Battle of St. Lo, operation cobra, operation totalize, operation luttich (German counterattack), battle of Rots, battle of verrières ridge, and battle of villers bocage.
Battle of Authie. In Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts you can fight for Caen from the british perspective and i always wondered how realistic the depiction has been. Suggestion for a series: for each mission of this game do a 5-10min video to cover the background. Keep up the good work!
I wanna see Gold, everyones like saying Omaha was the only beach that had stiff resistance when in reality it wasn’t the only one. 1st Hampshire regiment Jig Green sector of Gold at Le Hamel landed without tank support due to the high tide and were pinned down by elements of the 352nd division, about 4 companies landed in the first wave of the battalion which was A,B,C, and D Companies and lost over 200 casualties along with that.
Thanks for this post, my great uncle Ernest died on sword he was 18 yrs old, shot as he left the landing craft, love to all those soldiers that gave their all for us today god bless 😢🎉
Thanks for the video. My Grandad was there that day. He was 19. Got captured at some point and ended up in a POW camp. Passed before i was born, he must have had some stories
My grandad Dennis Davis landed on sword beach on D-Day aged 24. He was such a proud man who was the backbone of the family. He had seen so much as did so many others. He passed away in 2015 aged 95 and I still miss him so much. I am forever grateful for his service and for those that fought along side him and those who lost their lives. I still have his bayonet and a German sword he stole while in battle. It has a brass eagle crest on the handle that wraps around your hand. A few pieces of history I’ll never get rid of
5:07 1st Special Glider Brigade didn't relieve the Ox and Bucks . they went straight through into the eastern area to make defensive positions and relieve a few towns. Some of that didnt happen for a few weeks
My Grandad Nicholas was in the Second Wave on Sword. He remembers the Piper and being ordered to get off the beach ASAP. I have a photo of him and his mate Nobby stopping for a photo. His friend was killed fighting the SS Panzers tye following day. They were both Royal Enginners in the Polar Bears.
My dad was there with no 4 Commandos. Lord Lovat mentioned my dad twice in his memoirs, first quoting his description of the English Channel as “Lumpy”, and second to describe his piloting of their landing craft onto Sword Beach Red Sector with the call “I’m going in!”
It's sobering to think of the armour that the British and Canadians had to face in the Normandy campaign, Tiger 1's Tiger 2's Panthers and the kitchen sink. Oh - apart from that Tiger that got totally lost and attacked the US in 'Saving Private Ryan' (who managed to hit the beach in the only landing craft manned by US Navy bods). Officers and maps eh?
THANK YOU for telling the world how D Day didn’t just have one beach. ...I kinda guessed the glider attack on (checks map) Horsa bridge would be successful :D But damn, those paratroopers. Only got 1/7 of their men, went for it anyway and succeeded.
Overlord (not Sword Beach or Gold Beach) is a 1975 black-and-white British war film written and directed by Stuart Cooper. Set during the Second World War, around the D-Day invasion, the film is about a young British soldier's experiences and his meditations on being part of the war machinery, including his premonitions of death.
I love your video but Yk what’s funny I’ve read this on Wikipedia and you copied word for word off of it I’m not trying to sound rude but you couldn’t explain it any other way
As you can see in the description Wikipedia has been linked as a source for the video, so that's not even a secret. Nor am I the first one to use Wikipedia articles.
@@ww2-epicbattles oh I didn’t see that part sorry I really still liked your video because it’s hard to picture what happens when you read it off a website
Brits and Canadians were fighting all the Elite heavy SS Panzer divisions around Caen and beyond. 8 elite Panzer Divisions, 3 Heavy Tank Battalions, and 7 Infantry Divisions at Caen alone. USA were fighting mostly stomach divisions.
The division's advance to the areas near the British-Canadian landing beaches of Sword and Juno proceeded slowly due to Allied air attacks. The first units of the 12th SS reached their assembly area near Evrecy at 22:00 hours on 6 June but the Panther battalion ran out of fuel east of the Orne River.[11] According to Marc Milner, "[t]his was just the first example of sloppy staff work and command and control that characterized 12th SS Division's experience in the beachhead battles".[12] Marc Milner is a Canadian military and naval historian, author of several books including one novel. He is Director of the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society at the University of New Brunswick.

It's been ages since I last played COH. But good idea.

Certainly underrated coverage.
Thank you my Emperor!
Great video! For all the military map related content on YT, Overlord is curiously undercovered
I absolutely loved your coverage of Juno Beach. This one is great too!
Smashing video! The details and benefits of an overview coverage are incredibly well done

Under rated history channel. I’m watching all these videos!

My dad was there at the age of 19, with the 13th/18th Hussars. Only in recent years have I realised what he went through.
Awesome video, thank you. It'll help me during my visit in Normandy this year. :)
It always gladdens me when my videos help people.
British dead on 6th June at Sword now totalled as 1,400 based on grave counts. Previously had been underestimated as no official records kept.

Pretty nice job!
Sounds like the British dealt the worst to the Germans on D-Day at Sword Beach.
Looks like airborne drops in WW ll were a failure on both sides
Is this, the simple history voice actor???

Oddly undercooked. This is certainly not definitive
