It REALLY depends. First pick for your highest elo if they have a really strong pick that can't be hard countered (a good jungler for example), trade picks until your highest elo can either counter pick or pick their main into a non-counter (if they first pick heimerdinger and then opponent hits irelia, the game is over). Those are the two that I tend to use, im sure there are other methods, but I have found those to work.
