medieval thing which involved grabbing the blade of a sword to either swing it backwards like a giant hammer or keep one hand on the handle to stab accurately (I'd suggesting looking it up since it's very interesting) it's used creatively in these executions
Fun note, the little shield that gladiator was using is a buckler, it's round dome (bos) it's ideal for deflecting strikes out of threating spaces and it's pretty well lined up for punching so him staying in light armor allows him to dance around his opponent and striking back from a safer range with the trident
I’m not sure I saw anyone mention it, but with the executions where the characters get shrunk, each one coincides with a faction and the material they are made of also relate to said faction. The “booger statue” as you called it at 25:11 is supposed to be made of jade, a stone used in a lot of ancient Chinese architecture and jewelry. The mini statue is modeled after one of the Chinese faction’s heroes named Tiandi
@@altair658 Raider is the name your looking for, for the 2 handed axe or for an axe in each hand that’s brazerker, my spelling is prolly wrong but mmm head hunter man I can’t wait to see it, that’s one of raiders executions
Something to note: the speed of these executions is important. In 4v4 and 2v2 games, the slower and more drawn-out the execution is, the more health you get back as the winner. However...you can be interrupted by another player. A good player will fill their 4 execution hotkeys with 2 short and 2 long executions based on the situation. Sometimes it's best to go with the quick decapitation if it means you guarantee the kill. You can only execute players if you kill them with a heavy attack. If you don't execute them, an ally can revive them and bring them back into the fight. Executions also add a few seconds onto the re-spawn timer, so a good player in 4v4 Domination will do that to delay the enemy team from having a full roster for as long as possible. The difference between taking 10 seconds to re-spawn and 18 seconds can really win the game.
At 1:51 they throw the pommel of the sword at the guy. It's a strange historical in-joke from a really old Chivalric code book that says to "end them rightly" by throwing your sword pommel at your opponent. Weird tactic.

There are also a lot more executions like the knighting and the arrow volley that are shared across all characters that weren’t shown. This makes me want to get back into the game. I bought it wanting to play multiplayer but my internet wasn’t able to handle online matches so I stuck with the campaign and I will say it’s fun but I feel I’d get more enjoyment out of multiplayer. Now is a good time as well since my internet provider is better now. Glad to see you two enjoyed this, very brutal stuff!!
Translations of the executions: Warden: „Miserum“ = means something like „weak“ Conqueror: 1. „te occidam“ = „i will crush you“ 2. „effugisse debes“ = „you should have fleed“ Peace keeper: 1. „tu morīturus“ = „you are dead/you are going to die“ 2. „peri“ = „die“ 3. „saltem te tentavisti“ = „at least you tried“ Lawbringer: 1. „non effugere potes“ = „you can‘t flee/ there is no escape“ 2. „tu bene te ipse defendisti“ = „you defended yourself well“ Centurion: 1.„Pugnae non perfecta est“ = „the fight isn’t perfect“ 2. „Quod non rursum occidas“ = „you are not going to kill sombody else“ 3.“Infrimus“ = „weak“ 4.“movete“ = „move!“ Gladiator: 1. „Vade retro“ = „Go away“ 2. „Fīo“ (comes from „fieri“ infinitive form) = „I am made“ 3. „Audaces fortuna iuvat“ = ? (I don’t know this one) Black prior: „Ad profundis“ = means something like „to death“
My favourite execution is by far the Warden’s Moment of Silence An execution used by Wardens to honour those they respect If you get executed by a Warden using Moment of Silence, you have earned their respect, and they pray not only for your well-being, but also for you to return stronger than before, to show them a challenge once more, and to hopefully defeat them and prove your skill Moment of Silence is at 2:26
The weapon that the Centurion was using is known as a Spatha and was used extensively by the Roman Legions. The Gladius was usually more rounded to the point and was carried by several different individuals but was most commonly found in use by the Pretorian and we're smaller for the purpose of fighting in tight corridors
When you were reacting to all the foot hits on the Gladiator’s executions (trident man with tiny shield) stabbing you in the foot is his main combo in normal fights.
This game isn't just a one on one fighting game, it also has a MUCH more popular 4 vs 4 mode, where you execute the player inorder to get more health and to keep the player from getting revived. The executions have to be fast to keep up with the pace of the game, because you have to go from one fight to another right away, and having his friend interrupt while you're taking your time killing him is a real threat.
True, but some heroes have perks where the longer the execution goes on for, the more health they regenerate Never really use them though For your main hero, what executions did you use? For me it was Warden, I had Spinning Decapitation for quick and efficient kills, Taking Out The Trash for those little pricks who deserved it, Moment of Silence for worthy opponents and Alarius’ Wrath for when someone seriously pissed me off
Nice reaction vid gladiator personally is my favorite character and has some brutal executions Btw the one with the one sword and his fist was centurion the one with the trident or pitchfork was gladiator
The guy who had the tiny shield is called gladiator and the tiny shield is actually called a buckler and was mainly used for offense such as punching 😁 great video btw!
Definately Not Definitiv on Lawbringer's execution: "Wow, in his butt!?" Me after years of playing For Honor: "hmm, imagine the Peacekeeper first ripping the Warden's stomach and emptied it, then chopping off his head and kicking it. Wouldn't that be cool!?"
Fun fact the shield that the trident guy uses (aka the gladiator) is a buckler a shield made for parrying and it can be used for offensive tactics as well as he smashes their heads and bodies
The gladiator, the one with the trident, uses a buckler, the tiny shield. The shield itself is less used for blocking and more used for parrying and deflecting attacks more then catching blows and no use against arrows.
31:37 quick side note, swords actually aren't that heavy or that thick. Its Hollywood and video games that have made people think they are. For example the big 2h sword used by the last knight would only be about 2-4kg(4.4-8.8lbs in american), which is actually more then handballed in one hand funnily enough. Another side note is that rapiers where also not that light and where equal in weight to what most people would consider to be a 1h sword, both bc again swords are actually quite thin, and also because they move a lot of the mass to complex style hilt from the blade.
Name of each character in order and fun fact about each of them: Warden - One of my favorites. He's constantly pushing people with his shoulder. Conqueror - he's constantly bashing people with his shield. Peacekeeper - One of my favorites. She's constantly stabbing people and making them bleed. Lawbringer - One of my favorites. He's constantly pushing people towards walls with the tip of the polearm. Centurion - He's constantly punching people in the face. Gladiator - He's constantly stabbing toes (you got that one Right) Vortiger / Black Prior - One of my favorites. He's constantly bashing people with his shield. Warmonger - She's constantly scratching people with her nails. Gryphon - He's constantly kicking people in the chest. Also, Vortiger, Warmonger and Gryphon have the least executions because they were the most recent knight heroes (in that order). Plus the devs haven't released character-unique executions in a long time.
I have never heard such a distinct and appropriate way of describing how the Gladiator fights in my life. "Just going to stab you in the foot so you can't move."
Peacekeeper, the vicious one you guys called her, is known to be one of the hardest characters to get an execution on, but to make up for that she has really good ones as you saw
I really recommend watching The Majorn's videos, he and his friends translates the languages, he also has interviews with a few voice actors of the characters!
The reason why the gender and armour of the black prior changed was because there's armour customization in this game. You can also switch genders, change skin color, and armour colors
The characters (in order) are Warden Conquerer Peacekeeper Lawbringer Centurion Gladiator Black Prior Warmonger Gryphon You guys should react to Viking executions next! Their's are much more brutal and crazy.
Fun fact, most one handed swords actually only weigh 1.5 to 3 pounds, highlanders sword, which is modeled after a Scottish claymore was only about 5 to 7 pounds. The weapons in for honor for the most part are exaggerated in proportion and no blacksmith would ever forge blades that large and thick.
The gladiator character was actually using a trident (Of course its hard to tell between a pitchfork) and the little shield is called a buckler, believe it or not actually was used in the Gladiator pits usually best for 1vs1 combat.
@@mozambiquehere5903 Oh absolutely, I've spent so long gathering so many different things just for fashion in the game. It's pretty much the only reason I loved playing the game so much.
The flail is one tough weapon to master. You have to wear armor to use the thing because of the heavy ball and how unpredictable the path can be. The small lady is based on the warriors of the assassin order who fought the knights Templar during the the holy land sieges aka the crusades. The Templar order never found what they were looking for but the assassins fought them like crazy. The assassin order was known for fast strikes that looked like a whirlwind of steel blades taking as few hits to quickly kill someone. They wore lighter armor to lighten the load but still protected well usually made of leather topped with chainmail or steel plates which gave good protection from the knights heavy weapons.
Fun fact: when the polearm knight (the lawbringer) says “Tu Bene Te Ipse Defendisti” in Latin, which roughly translates to “You defended yourself well”.
The tiny shield is either a targe or a buckler. With training it can be decently effective in duel situations. The small size is also convenient for carrying it as well as being able to quickly grab it in a surprise fight. You would probably never see one on a medieval battlefield though. Instead it would be the classic round viking shield or the knights kite shield.
I don't know if i would feel safe around Bethany when she likes executions so much. monkaS (It's a Twitch emote, you can google it if you don't understand. :D)
The Gladiator is based on... well... gladiators. Which means they are more about showing than protecting themselves. As for his shield, or buckler, it is mostly used for deflecting blows from their opponent rather then protecting him from projectiles. And yes, it was also used for punching.
Fun fact when the grab the blade and swing the hilt into them its called "half swording" its a technique for swords to get through plate armor using the blunt force of a hilt like a mace. It was an actual historical technique from what I hear.
Half swording is holding the blade with your off hand whilst gripping the handle with your main hand to jab between armored plates or control the tip of the blade. Swinging the weapon inverse to bludgeon armour with the pommel and cross guard is called a mordhau grip or murder grip
Nice reaction as usual you two, hope your days are going well. Someone probably told you by now but the first roman with the brush helmet was a centurion, and the gladiator was the one with the trident. Keep having fun, and keep it real.
Wardens execution style is mostly based on half-swording, the art of holding a longsword by the blade for more control. Also, that thing Warmonger threw was the pommel of her sword, it was actually pretty genius back in the day as a distraction during a fight
There were three main types of soldiers during the Middle Ages: foot soldiers, archers, and knights. The knights were heavily armored soldiers who rode on horseback. Only the wealthiest nobles could afford to be a knight. They needed very expensive armor, weapons, and a powerful war horse.
Bit of a correction, there were far more to the cavalry scene than heavy cavalry aka Knights, like mounted bowmen and light cavalry used for picking off isolated units and flanking
If you’re wondering why the characters later in the videos have less executions it’s because they are newer. When a character comes out they only have four executions but will often get more later down the line. The newer characters haven’t had the time to build up a large collection of executions yet.
It was fun watching you guys react to for honor stuff again Having played the game for couple years made me forget how these things seems brutal to a normal audience
The executions where they preform magic and turn them into statues is all based on one of the factions. The reason why one of the statues is green is because its based off the Wu Lin faction (the chinese) and the statue is made of Jade. As for the executions where they call upon flying objects, they are based on each faction too. The catapult falling on the guy are for knights, the arrows for samurai, and the pikes for vikings. The instruments is just whatever. And the reason why some characters have less executions than others is because they are DLC characters that were released many months or years after the original characters.

Executions are a big part of play in For Honor. They give back Health to the player, and are bad for enemy morale xD . People will pick their Executions roughly based on these factors;
_1:_ How fast does it kill? (There's different timings in the animations for each Execution at which point the enemy is considered to be 'fully dead' and can no longer be revived by teammates. For example, any form of dismemberment in the animation = death because the body is no longer in playing condition)
_2:_ How long does the full animation last?
Love the breakdowns of the execution and the different factors that go into them. Number 4 is our favorite 😜😁🥳

You technically just said oh my god god god
@@beanonacross is that a problem for you Noah?
The executions where the knights hold the blade is a real technique called a half-sword. It is used to somewhat counter plate armour by striking the opponent with the guard (cross piece between the hilt and the blade) while holding the blade, typically with a gloved hand so that if the sword slips during the strike, they don't cut their hand. Also, knights actually didn't weight all that much in their chain mail and plate armour which is comparable to a soldier with standard equipment and a fully equipped fire fighter
The knights generally speaking have a mixture of brutal and graceful executions.
Yeah really looking forward to Vikings which will be our next faction 😁
Technically, half swording is when you hold it similar to a spear, so you can make the end of the blade more rigid, and make it better for piercing. The quillon and pommel strikes, where you wield the sword the way you describe, is called a Mordhau (inspiration for the game of the same name), or Murder Strike/Stroke.
Skallagrim have done a video on half-sworded and he made a point of doing it without gloves and hitting a dummy full force and did not get cut
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
th-cam.com/video/s6KkQStwUqY/w-d-xo.html
That's not half-swording, that's mordhau. Half swording is when you grab the blade so you can make more precise stabs and strikes. Mordhau is when you flip the sword and use it as a blunt weapon with the pommel and cross guard acting as a mace/hammer.
I wish the guy who uploaded the video didn't add all the executions that every character has.

Actually that's a Trident.
Thanks for the info 😃
The reason why the knight was using every part of the sword was because they were trained in the sword art known as “Half-Swording” its a art that would have a knight grab the blade and use the guard and pummel to damage heavily armored opponents because you can’t cut through high carbon steel armor
Nice! Thanks for explaining that 😃 very cool 🤩

Haha always love hearing which parts people like from the reactions 🤗🥰🥳🥳 So glad you enjoyed it 😊
fun fact: the "mordhau" technique/half-swording/murder stroke was a medieval thing which involved grabbing the blade of a sword to either swing it backwards like a giant hammer or keep one hand on the handle to stab accurately (I'd suggesting looking it up since it's very interesting)
it's used creatively in these executions
Nice that they have some authentic moves in here 😀
Fun note, the little shield that gladiator was using is a buckler, it's round dome (bos) it's ideal for deflecting strikes out of threating spaces and it's pretty well lined up for punching so him staying in light armor allows him to dance around his opponent and striking back from a safer range with the trident
😎🤟
I’m not sure I saw anyone mention it, but with the executions where the characters get shrunk, each one coincides with a faction and the material they are made of also relate to said faction. The “booger statue” as you called it at 25:11 is supposed to be made of jade, a stone used in a lot of ancient Chinese architecture and jewelry. The mini statue is modeled after one of the Chinese faction’s heroes named Tiandi
Thanks for the info on the booger statues 😃
fun fact: a good amount of these exception move sets are actually accurate, such as using the hilt or pommel of the sword to cause severe injury.

Oh damn. Did not know that. Thanks for explaining some of the gameplay to us 😊
At 1:51 they throw the pommel of the sword at the guy. It's a strange historical in-joke from a really old Chivalric code book that says to "end them rightly" by throwing your sword pommel at your opponent. Weird tactic.
Try to find the event specific executions as well! There’s a lot of them, for example they have an Assassins Creed execution and a Thor execution.
There are also a lot more executions like the knighting and the arrow volley that are shared across all characters that weren’t shown. Maybe they’ll be in the videos for the other factions specific characters.
Side note - an event execution are timed exclusive executions available to purchase during in game events like the Assassin’s Creed crossover they may be hard to find due to them only being available for around 2 weeks and then never again. (they were available for all characters for any faction)

4 v 4 sounds super fun 😃
True, but some heroes have perks where the longer the execution goes on for, the more health they regenerate
Never really use them though
For your main hero, what executions did you use?
For me it was Warden, I had Spinning Decapitation for quick and efficient kills, Taking Out The Trash for those little pricks who deserved it, Moment of Silence for worthy opponents and Alarius’ Wrath for when someone seriously pissed me off
The killings by musical instrument were hilarious, the horn in particular, it seemed like a Bugs Bunny gag

Interesting. Thanks for sharing all this knowledge with us 😃

The tiny shield is either a targe or a buckler. With training it can be decently effective in duel situations. The small size is also convenient for carrying it as well as being able to quickly grab it in a surprise fight. You would probably never see one on a medieval battlefield though. The Gladiator is based on... well... gladiators. Which means they are more about showing than protecting themselves. As for his shield, or buckler, it is mostly used for deflecting blows from their opponent rather then protecting him from projectiles. And yes, it was also used for punching.

Man I’m excited to see you guys cover the other factions!
Vikings this Friday 😁
Fun fact when the grab the blade and swing the hilt into them its called "half swording" its a technique for swords to get through plate armor using the blunt force of a hilt like a mace. It was an actual historical technique from what I hear.
Half swording is holding the blade with your off hand whilst gripping the handle with your main hand to jab between armored plates or control the tip of the blade. Swinging the weapon inverse to bludgeon armour with the pommel and cross guard is called a mordhau grip or murder grip
😎🤟
Nice reaction as usual you two, hope your days are going well.
Someone probably told you by now but the first roman with the brush helmet was a centurion, and the gladiator was the one with the trident. Keep having fun, and keep it real.
Thanks! 😃🤗
1:49 this a hundreds years old meme, that taught knights to throw your pommel at the enemy to end them rightly
😎🤟
Haha, i was looking for this comment. End them rightly😂
Wardens execution style is mostly based on half-swording, the art of holding a longsword by the blade for more control. Also, that thing Warmonger threw was the pommel of her sword, it was actually pretty genius back in the day as a distraction during a fight
Definitely can see that distraction working 😂
😎👍😊
The guy you said was a gladiators was actually a ROMAN CENTURIAN, the guy after him with the trident and tiny shield was the GLADIATOR

Thanks for explaining that for us 😃
